- Mics and audio interfaces have gotten so good these days, does it even make sense to shell out the extra amount and get high-end expensive gear anymore? Well, we are here to help provide a little more clarity to that question.
We have chosen 3 microphone and audio interface combos for every budget and compared them so you can take a call for yourself (RUclips compression is NOT going to make this test super transparent - so if you guys want the WAV files COMMENT below!)
Level 1 - Samson c01 + Vault ai22
Level 2 - Warm Audio WA-47jr + Audient iD4 MK II
Level 3 - Neumann TLM 49 + AMS Neve 1073LB + UAD Apollo x8p

What was your favourite combo?
Absolutely LOVE this video!! So clear! So informative! So engaging!!
great content, love it! thanks for the details. 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Great Job
Amazing video bro!!!!!
The performance quality is everything and hopefully there’s quality equipment to capture it. B is excellent & C is quite good too.
I found the cheapest combo to sound best for Tshering's voice lol, but the same sounded terribly boomy for Akshita's.
A>C>B for Tshering
C>B>A for Akshita
This is a very good presentation, thank you. I find the actual difference amazingly small. A may be a little tinnier, C a little fuller. But it's nowhere near proportional to the price differences. I'd have expected the Neumann combo to sound WAY more upfront or something, but I suspect it would be hard to even discern a mic switch midstream without the visual alert. Maybe this is a psychological experiment and we are listening to the same chain three times? 😉Seriously, the biggest giveaway seems to be the noise floor whereas it is very similar in the two more expensive chains.
So glad you liked it! It's amazing how good mid tier gear sounds these days, we did use 3 completely different chains, thats also why we left the performance the same, to remove that variable in the sound test.
Btw, which mic is B and C?
@@akg.69 You can check the description right at the bottom :)
Cheap set up got a lot more noisy than the other two. Great video!
Agreed! Glad you liked the video!!
I would die for the Warm Audio 47jr
Whatta mic
Makes more sense to just save up and pay for it.
A C B, A is the Sampson no question, B is the 49 maybe, C is the Fet maybe, C sounded the best to my ears, it could go either way but since I am not a big fan of rhe 49, I am hoping the Fet won, then again the NEVE may have saved the 49 well? which is which? how far off? don't tell me C is the Sampson
Yup you definitely got the Samson right! B is the neve/49 combo and C is the fet/audient one, good job!
I can’t choose between B or C 😅 I think C sounded best. Mic A is close to my bedroom recording on my MXL770. Do you recommend using the MXL770 for a bedroom studio set up? Or which one would you recommend? Just curious 😅
The MXL 770 is a perfectly good choice!
I like your video
❤❤❤❤❤
I like B and C. A not so much, it kinda sounds hollow to me.
Yup A is the samson/vault combo
@@CompassBoxStudio I guess the end result means middle of the road is good. Stay away from cheap stuff, but no need to buy top of the line. Good to know.
@@leebuck8532 Isn't that always the case. Point of diminishing returns. From a certain price point, you are doing it for the ego or to impress clients.
I wanna say mic A was the 49
You can check the description for the pairings!
