      Thanks Paul. In today's market, it seems like more and more boats are going outboard powered. It's amazing to me that Huckins had this vision and technology back in the 80s!

    Thank You Garnock,
    Your videos are always spot on ! I love the simplicity and the price point. This allows someone like myself to actually consider a 50 foot boat when I was eyeing up the Mainship 39.
    I’m curious if the dinghy comes with a motor ?
    Dinghy size ? Finally is the dinghy hoist working properly ? No leaks or squeaks or funny smells ?
    Thanxs !
    Robert 😊

    This would indeed be a great Great Loop boat or to cruise the Caribbean, and as a liveaboard. Lots of room for a couple. You certainly can't beat the price. Nothing fancy; just practical and functional. Thanks for the great tour.

      I loved the nautical theme throughout. Any time I'm on a boat, I want to feel like I'm on a boat or on vacation. Some of the modern yachts I've been on feels more like a high-end apartment than a boat.

    It’s very hard to imagine how the “weight & balance” of the boat’s design could allow for transitioning from 4 outboards hanging off the transom to throwing in several tons of diesels and transmissions underneath the salon. I’d be interested to see the hull’s running angle.

      That's actually a good question 🤔 The engines are physically large, that I bet there was a ton of space down there when it was outboard powered.

      There's pros and cons with each of them. If I was serious about buying, I'd check them both out truthfully. The 50 looks to be in better shape at face value, but the 58 has flybridge, bow and stern thrusters, and far better engine room access. All depends what you're looking for, but both options offer great value for money 😎

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      They have been building boats since 1928, and still building boats today. They are very well designed, strong, and fast offshore boats for both cruising and fishing. This one in my opinion is excellent value for money at only $115k. That's typically center console money these days, not 900hp diesel cruising 😎

    For her age she's in remarkable condition. I would do a few upgrades. Mostly on the heads. Some electronic upgrades. Maybe some in the master berth. Nothing major. Those Cummins look to be in great condition. Was that a fire suppression system I saw behind the ladder in the engine room? I couldn't tell for sure.

    This boat is in nice condition for it's age and seems good value. What do you think it's range would be?

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      I found a similar size Huckins that claimed 250 miles at 20 knots, and over 500 miles at 12 knots. If fuel range is important, I'd recommend hooking flow meters when doing a sea trial for the most accurate results.

    Dumping all this money into a depreciating asset like a boat is stupid and crazy. Right now interest rates for homes are at all time high and buying a house is harder than ever for most Americans. Also these boats are money pits that depreciate like crazy. After you get tired of boat life and want to go back into a house, it will be much more difficult to get back in due to increasing home prices and higher interest rates throughout the nation. I bought an old 3bed and 2bath single family house in San Jose California for 800K in 2019. Now it is worth $1.4M and interest rates are at 7%! Unless you guys are already very wealthy, it is all fun and games until reality hits.

      Boats are basically incomparable fun and relaxation for families who own and can afford them. I have had boats large (72 ft) and small (18 ft) my whole life… got the habit from my dad. I have bought and sold 9 out of 1( boats for a profit and always enjoyed the tax write off as a second home. If you are looking to compare boats with homes as pure investments , that’s like comparing cars to airplanes… no can do. My wealth was build on real property in USA and offshore. Different goals and values and to each his own. I am retired and we spend at least half the year cruising/fishing the Caribbean, Central and South America with family and friends. It is a wondrous world on the water!
