Thanks for watching and for the compliments. My wife will ask when I get home filming if I would keep this one each time. This boat is a solid yes! I'd love to one day own something like this and enjoy cruising onboard. We can but dream, right? 🤠
If I wasn't married, I would jump on this boat. Love the Burl Maple insets on the drawer panels. Yes, that couch must go, but otherwise, not a lot of touching up to make this ready to go!. Nice job on the tour.
Man this is a great boat for the money. buy it and spend a couple of hundred thousand to update some of the interior furniture, maybe brand new electronics and rail work and you got a heck of a boat.
As always, dry well done review. Thank you. This is a very classy girl that has been impeccably maintained. You don’t get better in a cruising yacht than GB and the well reasoned layout is superb for weeks or months on the water. This is one of the most well equipped yachts I have seen in years and the price point is very reasonable. Take a look at what that money can’t buy for a new or less well founded yacht. I am an old salt that has grown up and a joyed many sportys and cruisers over the past 50 years…. we’re a few years younger and my wife still alive, I would write a check quickly. Just lovely.
Thank you! Sorry for your loss, but I appreciate the kind comments. I'd love a good liveaboard like this someday. Doubt it will ever happen, but we can always dream 😉
Love where the day heads is. Right next to the breakfast bar. So after a nice six pounder you open the door and presto the smell infuses the toast and cereals. Nice. Its a sailors life for me!!!
This is a fantastic loop vessel. The arch is on hinges and can likely make the low bridges in downtown Chicago. Plus less than 5' draft means you can do all the Canadian parts. Really nice vessel. Doesn't get any better for a Loop boat.
I always like the engine room tour best. Would love to do maintenance on one. I was a maintenance tech on a short line railroad in NW Arkansas. Really miss those days. I always think it's kind of funny how small these engines are in size compared to a loco engine. Same concept just a lot smaller.
When I started out in the marine industry over 20 years ago, we branched into commercial boat sales with the likes of tugs and workboats. I remember one tug owner saying its not the number of horses, but the size of the horses that counts 😉 A 600hp outboard and a 600hp diesel tug, isn't the same 600 horses. I don't know much about trains, but I bet they run like tug boats 😉
Love all the natural wood! Right/wrong, I look at engine time and equate that to tractor trailer mileage. The only thing I can think of that uses approximately this type engine. Running at 60 MPH, sans start/stop. 4000 hours approx 240,000 miles. Well cared for they go 500,000. So I would call these at half life. Just MHO, no science involved! Very nice boat!! 8) --gtr
That's a great way of looking at it 😎 I'd recommend a good sea trial, engine inspection, for any boat. Once you buy it, get a good service and you should have a clean benchmark to go forward 😉
I’m only interested if the 1985, Golden Girls, South Florida sofa comes with that yacht. Hell of a craft Garnock. She’s exactly what I could be happy living on and exploring with. Excellent review.
I've been working on some videos to share in the next couple of weeks I think you are going to enjoy. Krogen, Fleming, Kadey Krogen, and more! Gives us both a couple extra weeks to win the lottery, right? 🤷♂️🤪
She is a beautiful boat. I was surprised to see that she sold for such a steep discount. I'm guessing the engine hours had much to do with that. However for the price sold I think the new owners will be very happy.
Thanks! I've got a few videos already made and uploaded to publish, but when I make the next video from scratch I need to see what's going on with the audio. Someone else complained about popping noises through the video but it's not there on my laptop version, only the RUclips version. I appreciate the feedback and support
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. In what areas do you think this one needs a refit 🤔 I personally don't see $200k worth of work required, but I'm open to your ideas 😉
I love all the critical comments. All are obviously from "wanna Be's" and not experienced yachtsmen. She appears to be in excellent condition other than for her exterior brightwork. Easily remedied with a fresh varnish job. Otherwise the perfect boat for extended cruising. Not enough cabins? Then move along. Believe the engine room is a mess, then move along. The machinery space is nearly spotless. Think she's over priced??? Then move along.
I worry more about structural and mechanical issues over cosmetics, and I didn't see anything obvious that I thought would be an issue in sea trial or survey. This would be a great liveaboard for enjoying Florida and the Caribbean in winter, and New York, Maine, etc, during summer 😉
I'm honestly not sure, but I see a lot of similarities in their design and features. It wouldn't surprise me if there was some sort of overlap somewhere 🤔
Consider staying away from a pilot house model boat if you are seriously going to be cruising. Great room concept with the lower helm in the living area is essential for a couple that will be running hundreds of hours in a given year
Does she have crew quarters? We like to cover long distances by running 24 hours/day but my wife doesn’t like to drive. I like to hire a captain for 2-6 months at a time. Our family takes all the guest cabins. Or is there a cabin that is large enough to divide into two?
Hey Michael, for this one, it is meant for owner operator and doesn't have crew accommodations. If you shoot me an email to Boats@GarnockReviews.com, I can see if I can help track something down 😉
Hey Gary, there's 2 larger than normal cabins instead of 3 cabins. Boat layouts are all about comprises. If there were 3 or 4 cabins, each cabin would be considerably smaller. Here's the link to the Yachtworld listing for more info.... www.yachtworld.com/yacht/2006-grand-alaskan-pilothouse-9284096/
if you ever owned a boatall the little things that you see wrong cost you major money to work on marinas aren't happy when do it yourself or start f****** sanding and painting boats it don't work that way
When my Dad had a boat, we used to take it to a sheltered bay and drop anchor and work on it. That way you could (within reason) make as much noise as you want, not have to worry about boat neighbors as you polish, paint, varnish etc. Depending what you are working on, it was sometimes easier doing it from the tender too.
Nice vessel but way overpriced, wood work needs repair , hazed glass FB, soft materials worn and generally a dirty vessel (grill on FB) that should have been cleaned for that price. A fair price considering other offerings seems to be, $650k.
This one has been getting a lot of bites recently, but it's still for sale and on Yachtworld that I'm aware of...... www.yachtworld.com/yacht/2006-grand-alaskan-pilothouse-9284096/
Doesn't have as many cabins as some boats this size, but instead makes for far more space in each cabin or living area it does have. It's all about compromise and priorities. If I only needed 1 or 2 cabins, I'd rather have this layout 😉
My wife isn't into boating but every now and again she watches my videos and sees the appeal in liveaboards, and this was one case where she agreed. Now I have my wife onboard with the idea, I just need the bank manager to agree 😆
It's actually a fairly common setup, even Flemings are somewhat similar. I personally like the day head as close to the helm as possible for passage making watches.
Y’all are wild to be looking at this boat and thinking it’s worth it. With taxes and closing costs your welllllll absolve a $1 million for this boat. Of all the ways to spend a million dollars this would be on the absolute bottom of my list
The one inch copper line is green and leaking it's all corroded in pic you showed ,don't think this boat is worth what they are asking, decor is more like 90s

