- Type 45 Destroyer, HMS Diamond sailed from Portsmouth on 22nd November. It has been announced she will join US warships deployed in the Middle East region as the risk of conflict and the threat to merchant shipping increases. More detail here: www.navylookout.com/hms-diamo...

Visiting Portsmouth from Coventry in 2005 (on holiday) I had the privilege to see her bow being fabricated in one of the Ship Halls, on compleation, she was affiliated with the City Of Coventry, what are the chances of that !

Never broke down some of the more powerful engines stopped working.FYI one of our aircraft carriers went to seas with only one prop and nukes in the Falkland war.

@sparkiegaz3613 HMS Defender is undergoing PIP and Sea ceptor upgrade now. HMS Dauntless has finished PIP, Daring and Dragon will probably be out of PIP next year. Only Diamond and Duncan are left, though they've already had intermediate fixes applied.

@sparkiegaz3613 The new missiles are for short range anti air, same used on the Frigates. They'll be fitted somewhere in front of the current VLS, the gun won't need to be removed.
This upgrade will allow the current VLS to be filled purely for long range air defence, with Aster 30, which is being upgraded to have minor Ballistic defence capabilities

No anti ship missiles at all. Let's hope it won't have to fight other ships. I suppose with the better engines it should be able to sail away quite quickly.
Wildcat + Martlet or Sea Venom missiles is the preferred anti surface vessel weapon at the moment I believe.
@Music5362 - Not even clever let alone informed. She has 8 × Harpoon missile to be replaced with Naval Strike Missile from 2024.
It wouldn't be enough, especially if Iran decided to swarm it with small missile boats. At least it's air defence is great@@Akm72
That would depend on how many boats were in the swarm and how much early warning they got, obviously. If we grant the Iranians limitless capabilities then no counter would ever be enough and we might as well keep our ships back home safely out of harm's way.@@ieuanjones7615

It's not an offensive ship, its probaly going to protect the US carrier.
Doesn't need anti ship missiles for this deployment. And NSM will start being fitted next year after Somersets trials
