The car looks amazing in and out. I'm puzzled with the knob talk, we dont have knobs on tvs, fridges, mobiles, nothing has knobs these days, Teslas and newer vws removed them. I think is just a generational need to have a button. If you are driving and want to put volume up you will do it from the wheel, otherwise passenger will probably be doing it.
We don't speed down the highway or navigate rush-hour traffic and try to adjust our TVs or refrigerators. Adjusting the volume from the steering wheel is convenient but not near as instant a result as turning a knob. Interesting comment about "generational need to have a button" as Apple's 5th generation has reintroduced buttons (and added several more) after experimenting with a track pad. As one writer for DigitalView.com put it, "You know when you have pressed/turned a button but with a touchscreen users are never quite sure until the system responds." I guess some of us just want practicality rather than a passing fashion statement.
So your issue is that you want a more instant way of adjusting your volume, than the other two controls (screen and wheel) gives you? Automatic cars must be a world changing event. Considered one of these recently to replace the wife's Chevy Equinox since the lease is up... Interior of this looks nice and ultra modern, but the wife didn't like the exterior styling and I don't like it much either unfortunately. Will likely check out the Mazda CX or Ford Bronco Sport next week.
The 2022 Kia Sportage, same platform and power trains, is coming out just now and has somewhat toned down styling - aggressive grill and lighting still - might be an option for you as well.
Love the back, like the front, not wild about anything in the middle. My ‘17 Elantra has maybe the best ergonomics of any car I’ve ever driven, with the volume knob and easy-to-use climate controls, and I think I would hate this system. I’ll wait for them to get it right again before I think about buying another Hyundai product, because mine is trucking along just fine! Excited to see what else they’ve got coming.
Why do reviewers (for many cars) still harp on this "OMG there's no physical volume knob". There is a volume control on the steering wheel. I'd venture a guess that 99% of the volume control done by the driver is done there.
Overheard at the Hyundai Tucson Design Studio: "Well, the basic design is OK but it needs more, many more, bulges and creases. After all, our inspiration comes from the spaceships in a 1936 Flash Gordon movie serial. Back to the drawing board!"
I echo some of the other sentiments in the comments. The exterior is a bit busy and lacks cohesion. I saw one in person and I’m on the fence. The interior is nicer but I would’ve thought they learned from Honda when they omitted the volume knob. Overall, it’s like a weird hodgepodge of random designs thrown in with the kitchen sink. I do not think it’ll age well. Great attempt by Hyundai and bold choice. Better to lease this one imo.
Drivers are taught to pay attention to the road. How can you do that with all that touch screen which you have to look on to operate. You will have to perform a pre-drive test and configuration before. I think they are going way overboard with the tech. I will always take buttons over touch screen in a motor vehicle. I only want the screen as an output monitor. Safety is first.
I agree that the exterior is too busy, it appears that the door panels has a dent on it. . I prefer the look of the previous gen.. I do like the nice, clean two-tone interior.
Those that don't learn from the sins of previous generations of Honda Civics are destined for a hard road ahead. I'm glad Lyn pointed that out, regarding the lack of a volume knob, because my mind went straight there as well...
There’s the Chevy equinox, Ford Escape, Buick envision, GMC Terrain, and jeep Cherokee but they can’t compare much, the Hyundai beats them in most places
I'm driving the 2022 Hybrid limited and traded a MB SUV. Now that i'm familiar with the electronics, layout, and safety features, I can say for the $$, the car is exceeding my expectations. If you are not comfortable with advanced technology and letting the car have an active role in your daily driving, this in not your car. My driving is 70% HWY@ 75+ and after 2500 miles, I'm averaging 34 mpg and climbing. I'm sure I could get 38-40 mpg in city driving. The 8 speed transmission and motor management between the two engines is near perfect. Seriously comfortable seats. So far my only complaint is the bose sound system. Over all, I would buy it again.
These reviewers kill me complaining about haptic controls....if this was an apple Icar they would be singing the praises on how intuitive the haptic controls are.... as many have commented...most of us use the steering controls for volume anyway.
I'm stuck between 2019 xt4 or 2022 Hyundai Tucson limited . Same price. Cool Orange color fully loaded Cadi or the new blue Tuscan limited great ride very hi-tec loaded as well.. Just tell me what to do!
I was in the same boat, i went went with the plug in Tucson. Was much cheaper than a fully loaded XT4 with much more tech. The XT4 seat were more comfortable (by a small margin mind you) but that wasn’t a deal breaker, the transmission on the XT4 was already making noise and that’s what pushed me to the Tucson. Plus the fuel savings will be insane.
Hyundai have made significant progress over the year, especially in design. Compared to 2010 and prior, Hyundai model is so boring. But now, i think it has out-of-the-box design, looks stand out compared to others. As for this Tucson, When the front lights are turned off, it looks either all-grill or all-lamp. I like it much better when the lights on.
"capacitive touch." Hyundai/Kia usually nail functional controls. Messed up on this one. Like that they try to be different with their exteriors. The interior in general seems fine. Guess needs a test drive.
I agree, cars need a volume knob (and temp and fan knobs) for fast adjusting. The touch buttons may look sleek but are so impractical. You can still get knob controls with the SEL and below. I'd like to see all Hyundai models adopt the Palisade's cluster, which I think is one of the most practical clusters on the market today. Thanks for the review!

