Makes me cry!

To me, it wasn’t Christmas until this was played over and over again. I don’t know what happened to the record we had but I sure do miss hearing this song no matter what time of year it is. I think my older brother has it hidden at his house. He was the one who got me hooked on it.

Most people do not know that this song actually is about an event that happen during a cease fire during world war 2. The soldiers from both sides put aside their differences for one day and celebrated Christmas together.

Global Warming Ya know, it does have a nice ring to it doesn’t it? Now that I am done with all of those extreme things I used to do like bobsledding and speed skating and of course skiing in the Alps, a nice warm globe sounds like a place where I want to live. Taking midnight skinny-dips or making love in the warm rain underneath a picturesque waterfall in some secluded cove does not sound terrible! Even the word “warm” by itself, is satisfying. A warm cup of cocoa, sitting in a warm hot tub or sitting around a warm campfire conjures up comforting scenarios that inspire lovely images. Apparently those who fall on one side or the other of a particular political preference let their affiliation determine whether or not they believe in global warming. Like the climate has something to do with politics. As I understand it, and correct me if I am wrong but if you are a conservative you might tend to believe that “climate change” is a hoax and if you are one of those “bleeding heart” liberals, well surely global warming real. I find it interesting that people, or should I say sheeple, feel as if they need the support of a political party to determine that gun control, racism, abortion and so many other issues are political issues and not social issues. Let’s forget the fact that it was 50 degrees in Northern Michigan on December 26 and it has been raining for the last three days. Let’s forget the fact that in 2019 there were 138 reported mass shootings by single perpetrators worldwide and 41 of those were committed in the United States. We can forget about the unrest between Israelis and Palestinians, Russians and Ukrainians, North Korea and EVERYBODY ELSE. How could any of this have anything to do with god or politics? When I was a child there was a song that used to “warm” my heart by the Royal Guardsmen called Snoopy’s Christmas. As a child, I could not figure out why we as a human race, had to shoot people from the land, sea and air. The song gave me hope, as songs often do. In this one, Snoopy and the Red Barron called a truce in the name of Christmas, “bringing peace to all the world and good will to man”. I actually had the 45rpm record. Of course it was only a song and when I came out of my bedroom, reality punched me square in the nose with Walter Cronkite doing the Vietnam body-count on the evening news. Thanks Wally! We know that wars are fought over gods and politics. Neither god nor politics has ever done anything to bring peace. But somehow we think that by fighting these wars it will bring peace. It doesn’t! We know that pollution is destroying the ozone layer that protects us from the radiation of the sun which causes global warming. But countries around the world are hell bent on manufacturing products that compound the pollution problem. Cow farts, really? Do they really want us to believe that cow farts is the problem? “It’s the damn meat eaters” say the vegan and vegetarians and P.E.T.A. morons. These are the same people who take their reusable sacks to the grocery store thinking that they are going to save the environment. Yeah, it’s my fault for eating meat. Basically what I am trying to say is global warming is a byproduct of our global stupidity which is making me more comfortable. All I can say is thank you for making my winters shorter and warmer. As they say, “kill em all and let god sort em out”! Who needs world peace anyway?

For those wondering, the song references an actual historical event that happened during WWI, the Christmas Truce.

I do not understand how in 2023 Christmas this song is not played on the radio, as far as I am concerned this is the best Christmas song ever, way better than Mariah Carey 's All I Want For Christmas Is You.
