    Keep 102 and invest in 1073 style preamp like heritage audio or warm audio 73eq. That would be better than 1.700$ that TLM49 cost.

      I have tlm 102 and I use it in a chaotic eyeball it’s like a foam ball because my room is untreated I record in the corner of my living room and recommendations?

    • @adproject8
      @adproject8 13 дней назад

      @@jonathanm5202 It depends… are you using it to sing or for voice-over? If you’re going to read a text or record voice for an ad, that’s enough, especially if you tweak the EQ afterward. But if you’re singing and recording instruments, the mic needs space; don’t put it in a cave or box. The bigger the room, the better, and the further away from the walls the mic is, the better too. I tried everything… absorption panels stuck to cardboard, curtains bought on Amazon. In the end, the cheapest and most ‘practical’ solution is to invest in a large rug that covers most of the floor and gradually buy acoustic panels for your room. I’ve bought second-hand and ended up spending very little. The room is everything for a microphone, and in the end, going cheap often ends up costing more. Look at videos of famous recording studios, and you’ll see they have rugs and 4-6 well-placed panels; you don’t need more. All your sound problems will be solved.

      @@PhearNoneGearGadgets Mojave MA-300 is also a solid mic in the same price range - if you don't mind the power supply and warming up - Neumann have taken care of all that with the TLM49 - and the 49 has a better capsule, not Chinese - for just vocals the Roswell Colares is another good choice, big heavy mic - but that's a good sign with gear, shows there's good bones in there ;-)

    Sweet! Just the test I was looking for my friend. I also have the TLM-102, and to me it’s very clear-sounding, but the frequency bump around 10k hz pretty much drives me crazy a lot of the times. Ah, man that sizzling at the top, and not much happening in the mid range…Once you have heard it, it can’t be ehm, unheard.
    To me your comparison showed in a very good way the differences between these two mics, and I felt that the TLM-49 had way more presence in the mid range. To my ears the difference between these two guys was more than subtle.

    I bought the Focusrite ISA One Mic Pre. It was made by Rupert Neve. It's a toss up as to a pre or good mic. . I think I would get the WA 67. You got good clean power with your apogee. A lot of times I don't use my outboard pre but use the 1073 plug in From UAD in my unison slot with my Apollo. I've gotten some of my best vocal sounds with it. Adding a good Tube condenser was game changing for me. I use a Mojave MA-300 Large Condenser Tube Mic. Twice as much as the WA67 but I bet it's no better. I buying that WA-67. Everywhere else wants 900$ but Pro Audio Source is able to give you the whole package brand new for less than 650$.

    Tlm 102 has more clarity but needs more bass in post, 49 is more rounded and has more character for hip hop voices. I worked with both in a studio having also some analog outboard. For me tlm 102 is really difficult to beat price to performance , and i would suggest to keep both couse have different applciations, 102 has more the character of a 87 and also works perfect on instruments. 49 is a smore specific sound that you can use when you need more mids and bass. For hip hop voices my suggestion is to use them with an isa if you want warmish/neutral tone with definition, or wa tb 12/ 73 if u want to saturate beacuse the output transformers can round tha transients and hairiness the tlms has.

      Thank you for the feedback and suggestions! I tried the 102 with the newton channel strip and it work really well with the silk setting. I took the 49 back, and want to try the TLM 103, U87 or TLM 67. Which is best in your opinion for hip-hop vocals?

    • @dragonemortale9056
      @dragonemortale9056 5 месяцев назад

      @@PhearNoneGearGadgets U87 even if is the AI version is great for that transformer sound , but is really pricier and sometimes it has to much nasal mids. So if you want a microphone that can need less eq my suggestions are tlm 67 that is similar but more opened, or tlm 103 that is really in the face sounding with also a similar low end to the 49, but on some voices or rooms makes disasters on the esses. My sleeper is the tlm 193 that has a great sibilance controll like the 49 but is flatter and has a uniform response on pe Polar pattern (has the capsule of the u 89) works on everything in the right hands!

    Hey buddy if you like the 67 The WA 67 From Warm Audio is one of the best clones period . out of all the styles of clones. Watch the tutorial from Masterclass comparing it to his Neumann 67 He knows his shit. He did a really deep test comparing them and he was blown away. He's not sponsored by anyone. All the other models of Warm Audio clones like the Wa 251 and the WA 47 . He didn't like but he said and I agree they got it right with the 67. They use all killer components like Lundahl transformers, and the K67 style vintage capsule like the original. You can get it with everything even a killer Gothem 7 pin cable for 639.00$ on Pro Audio Source online gear store. It's a no brainer. Watch the tutorial from Masterclass. I think he spells Masterclass a little different he's from Belgium . He's a total pro engineer does huge projects. You'll be glad you did. I know a 67 would sound better than both of those. Check it out. Good luck. That is if you didn't buy anything yet I just saw this is 10 months old.
