“GOODnight, they feel so good” -The Techne 2019 😂 I had the velour cushions in my cart and almost purchased but thought, hang on, hes gotta have reviewed these before. That sound bleed is terrible lol I’m glad I watched this!! Ima stick with my stock ones. Thanks again my friend!! You’re the best!! ☺️💜
Same here, the headset is fantastic, but way too small, my head and ears just starting to hurts in about 30/40 minutes, I'm considering to replace it with the Astro A50.
sadly, same... i got arctis 9. my right ear is almost bleeding. the connectivity of the headset 2 months in is dead. the mic is making weird sounds if it decides to work. they have me off waiting 2 months emailing and receiving reply after 10-11 days only to tell me they have technical issues and cant send me a replacement code yet. thing is i dont want this headset anymore. im so deeply dissapointed from this company. i was hoping the leather cups could fix this issues but my head is already getting too hot from the stock earcups and its not even the hot seasons yet. its freakin winter. lets hope its just defective product and once i get the replacement.. probably on june... AND the leather earcups... my ear wont bleed and the connectivity wont die. i cant believe i realise i didnt want this headset on day 13 and the saler still didnt let me return the product because of their own returns policy and now im stuck buzzing the company for so freaking long. its just bad. i used to love steelseries. siberia 2 was my first headset had it for 7 years. but now im just disappointed from the company reliability and after sales support.
@@extremevamp bringing up an old point, but i got the arctis pro wifi - had a similar issue to you. spend about aud 30 on some brainwavs earcups and my issue was resolved completely.
Dr. Tech, would love to see a review of some aftermarket ear pad replacements! The breathable mesh is actually too quiet for me, so I'm picking up the Velour ones based on this video! I really like to have some outside sound come in while I'm gaming ( want to be able to hear knocks on the door, cats meowing, etc). I can't find an aftermarket Velour ear pad that will let in sound, though. Would love a recommendation or a video on it! PS. Found your channel after getting my Arctis headset, quickly became one of my favourite review channels. Subscribed!
What did it for me was the ear cushion twisting process. Awesome video dude, might I suggest reviewing apex 3 and claiming the grams of force it takes to press on their whisper-quiet switches?
Not sure if this will help anyone, but depending on your ambient temp, etc., the stock earpads do absorb sweat. I used to use it in you conditions and sweat during gaming sessions. Had to get the pleather one as it started to smell of sweat a little bit
I love how Steelseries have implemented that little notch for quick twist installation...brilliant. I'm surprised WC Wicked Cushions is not mentioning that in their installation video.
Hi Techne, love your videos, because of your video recently I ordered Arctis 3 2019 edition. Sounds good, feels good and pretty comfy. However, I've decided to return it after a few days of usage. The reason is that there is a major design flaw across all the Arctis Series headset. The joint or hinge will start to break down in less than a year. You can find all the similar complaints on Reddit. From Arctis 3 to the expensive Arctis Pro all share the same issue. The joint will break. I hope you can bring this up and cover this topic to let all the users know about this issue. So far I've never seen any RUclipsr cover this topic. Hopefully, with the RUclips community, you can help and spread this information. Love your videos, keep it up.
I have heard this around quite a bit. My wife and my daughter (formerly my pair) have been around since the arctis 7's came out. I recently picked up a pair of pro wired (partially due to reviews like Techne's). I gotta say i've never noticed any problem with the hinge. and my daughter is less than gentle with her headphones. This could be a 2019 design issue. I don't know. The arctis Pro's and the 2 pairs of Arctis 7's (even the arctis 5's i have for the xbox) are all prior to the 2019 revision. I by no means am a steeleseries fanboy. I go through headsets because i'm never satisfied haha.
2 y/o comment lol but ive had the arctis 3 bluetooth for about 3 years and i did not start having the hinge issues until a couple months ago and only for one hinge. these mfs last even tho ive dropped it about a trillion times
i have the arctis 7 and my ears touch the insides and it hurts and bugs me, i also don't like the squeeky leather noise the stock cushions make when i move my head even a little tiny bit.
I have the artics pro wireless and the ear cups when I'm playing a long time it bothers me they are a little small and a little uncomfortable I have the wicked cushions and are alot more comfortable.
I am just about to change out the ear pads on my Arctis 7x and look forward to following this guide. I've been trying to keep them clean with soap/cloth now and then, but after a year of heavy use they have got to go. I picked up some gel-filled oval replacements from Brainwavz to try out.
Hi Techne, I bought the arctis pro, but I can't stand the enclosing feeling and complete sound muffle of the default airweave pads. So the velour sounds great for me even if it does lower some of the sound quality. But I can't seem to buy these anymore, the store doesn't have them and neither amazon or other seems to have any in stock. Could you recommend a third party brand or similar cushion that will fit the headset?
