Dude ikr Fr more and moar ppl should start being independent and not work with some big company to make their youtube vids because the product is an awesome person with an awesome channel making awesome and (subjectively) unique videos like the one youre watching
LTT is actually a big example to me. I can't think of any youtuber who has put so much revenue back into expanding their channel as Linus. Linus should be called the Big Father! he's providing work for what? 30 families now?
@D_ans well, maybe because LMG is having hard time restocking their underwear lately. I remember it was ALWAYS underwear marketing around LTX 2019 Lol,,, even giving away for shoutout to other creator attending LTX 2019.
@@gloriouszorn4578 mmm except my educated guess left my closer to 4.2mill mark due to the average of LTT RUclips channel genre and the fact that they tend to minimize the RUclips adds to have their sponsors who typically play less on av per video then RUclips but its adds are closer of interest.
Wait, YT premium contributes selectively to the channels I watch? FUCK YES! I didn't know that and have had youtube premium for years. Glad it does it's job.
I had no idea! I wrongly assumed it was less than ads. I've wasted so much of my life watching ads to benefit creators! RUclips should really advertise that it benefits creators more, I'm sure they would benefit from it too!

Being really honest here: when I search for anything related to tech or computers - if there's a LTT video, I don't even bother watching the other search results. You guys always make acessible content that is nice to watch, it's really outstanding. And Linus simply couldn't be more charismatic

@@HappyDude1 what this guy said, Linus is great but sometimes he doesn't go into full detail and that's fine. I would check out Gamer's Nexus or Bitwit for more info on other products. Even though Linus is great, as a consumer it is always a great idea to get more info from more sources

Would love to see an expenses breakdown in a similar style as this revenue break down! Would be neat to see how much goes into the production of a youtube video.
From the bottom of my heart: I don't care how much you make as long as the three conditions below are met (which I'm sure they are!): 1) LTT employees are happy 2) You and your family are happy 3) You keep us happy maintaining such amazing content, EVERY DAY! @TheGoat Thx so much.. For telling me something I already knew I've watched they're videos for almost 5 years now and about 65% since then I've seen but thus level of clickbait deserves a dislike I. My opinion who are you to say I can't don't reply there no point
I really like how honest Linus is. As much as people love to give him crap, he really is a great guy and the fact that he took the time to make this video purely for his integrity and our curiosity says a lot about the man.
Personally, I'd actually love to get an idea of how much LMG _spends_ as well. You know, how much of the revenue is put towards employee paychecks, how much is put towards rent and maintenance, how much is set aside for big projects, etc. Data about how businesses operate has always been fascinating to me.
@@Gobbbbb That was my thinking. Obviously, I don't expect him to disclose how much he's paying his staff, but to get an idea of how their budgeting is done would be really neat.
You can easily look up representative values for all the relevant jobs, rent etc... in their area and estimate at least pay, rent and services. Probably wouldn't be too difficult to estimate their current assets and identify a reasonable deprecation period to estimate their expenditure on infrastructure per year. The rest is a lot more guess work.
Respect for the title change. When I saw the original title I thought it was a gangster move to actually tell people how much you earn, but then when it turned out you actually didn't say it the title felt misrepresenting. Anyway big ups for this video, interesting stuff!
I don't care how much money Linus makes, because I know that it's well deserved. All these years watching this channel evolve into what it is now, I'm happy to see Linus where he is now. He made this video because he has balls to do it, and to show us that it's not as much money as we think and that we shouldn't count this channel as his net value - he's never going to sell it (and we all know we watch this channel because of him, his personality and his big heart). @Linus - keep up with good work, we love how you and your team entertain us. P.S. I miss those clumsy moments
He's this popular because he's the Blink182 of gaming. He's a big kid to actual kids. He knows that to the actual "pc masterrace" crowd he's a hack. His popularity for unboxing sponsored junk no one can afford right now during the pandemic is actually incredibly offensive if you're not an insulated child.
@@Makeshift_Mulder you must also be a kid then, otherwise why are you watching his channel and even commenting on it? And if you want him to review products that you can afford, I don't think we would be interested in watching instant noodles unboxing.

