This is exactly what I needed thanks Chris! Starting to love this stuff for tuna diving. The only thing I don’t like is it seems hard to hold onto if you’re really trying to keep a fish off of the bottom. Do you tie the same knot on the other end for the reel, or break away?
Yea dyneema is slippery and hard to lift big fish on.
The knot on the other end (loop for reel line or breakaway etc) is the same.

Been using this knot a few years and works like a charm. Thanks for the tip of wetting the line and pulling it forward when burning the end. Very useful tip. Like the 'machete' you are sing to cut the the line🤣🤣

Good vid and good knot, I tried it and like it. There’s even commercial guys who use bowlines though. Idk maybe I’m not good with knots it’s too hard to remember. Out on a boat I’m all about a bowline. If I’m at home and comfy I may use this knot. Either way it’s a good choice.
Hey Kay the bowline is not as strong. But easy to do in the water.

Chris, why not use a simple bowline knot? In the days before mono that was how we tied shooting lines. I personally never had a failure that I know of.
Hey Luiz, bowline is good, easy and you can untie it. Which makes it very handy. But the dyneema knot is stronger and the bowline slips when using dyneema. Its probably fine for 90% of spearing tho.
Isn’t the bowline bulkier? May send shaft down more. I was using the bowline and found this vid a while back and switched but have not tried shooting with the knot yet

The only thing missing is the other end for those of us who don’t use a reel (on the gun), how it attaches to the elastic shock absorber/pretension.

Do you prefer knots to crimps with dyneema? Crimps are slimmer but I'm thinking they could nick the bridle on some shots and cause wear on bridle and/or bridle rails?

Hey GH I use a 2/0 power swivel. Anything strong will do.
I usually tie my mono line in the hole of shark fin tip , is it right to do that ?
Also what about if I tie dyneema line in the hole of shark fin tip ? I’m using ero shafts
There should be no problem tieing the dyneema to the shark fin hole 👍

Dyneema for some reason snags less on rollers than 1.5 & 2mm mono fishing line. Just remember to always keep your dyneema line tight.

Std 1.8mm-2mm 'spearfishing' dyneema. The one with the outer sheath and inner core.
Would crimping the dyneema be as effective? Of course we lose the ease of just being able to tie, but I was curious

with 1.9m dyneema the knot gets quite big - should it not sit in front of the wishbone dyneema / notch on load, making the knot less likely to catch on the wishbone dyneema when the spear leaves the nozzle?
Allstar no its best to have the knot behind the bridle. when you shoot the water catches the knot and pulls it behind the shaft. If it is infron it gets trapped by the bridle.
Just got a reel and I’m trying to find the right line to rig it with. Can I do dyneema for my shooting line and reel too?
Yes I use std spearfishing dyneema for both reel and shooting line.

What happend to spliced hollow core dynema shooting line? Did you found this dynema to be better and stronger over the years?….i been using spliced hollow core dynema since i saw your video a few years ago. Never had it break no matter how old or frayed it is
There is not doubt that hollowcore dyneema is the strongest and most durable. The problem is finding perfectly cylindrical cord. Most hollow core 8 & 12 strand flatten out and are not round. This means that on a 2mm line the hollow core will be 1mm x 3mm
This 3mm causes the line to have drag and slow the shaft down.
When I find the right line.... I will get rich 😂
nice Chris , but the quality from yr white 2mm line , kwown as a RA 2 mm or 1,8 mm dyneema , could be a lot better quality dyneema line ! rgds

100% absolutely. The breaking strain with a std knot is around 100kg.... that pressure will drown you before breaking ha ha..

If you use Dyneema for your reel can you not connect this directly to your spear?
Yes you can, but I prefer not to as you land up not having a quick release knot. You also land up cutting the line shortening the reel line, prefer just to have seperate shooting line.