Great review man! Can you make a durability review? I have read in many posts that some earcups break from the hinge and also from the aluminum to plastic interface and I think for that price they have to last long and not break like that, thanks man! Thumbs up!!!
I have the arctis 3s mine are fine the sheer height of the cups will stop the drivers touching your ears. But if you're ears are very very small you'll have trouble.
yeah i just got my velour cups for my arctis 7. The basic ones are more than comfortable but the problem for me is, wearing glasses, the cushion rubs on the frame when i move my head or any movement really.
Have the Arctis Pro Wireless, and it sounds sooo good!! Ive never heard sound being this good before, and the bass with a bit of tweak is good, now I want the PU Leather earcups to see if it can improve even more but it should if headset is already kicking ass on sound
Man, I haven't used tons of headsets, so I am no expert. I bought wireless pro before Christmass and I was so disappointed. Even after I spent way too much time with the eq settings, they just doesn't sound right and some tracks sounds better even on my old headset. So I decided to return them. They are good, the features are great, but the sound is far away from what I expected. Could you share your eq settings with me? Before I return them for good.
I have the Arctis 9x headset and was using the SteelSeries leather ear pads as with the stock ones my ears tend to touch the drivers. However my new ear pads and I think you will like them Technie are the HyperX sports weave pads they use on the Cloud Alpha S. They are a little firmer and feel better than the stock Arctis pads. Also they must be cooling gel as my ears stay cool even after 6hr sessions. They fit me he Arctis headsets perfectly and don’t change the sound signature
Thanks for testing. If the velour pads will allow me to hear more of myself and my surroundings and also slightly reduce bass, they might be perfect for me. Maybe I'll order a pair and try them. I prefer open back headphone with less noise isolation.
I feel I absolutely must chime in here to help my large-eared brethren. Go ahead and pick yourself up a pair of brain waves ear pads, the hybrid ones with the pleather on the outside and the velour touching your skin. If you have large ears like me you may have noticed that your ears can rub up against the inside of the stock ear pads or even start touching the driver wall which is the case for just my left ear for some reason. I loved my steelseries arctis pro wireless and still do, but they were so incredibly uncomfortable for me because my ear kept getting slammed by the interior driver wall and after about 15 minutes of wearing them I was an extreme amounts of pain. The aftermarket brain waves hybrid cushions changed my life. They are literally absolutely amazing, they're quite large and will definitely fit larger size ears. The only issue of course is during a hot summer day or otherwise warm temperatures it can definitely steam up a little bit inside and feel a bit toasty but I'm honestly okay with just running the AC and having something that fits me, allowing me to just enjoy the headset that I paid big money for then to use the stock pads and be cool but in lots of pain. I can't be 100% sure that the stock pads will provide this kind of relief to you, but I know that brain waves ear cushions definitely did it for me
Did they change the sound at all? I keep hearing a bass increase when it comes to changing out the pads on various headsets and that is what I fear. I went from my A50's to the Pro Wireless due to the muddiness of the Astro's. I do not like the sound of too much bass in a headset.
Is the steelseries replacements thicker than the originals? My ears touch the innersides of the headset..And i need bigger ones.. But cant seem to find any
I am about to buy the arctis 5's and im wondering do the stock cushions (airweave) have sound bleed/leakage because i am worried about it leaking a lot
I really like my Arctis Pro, I am a new owner. Are These Ear Pads thicker? My ear hit's the plastic on the inside. I am coming from a lighter hyper X 2s, but I had those for years and it was just time.
I think the pain I’m having right now with them I just got them today so I need to break them in. Is I feel a lot of pressure specifically on my right ear or wearing glasses almost feels like someone is pushing behind my earlobe. So kind of leaning towards the first one you reviewed if I’m to get one
Agree, I have the Steelseries Arctis Pro and the earcups are so comfortable and the sound is so gooood on them. Although in summer, when my ears get sweaty, they kinda stink :/
Not for bass heads.... they cant handle bass well as the volume gets really low when bass kicks in. They have alot of highs which can give you fatigue after long listening. So just lower the mids and highs, bass up by half or slightly more will be fine.
Thanks for the great video! I have the wired Arctis Pros with Gamedac and need earcups that are a bit larger than the stock OEM offering. So my earlobes are getting smashed which is very uncomfortable. Any suggestions?