Half the stuff on here is way to expensive but that's not the point. The point is entertainment and providing information about pc's and tech in a fun way. Would you want him to just show you spreadsheets of which new ssd is the fastest one this month, or something else incredibly boring and mundane?
For all of you wondering, Assuming one view equals .005 cents and that the channel got 1,000,000,000 views in 2020 LTT Netted 24,230,769 dollars in 2020 (I got my number from knowing that ad sense accounts for 26% of their revenue)
I'm pretty sure these calculations are off. One of the reasons is because LTT is no longer the only channel under the LMG umbrella. The other reason is rpm. It wildly fluctuates depending on the region
@Syncreer it is, he has a point though:D of course if you give linus a rtx 3090 and a 8K screen he's gonna make a review. so the price for a review is that 3090 and the 8K screen from nvidias POV

Needless to say, I said this before: I've been watching and following Linus since his days at NCIX, and dare I say I have watched at least 75% of his videos. And that includes LinusCatTips, ChannelSuperFun, TechLinked, TechQuickie and ShortCircuit. Not a big fan of CarpoolCritics (sorry James) but that's just me, I wish them luck with that. But watching this I think... I will just buy a water bottle and a couple of t-shirts the first moment I can afford it because to be fair they deserve it and seeing how much of a difference their lttstore makes to their survival, it's only fair I support them some other way than sharing or liking their videos. All this talk about "growth" and he never once mentions literally the most important growth on LTT in 2020, aka the Linus Beard??? Disappointing video.
I wasn't going to take a stab at this, but now I'm intrigued, and thanks to those three points at the end, I'm also feeling a bit challenged. So, even though this doesn't really matter, I'm still going to try and make an educated guess, despite the fact that I'm not the best versed in this so my estimate might end up way off. Sorry Linus.. So, by referring to Social Blade, we can try and estimate the number of views across all LMG's channels for this year. Social Blade forecasts 1.25 billion views for this channel alone this year, but given what we've seen in the video, the channel did 831.3 million views as of the 15th of September (there were 108 days left in this year), so I think Social Blade's forecast is a bit off (that might be wrong given the fact that we're going into Holiday season where views might increase because people will likely have more time to watch stuff on RUclips), but in any case, if it stayed linear (with no increase in the average daily viewership till the end of the year), then, extrapolated linearly, it should do 1.188 billion views this year. Let's round up and call it 1.2 billion (Social Blade was off by 4.16%, not bad). Adding up the views from all channels and correcting for that 4.16% difference, we arrive at a total of around 1.56 billion views annually. A quick search on Google shows that it's common for channels to make anywhere between 2,000 to 5,000 USD (tech channels are apparently on the lower end of that range) per 1,000,000 video views (not to be confused with ad views). Now, LMG's channels are watched worldwide (probably with the majority in Tier 1 & Tier 2 countries) and their videos are typically long (around 10 mins). Accounting for the RPM boost that chats and RUclips Premium gives, I think saying they make around 3.0k USD per 1,000,000 views from RUclips alone isn't completely out of whack. So, given that RUclips Adsense contributes 26% to their revenue, we can make a rough estimation of LMG's yearly revenue. 3,000 / 1,000,000 = 0.003 USD per 1 video view. 1,560,000,000 * 0.003 = 4,680,000 USD from RUclips Adsense alone. 4,680,000 / 0.26 = 18,000,000 USD in yearly revenue. Assuming my estimates were somehow within 10% of the actual number (given the rough nature of these calculations), we get a range of 16.2 to 19.8 million USD annually. Personally, I've got a hunch it's closer to the 17 million USD mark. TLDR: Roughly around 18,000,000 USD in yearly revenue.
we should get this to top comment, also if you can could you try a different source of their income? i know youtube can range drastically for ad revenue for different channels so it might not be completly accurate, and i think it would be interesting to see how different the estimates are if they come from different sources
I reckon his revenue is going to be 1/3 of that and his pulling conservatively $1000 per million views instead of the $3000 and his revenue would be $6 million? If his revenue was indeed $18 million he'll be rocking some serious hardware and forking out a lot more on equipment. $6 million / .30 of actual profit before tax = $2 million before tax and by what he was saying he can indeed earn another million for his "family" by the end 2021 if he keeps on growing his company. $6 million to $7 million in revenue growth by the end of 2021. Linus did do a pretty good job of telling approximately of what his company mates in a given year so good on him for that!
I'm actually really considering getting premium despite my low income and have been ever since Linus told us that a premium viewer gives more than someone who watches all the ads, which is what I do now.
It's weird, the more a channel grows, the less attached I feel to it, but looking at this level of transparency and the high quality videos that I get from LTT, I can't help but feel happy for you guys, thanks for years of amazing content.
What’s transparent about making a video titled “how much I make” then saying at the last part of it to make sure we watch all the ads that it’s none of our beeswax?
@@YaYousef5 The key part of the transparency being mentioned is due to the fact that people have regularly tried to claim that certain companies get preferential treatment due to linus being bias. Aka a sellout. This video was for people curious about his revenue stream that are interested in that type of data. He also used it to thank his floatplane viewers and the people who buy his merch. How much the company makes as a whole or Linus in particular is irrelevant, as long as they are making the content with the viewers in mind, and treating their employees well.
@@coffeecoder8162 I thought the video was about how much ltt makes. I thought that because that's the title of the video. No where in the video is there any mention of how much ltt makes. Therefore I claim that it's click bait. If the video is about the break down of ltt revenue streams, then title it that. The title is misleading and does not accurately portray the content of it.
yousefah yousefah just do the math on how much they make by Adsense times it by 4 and you have approximately how much money LTT earns a year. Also, bold you of you to claim clickbait when your last upload is titled “ I was literally a bird.” So you were a bird but you got... better?
Possibly the best RUclips channel about. 1. Educational 2. Just all round great, I’ve been watching since 2013 and can honestly say I’ve never missed a video since
Actually, if Linus could drop things at a rate of 10 things per second (the theoretical limit for someone his age, I could go much faster since I workout) and did so all day every day, he would be making roughly 100$ per second. In a day, that's $8640000 . In a week, that's $60480000 . In a 30 day month, that's $259200000 . In a year, that's $3153600000 . Jeff Bezos's current net worth is $175300000000. Therefore, if Linus dropped things at that rate for every day (now ~ 80 yrs), he would make a total of $145065600000 If Jeff Bezos's net worth remains the same he will have much more money than Linus, making Linus look poor. Hence, your comment is wrong and you should delete it immediately, to avoid humiliation. Thank you for coming to my T.E.D. talk. I know it's sometimes hard to think about the actual math behind your comment before commenting, but I urge you to consider it before spreading lies.
Just ran the math, he would have to drop about 16 items per second since he was born for that to be the case. So you might be right. edit: damn someone beat me to it.
I did the math: On their floatplane page you can see that they have ~21.000 subscribers /// The floatplane subscribtion costs $5,00/month so in a year thats $60 21.000 times 60 = 1.260.000 So from their floatplane they have an annual revenue of *$1.260.000* 2:52 /// Floatplane is 6%, 16 times 6% is 96%, so 16 times 1.260.000 = *$20.160.000* is 96% of their revenue.