Thank you, that genuinely means a lot!!

A nice boat for the money. First thing I'd do is get rid of that hideous floral sofa thing in the saloon... 😂
I’ve seen worse!
That's what I said
And the 1980s woodwork out of a polish camping trailer.
It’s a lot of boat for the money though in this overhyped market.
one man's junk is another man's treasure.
what is there more to say than wow, i could live on this boat permanently if i could afford it, btw awesome detailed video

@@GarnockReviewsPerfect for the San Juan Islands too.
Yeah boy!!! This is one gorgeous boat!! The Great Loop trip would be smooth sailing in this beauty!! Thanks for the excellent tour, Greig!! ✌️🏳️🌈✌️

@@GarnockReviews Lol. I think that's a great idea!

Great review, no fluff or filler just the facts.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 😊

I'd love to cruise the Caribbean in something like this, even has a great sports tender for it too!!
Agreed! 🙂@@GarnockReviews

may I know were the boat is located?
This one is located in Jacksonville, Florida
What kind of range?
will never own a boat but somehow that was enjoyable viewing.
Thank you 😊 I doubt I will ever get to own something like this, but love the dream to chase regardless 😉

Nicely designed Trawler❣
Nice boat for the money plenty horse power, great cut through the chase presentation 👍

Nice boat ⚓️
I love it.....
Very nice!!!!!

For $835k, it is surprising they didn’t get holes in fabric repaired or even get completely pealed varnish touched up.
Yeah... If what you can see is that shabby, think of what you cannot see...like the engine, etc
KAREN,is that you?
That's why it's not a million.
Scott we saw the engines .@scott931
She's been reduced to 729k so you can fix it up.
She is a beautiful boat. I was surprised to see that she sold for such a steep discount. I'm guessing the engine hours had much to do with that. However for the price sold I think the new owners will be very happy.
This boat hasn't sold, that was a Selene they showed... 4000 hours on a marine cat isn't anything to worry about either.
For the age and obviously owned by actual boaters; the hours aren't bad. That engine room was impeccable.

Nice boat, in need of a refit. Knock 200K off and reinvest that into a refit and it would sell quick for more?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. In what areas do you think this one needs a refit 🤔 I personally don't see $200k worth of work required, but I'm open to your ideas 😉
nice one. if you mentioned it in the video what is her range at economical cruise?
I just spoke to Mark to clarify, and a rough estimate is around 1200 miles @ 10 knots.
@@GarnockReviewsYes, my Father's Grand Banks 42' Europa had about 1,500 @ 9 knots.

A beautiful proper yacht. She would not be out of place in Tobermory. I am sure that the narrator knows what I mean?
And rename her Dignity as I sail by villages and towns 😀🏴
Love Tobermory
Usually you mention range. I noticed that you didnt mention the range on this one.
Lizzies that was funny
Are there stabalizers? For offshore n tough days. What's the range at 10kt cruise? Lovely boat and well-done tour! Thank you.
Thanks! There are stabilizers onboard, and at 10 knots, I was told it would be around 1200 miles or so.
Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
We currently own a Kadey Krogen Whaleback. Same as the one just to starboard of this Grand Alaskan. We really enjoy it but that Alaskan is tempting. 😉
I filmed a Kadey Krogen at Ft Lauderdale Boat Show last year. It's still sitting in my backlog to edit 😉
Are they build at same warf as Selenes?
I'm honestly not sure, but I see a lot of similarities in their design and features. It wouldn't surprise me if there was some sort of overlap somewhere 🤔

Consider staying away from a pilot house model boat if you are seriously going to be cruising. Great room concept with the lower helm in the living area is essential for a couple that will be running hundreds of hours in a given year
Hypothetically speaking, if you could buy any boat this weekend, what would you choose? 🤔
I would very much like to speak to the original owner, as I am a real buyer looking for 3 years for the right boat.
Just curious, what questions would you have for the original owner? I personally would have more questions for the current owner 🤔
Does she have crew quarters? We like to cover long distances by running 24 hours/day but my wife doesn’t like to drive. I like to hire a captain for 2-6 months at a time. Our family takes all the guest cabins. Or is there a cabin that is large enough to divide into two?