Yeah the pleather ear cups help lowered and muffle out the sound from around you. It's not a noise canceling feature But they help muffle the sounds. Also depending on the company some of these pleather ear cups feel so nice.... the HyperX Alpha and Orbit cups feel really nice
@@Muzzymart_ I'm not sure, small ears might feel, small? With Alpha S headset. You can also get some customer earpods from Brainwavz or Wicked Cushions
I tried to contact SteelSeries! I was planning to buy a leather cushions for my Arctis Pro Wireless because I wanted more Base so I check the price it was like 19,99$ cad a pair (that seems fair enough). I went for the payment checkout and the shipping was 39,99$ cad... I was like I'm not sure anymore lol! @The Techne
The SteelSeries arctis pros kill my jaw. Sound great but uncomfortable to wear. They feel really nice when you first put them on but after about an hour the discomfort becomes pretty noticeable.
Great review but my arctis 7 for my Xbox actually had larger ear cushions then the arctis pro wireless I got. So I ended up swapping them. But I need to get a replacement because I wear glasses and feel the tension on my ears.
Have you ever had any instances where your ears would touch the drivers of the headsets? Assuming that the angled drivers prevents this from happening?
My ears touch with the stock airwave pads. I tried the pleather ones by Steelseries and had no issues. Using the new sportsweave from HyperX now on my Arctis 9x as they feel perfect to me.
I'm thinking about trying to use my Arctis 3 i picked up a few months ago meant for gaming and simple PC usage, now also with my DJ controller that i recently got (TRS ftw) to stay busy at home. I noticed i need better sound isolation (yes, the outside sound comes into my ear cups) with the monitors blazing at me, so the leather pads might be a good solution until i can afford the HD-26 Pro (with dB limiter build in for ear protection). Been informative video even if your advice was different than my need.
Hi, thanks for doing this review. I own a pair of Arctis 7 2019, and the stock ear pads feels good. But when wearing the headset the cups touches my ears. So I cannot wear it for long session until my ears hurts and since my ears touches the cups it gets kind of hot as well. Would you say that the replacement ear pads would solve my issue?
its so sad i didnt find this video before buying this crappy headset. seriously how do u manage this shallow earcup? its the most irritating thing ive encountered on pc gear so far
I tried the artics 3 Bluetooth version . While using with the 3.5mm cable with music sounds suck. Low volume with pleather you do get more bass. Gonna give them a shot with my switch to see if sounds better.
@@BruhBruh-mk5yg I am looking for recommendation I have found some and that is why I am asking if @the techne have some recommendations for us. READ IT AGAIN! " Give us some example "
is it possible to enhance the distance between ear and speaker with one of the cups? So are any of them thicker than the usual delivered one? got an Arctis 9
Andrew Vo arctis Support told me That the leather pads may work out better but the guy couldn‘t give me a valid recommemdation so i decided to send them back
Hey Techne, I just got the Arctis Pro Wireless but I found that they're not as accurate soundwise when it comes to distance, is there some way I can change that?
They are comfortable but too shallow for my ears. If you wear glasses and your ears stand off a bit then after using the headset for a while my ear starts touching the driver which is not a nice feeling. If you don't have that problem they are good, but for me, first thing I bought where deeper ear pads simply because I cannot put them on for longer than an hour or two at a time. By far the best ear pads for me are on my Bose Q35, but I cannot use it as actual gaming headset since you have the bluetooth problem with being wireless and using a mic always sampling down your sound quality to phone quality.
hey i got arctis 9 and they scratch my ear so much it bleeds plus the connectivity is the worst thing ive seen in my life... they have to be a defective product but if thats not the case i want to buy the bose qc 35 ii. can u please let me know if u have found a reliable bluetooth adapter for your pc? any reccomended bt adapter i have found in forums are not sold in Greece and i really need a good ANC headset. i tried getting the bose qc 35 ii gaming headset but they are not sold in europe yet... plz help if u can. which earpads are u using for your arctis? can u link them to me so i can maybe try them out?
I have the articus 1 wireless after about a hour they start to hurt the outside of ear it starts to touch the hard part..I want pads that are going to extend the cushion so my ears dont touch
...Question I bought them and my weird shaped left ear touches the inside (the steel) of the sound output. it really hurts after a while. Do you think one of these ear pads extend the distance of my ear to the steel inside?
@@danielsmoothie yeah sold mine to a friend and bought the Razer Nari Ultimate. It’s perfect only the wireless range is kinda bad. But it’s comfy! Some websites got it on discount. It was 200 euro’s I got it for like 129 euro.
I bought a week ago the arctis 5 and my ears are touching the inside unlike the most people and because of that I bought a no-original leather inclined ear pad to try to solve the problem. The pads have not arrived but I hope when they will it will fix my problem 😢😢. I tell this for some of you guys to be aware of that.