wow I'm impressed by ur smart business decision of offering ltt lunch and proposing that you could shadow linus. pls let me shadow u so I can gain some of your business acumen. I will bring celery sticks and peanut butter.
I wish people would stop with this, the dropping things for the most part is scripted. Not saying he has never dropped anything ever, but the vast majority is scripted. Pretty sure he accidentally dropped something, and saw a rise in user engagement and decided to run with it.
@@oarnaur RUclips pays somewhere between $3 to $10 per thousand views. Linus said they are running at rate of about billion views for 2020, so that is $3,000,000.00 to $10,000,000.00 in RUclips revenue alone. Linus showed that RUclips brought 26% of revenues, so that means the total revenue is between $11,500,000.00 and $38,500,000.00. Even assuming very generous pay for the 30 employees, assuming he pays rather expensive rent, and other costs he isn't spending over $5,000,000.00, so the profit ends up in the $6,000,000.00 to $33,000,000.00 range depending on what RUclips actually pays, but tech content leans toward the higher end of the payscale. Scale down for previous years as they had less views then for what they earned before. So conservatively he is worth somewhere in eight figures, certainly not in nine or ten, but more than "mere" millionaires with just seven figures. I'm just pointing out that while Linus did not give his salary, he's shown enough of his lifestyle to indicate that he does not take home nearly as much as someone that has worked as hard and struggled as much as he has would easily be entitled to. I've always trusted LTT as a source because at the end of the day I don't believe Linus or most of the main cast could be bought off. They hold very important jobs, but I genuinely believe they are just kids running around a toy store of their own making and no amount of money could take that from them.
My thoughts exactly.. we've all seen the home ..the cars...the PC's ...the gadgets .. etc...he definitely doesn't pull too much 'cash' from the LTT company....I get the feeling he's more interested in growing the 'brand' which benefits his team as much as him.
LTT Total 2020 Income: $15M to $30 Million - This is the gross income estimate (Doesn't include the costs) Calculation: $4-$8 AdSense CPM 1B views in 2020 -> AdSense Revenue: $4M to $8M (This is 26% of their revenue) $4M / 0.26 = ~$15M $8M / 0.26 = ~$30M Edit: Mentioning that estimate is just the gross income and not the net income
I had to take you up on the challenge. I don't know your 2020 viewer numbers, but I do know that your 2022 viewer numbers were around 800m. Assuming your views were around 500m at $11 cpm (views is probably higher, CPM is probably lower) that'd put you at about $5.5m in YT revenue. Since that's ~26% of your annual revenue, the multiplier to get to your annual revenue is 3.846153846. That would put us at an annual revenue of about $21,153,846 but since this is an estimate, I'll say around $20m and probably between $18m and $22m. This doesn't include expenses and I'm estimating your expense ratio at roughly 80%. That puts your profitability at roughly $3.6m to $4.4m per year. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if your take home is between $500k to $1m. You don't seem like the greedy type (but I could be wrong, I only know you through your channel persona and I don't know you personally) but we'll split the difference and I'll estimate your take home income at $750k. That would leave the company with $3m in the bank. It also means you'd make about $2/subscriber/year which I don't think is an unreasonable estimate, either (total subs at the time was 11.8m).
Let's asume that your RPM is about 1.6-2 (dunno about rates on English speaking RUclips, but here IN MOTHER RUSSIA this would be pretty good), so with ~100m views per month (1.2b in one year holy fuqq) you're making about 160-200k USD per month with only RUclips Ads. With 26% share this mean ~600-800k USD per month with all the revenue sources? Is this even real? But this could be even higher cause I scale up my own analytics with your views and higher RPM so... GOOD JOB
1. I dont think that's how ads work. Linus had a global audience and the rate at which RUclips pays depends on the location.. 2. Technically, he is running a business so to answer the question of how much he earns, you should include tax..