Been looking for some replacement ear pads for my Arctis Pro Wireless, as I find the stock pads kinda press on the bottom of my ears a little bit. I tried Velour pads, as that's what is on my Sennheiser HD58x. But man, it absolutely kills the sound quality. It sounds as though all your sound is in the mid range, lacking in bass and lacking in treble also. Paid £20 for em too. Ouch
Where can I order the full Leather or Pleder ear pads. I don't like the stock ones. I need the full Leather or pleder ear pads for my SS 9X. Anyone know where i can order them???
Are the velour ones thicker than the airweave/stock earpads? My problem with the arctis 1wireless is the shallow earpads. My ears are pressed against the driver walls when I use it.
@@TargetSniper365 They are from America. To expensive to buy them for me because I live in the Netherlands. I ordered some brainwavs earpads. Wish me luck. I also have the same problem that my right ear presses on the driver.
you know how horrible it must feel to have a fan blowing directly into your ear next to vibrating speaker drivers that will definitely make the fan make more noise and rattle over time as it is directly interfering with the music or game u are listening to
Okay u can stop lmao keep up the good work and I love ure reviews the most cause you do the mic tests like 3 other channels I have found have done that ure the reason I got the Arctic 9x

Yeah the pleather ear cups help lowered and muffle out the sound from around you.
It's not a noise canceling feature
But they help muffle the sounds.
Also depending on the company some of these pleather ear cups feel so nice.... the HyperX Alpha and Orbit cups feel really nice
@@tsohgallik I have small ears will it touch the driver?
@@Muzzymart_
I'm not sure, small ears might feel, small? With Alpha S headset.
You can also get some customer earpods from Brainwavz or Wicked Cushions
I tried to contact SteelSeries! I was planning to buy a leather cushions for my Arctis Pro Wireless because I wanted more Base so I check the price it was like 19,99$ cad a pair (that seems fair enough). I went for the payment checkout and the shipping was 39,99$ cad... I was like I'm not sure anymore lol! @The Techne
my ear cushions are breaking apart and the air weaves are not in stock. sigh. looks like i have to pick after markets.
The SteelSeries arctis pros kill my jaw. Sound great but uncomfortable to wear. They feel really nice when you first put them on but after about an hour the discomfort becomes pretty noticeable.
can we wash the airpads? because im using it for a while and i feel like that is dirty do you know what i can do?
At this point i feel like you are watching me literally yesterday i searched for this lol
;) lol
Do the leather ear cups still hurt ears becuase on my arctis 7s the earcups hurt my ears in the middle?
oh man I love the stock ones
@@TheTechne that's not what he asked 😂😂💪
I have a set of Artis pro wireless and love them, but I'm getting a pain in my left ear because I wear glasses.
hello, pls a question a beyerdinamic dt770 earpad will work with arctis 5 ?
Great review but my arctis 7 for my Xbox actually had larger ear cushions then the arctis pro wireless I got. So I ended up swapping them. But I need to get a replacement because I wear glasses and feel the tension on my ears.
Have you ever had any instances where your ears would touch the drivers of the headsets? Assuming that the angled drivers prevents this from happening?
mine don't, but that will differ for each person/ear size
My ears touch with the stock airwave pads. I tried the pleather ones by Steelseries and had no issues. Using the new sportsweave from HyperX now on my Arctis 9x as they feel perfect to me.
Which one is the stock ones on the Steelseries website? The airweave or the leather?
Probably Airweave. Defaults have little dots on em.
Simple and efficient. Thanks! :)
Hi, thanks for doing this review. I own a pair of Arctis 7 2019, and the stock ear pads feels good. But when wearing the headset the cups touches my ears. So I cannot wear it for long session until my ears hurts and since my ears touches the cups it gets kind of hot as well. Would you say that the replacement ear pads would solve my issue?
no, these are the same depth. have you looked into brainwaves pads?
@@TheTechne I checked it out now, and it seems to be what I might be looking for. Do you know if any brainwavz fits arctis headset?
@@LeungWong on amazon they use to sell a set for steelseries
I have the same bloody issue any fix?
its so sad i didnt find this video before buying this crappy headset. seriously how do u manage this shallow earcup? its the most irritating thing ive encountered on pc gear so far
Have the Arctis Pro Wireless, very hot and not comfortable at all. Clamping force is massive.
your reviews are better than the actual companies that sell the shit, no wonder they got you doing it.
I tried the artics 3 Bluetooth version . While using with the 3.5mm cable with music sounds suck. Low volume with pleather you do get more bass. Gonna give them a shot with my switch to see if sounds better.