LTT and these types of money breakdown videos is a big reason for me paying for RUclips Premium. Knowing I can contribute to all the channels I watch on RUclips without necessarily having to donate to each of the individually is really cool to me. But I've also bought LTT merch anyway ;)

I’m pulling this number completely out of thin air, but judging the house Linus lives in, the technology he are keeps in it, and the upgrades hes made to it. I’m willing to guess he takes home around 135k USD a year. From what I’ve learned about Linus after watching since 2015, is that at the end of the day, hes humble. @@BenjaminWeeb it doesn't really work that way for business owners. You usually make your salary pretty low, because, well, taxes. @@BenjaminWeeb So after some basic research and calculation here's what LTT Makes as a company as of 2020 (These numbers aren't perfect and are just a rough estimation) The Average RPM (Revenue Per Thousand Views) on RUclips is Roughly $3-$5. Taking the number of views showed that The LTT main channel has had in 2020 (826,000,000) So calculating that on the low end ($3 per thousand views) brings it roughly to $2.478M Since RUclips makes up 26% of their annual income we can multiply our final answer to get the final amount bringing us to a whopping $9.515M total annual income However, calculating it more on the high end of RPM ($5 per thousand views) we end up with a much different number So taking the 826M channel views in 2020, and finding the amount that's worth at a $5RPM brings us to $4.13M However, that's only 26% of their income so far so the total income will bring us to $15.859M So LTT as off October 2020 Has made between $9.515M to $15.859M Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

I did the calculations on the actual amount LMG makes per year as an estimate and got $7,692,300. I based it off the 26% RUclips Adsense and as Linus said they were on track for 1 billion views. At a very reasonable price of $2 per 1000 video views, this equals to $2M, and as per the pie chart, this is 26% of total income. You then divide the $2M by 26 which gives you 1% ($76,923). Then multiply this by 100 which gives you the total income for Linus Media Group is $7,692,300. Please note this is just an estimation and they have a huge amount of expenses such as staff salaries, multiple RED Cameras, the studio, sets and a huge amount of other equipment.
On Wan show linus said one of his goals at LTT was that all employees would be able to own a home off of what they make at LTT and that he was very happy because pretty much everyone except luke had homes at that point. Luke was still renting but now he has bought a house. Many LTT members drive Tesla's and bmw's aswell so I'd assume they are paid quite well. Sure new employees might not of purchased a home at this point but as long as theres a possible path to do so I'd say thats awesome. Also they are based out of Vancouver which has extremely expensive housing so to own a home takes some serious money.
In all fairness, his employees should all be well compensated. Most of the jobs performed are what is known as "skilled positions". Meaning that most would have an educational background in their respective field. Most skilled positions have higher pay rates. Now, in America at least, this doesn't always translate well and we see a lot of underpaid skilled workers. I believe that should be changed as to encourage people to seek higher education as a means to better there fiscal life's. With the caveat that they actually enjoy their chosen career.
Being a almost decade long subscriber, I am proud of knowing that Sebastian has managed to make LTT as of 2020 a multimillion company that has an annual revenue of +- 20 million dollars 💵. You can easily look up representative values for all the relevant jobs, rent etc... in their area and estimate at least pay, rent and services. Linus genuinely became HOT when he started growing it.
I trust that beard.
Haha!
Under rated comment, love it dude. I think you have it for the numbers
Factor in that they are paying ~25 people's wages and have significant capital expenses, and that seems fairly reasonable.
I could have never guessed it was that much. I was guessing maybe half of that. Very interesting
we should get this to top comment, also if you can could you try a different source of their income? i know youtube can range drastically for ad revenue for different channels so it might not be completly accurate, and i think it would be interesting to see how different the estimates are if they come from different sources

If linus made 10$ for everything he’s dropped he would make Jeff Bezos look poor

@@jesseanderson182 Well, sounds about right.
Actually, if Linus could drop things at a rate of 10 things per second (the theoretical limit for someone his age, I could go much faster since I workout) and did so all day every day, he would be making roughly 100$ per second.
In a day, that's $8640000

Jeff Bezos's current net worth is $175300000000.
Therefore, if Linus dropped things at that rate for every day (now ~ 80 yrs), he would make a total of $145065600000

yo that was really good, may be u can teach some to linus.
I did the math:
On their floatplane page you can see that they have ~21.000 subscribers
/// The floatplane subscribtion costs $5,00/month so in a year thats $60
21.000 times 60 = 1.260.000
So from their floatplane they have an annual revenue of *$1.260.000*
2:52 /// Floatplane is 6%, 16 times 6% is 96%, so 16 times 1.260.000 = *$20.160.000* is 96% of their revenue.

LTT Total 2020 Income: $15M to $30 Million - This is the gross income estimate (Doesn't include the costs)
Calculation:
$4-$8 AdSense CPM
1B views in 2020 -> AdSense Revenue: $4M to $8M (This is 26% of their revenue)
$4M / 0.26 = ~$15M
$8M / 0.26 = ~$30M

So after some basic research and calculation here's what LTT Makes as a company as of 2020
(These numbers aren't perfect and are just a rough estimation)
The Average RPM (Revenue Per Thousand Views) on RUclips is Roughly $3-$5.
Taking the number of views showed that The LTT main channel has had in 2020
(826,000,000)
So calculating that on the low end ($3 per thousand views) brings it roughly to $2.478M
Since RUclips makes up 26% of their annual income we can multiply our final answer to get the final amount
bringing us to a whopping $9.515M total annual income
However, calculating it more on the high end of RPM ($5 per thousand views) we end up with a much different number
So taking the 826M channel views in 2020, and finding the amount that's worth at a $5RPM brings us to $4.13M
However, that's only 26% of their income so far so the total income will bring us to $15.859M
So LTT as off October 2020 Has made between $9.515M to $15.859M

I used $3 per thousand views as 26% and got 11.5M

All I care is that you pay the employees with families enough to support them well.