Should i get bluetooth edition or wired edition arctis 3 2019?
Guys can you all tell me what is better between oem’s cup and original one . Is it affects the performance ?
do you know why my mic sounds weird on the pros when i have the hi res enabled ?
I wish they made more of a hybrid. Have it be all leather but the part that touches your skin be the air weave material
check wicked for replacements. they have sort of a hybrid thing if that’s what your looking for
HI @The Techne I wanted to ask more about headphones can you give us some example of headphones that have fabric ear pads? or replaceable pads?

@@andrewvo5594 nope, Sound was great at all times
Hey Techne, I just got the Arctis Pro Wireless but I found that they're not as accurate soundwise when it comes to distance, is there some way I can change that?
get in the software and dial in the settings
@@TheTechne I did, the only thing that helped a bit was using the performance eq, is that all I could do?
My 9X hurt the tops of my ears, do you think either of these will prevent this pain?
Same with my arctis 7, that's why I'm searching for a little thicker ones, but idk
I just read up a little and it looks like the leather ear cups from the official steelseries site should fix the problem
@@FleXi2108 I bought some sheepskin ones from brainwavs and they no longer hurt my ears 👍
By far the best ear pads for me are on my Bose Q35, but I cannot use it as actual gaming headset since you have the bluetooth problem with being wireless and using a mic always sampling down your sound quality to phone quality.
hey i got arctis 9 and they scratch my ear so much it bleeds plus the connectivity is the worst thing ive seen in my life... they have to be a defective product but if thats not the case i want to buy the bose qc 35 ii. can u please let me know if u have found a reliable bluetooth adapter for your pc? any reccomended bt adapter i have found in forums are not sold in Greece and i really need a good ANC headset. i tried getting the bose qc 35 ii gaming headset but they are not sold in europe yet... plz help if u can. which earpads are u using for your arctis? can u link them to me so i can maybe try them out?
do the valora earcups soak up sweat? because I'm scared of getting sweat on them and maybe messing up the insides
I have the articus 1 wireless after about a hour they start to hurt the outside of ear it starts to touch the hard part..I want pads that are going to extend the cushion so my ears dont touch
Are the ear cups just as easy to change on the older model?
yes
...Question I bought them and my weird shaped left ear touches the inside (the steel) of the sound output. it really hurts after a while. Do you think one of these ear pads extend the distance of my ear to the steel inside?
i have this same problem. have you found a solution yet?
@@danielsmoothie yeah sold mine to a friend and bought the Razer Nari Ultimate. It’s perfect only the wireless range is kinda bad. But it’s comfy! Some websites got it on discount. It was 200 euro’s I got it for like 129 euro.

I bought a week ago the arctis 5 and my ears are touching the inside unlike the most people and because of that I bought a no-original leather inclined ear pad to try to solve the problem. Yes it did. Because they are inclined my ear is now floating it doesn't touch anything

Do all of them have these notches?

Been looking for some replacement ear pads for my Arctis Pro Wireless, as I find the stock pads kinda press on the bottom of my ears a little bit.
I tried Velour pads, as that's what is on my Sennheiser HD58x. But man, it absolutely kills the sound quality. It sounds as though all your sound is in the mid range, lacking in bass and lacking in treble also. Paid £20 for em too. Ouch
i got the pleather ones there awsome wish they were a lil thicker
What about the arctis 5 earcups on the arctis pro for the best sound quality
Where can I order the full Leather or Pleder ear pads. I don't like the stock ones. I need the full Leather or pleder ear pads for my SS 9X. Anyone know where i can order them???
Are the velour ones thicker than the airweave/stock earpads? My problem with the arctis 1wireless is the shallow earpads. My ears are pressed against the driver walls when I use it.
no, they are all about the same depth. BTW look on amazon at brainwaves pads, (not sure if the make them for arctis) but they are bigger.
@@TheTechne thanks
Go with wicked cushions for sure then man super deep padding and very comfortable and made for the pro wireless.

anyone know where you can get the velour earcups from? Can’t seem to find them :(((
Is the stock the same as the Airweave Mesh version they also sell?
yes
between the 5 and 7 which one is more comfortable ?
5's
The 5's will be as they are lighter. The 7's are wireless therefore have batteries and receivers adding to the weight.
When will a company release a cooling headset with fans on the inside, I might become an innovater just to do that cooling>sound
you know how horrible it must feel to have a fan blowing directly into your ear next to vibrating speaker drivers that will definitely make the fan make more noise and rattle over time as it is directly interfering with the music or game u are listening to
can i using this earcups to arctis 1 wireless ?
yes