Darn it, that's unfortunate for them. Based on the new models coming out from the main manufacters and also their concept cars, large digital touch screens is the way to go. They may tune the sensitivity of the devices, but its the future, there will be a transition period for die hards but that's were we are heading.
@@estebanpacheco7102 Apparently in 2014 the BMW i3 wasn’t the future, lol. Technology is great if it actually improves things. Otherwise it’s just a passing fad to something else, and today’s “that's unfortunate for them” of tomorrow.
I don’t picture them going back to knobs. It’s part of the aesthetic appeal of the interior. I love the flat surfaces in my new Tucson.
I don't think that car made those donut skid marks. 🤣🤣🤣
The cracked the interior in this vehicle 🚗 sweet as a nut 🥜
Why do reviewers (for many cars) still harp on this "OMG there's no physical volume knob". There is a volume control on the steering wheel. I'd venture a guess that 99% of the volume control done by the driver is done there.
Overheard at the Hyundai Tucson Design Studio: "Well, the basic design is OK but it needs more, many more, bulges and creases. After all, our inspiration comes from the spaceships in a 1936 Flash Gordon movie serial. Back to the drawing board!"
Great review. I think I prefer the previous Hyundai design language to this new one.
Why why why do we continue to focus on the volume knob. Us the control on the steering wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not the volume knob again. I use the steering wheel control.
@@Retire36 I do too. But Honda got so much flack for it, you’d think other automakers would take note. Only time will tell though.
Is Hyundai engine problem solved?
Most recent smart stream engine has problem with oil reducing problem
Drivers are taught to pay attention to the road.
How can you do that with all that touch screen which you have to look on to operate.
You will have to perform a pre-drive test and configuration before.
I think they are going way overboard with the tech.
I will always take buttons over touch screen in a motor vehicle.
I only want the screen as an output monitor.
Safety is first.
Great review!😸
Yes! Their boss is the worst reviewer ( not Micah ).
He might be good technically, but very boring, non-humourus reviews!
SE & SEL trims have buttons and knobs available for the AC & radio unit

@@F117DJS Those must have the smaller screens, freeing up room for the knobs.
How can Hyundai get away with ugly looking grilles vs when Toyota does this people outright dismiss it?
Looks kool what's the specs??
Great looking. A definite improvement.
1:43 are their any U.S. competitors for this category? Or are they not worth mentioning?
There’s the Chevy equinox, Ford Escape, Buick envision, GMC Terrain, and jeep Cherokee but they can’t compare much, the Hyundai beats them in most places
It looks amazing!!!
I like a real shifter, not buttons
The exterior looks fine by me. But the interior is very bland and just to linear for my taste. Specially the central console and tachometer
Buttons and knobs, we need buttons and knobs!

Please review stereo sound quality, no one else does this!
Savagegeese does
I like the exterior
Why is it that no reviewer is annoyed by the lack of a spare tire on an suv on the hybrid ...
I like it besides that bad AC control design.

Just love my new Tucson, need to turn off lane departure as goes off on narrow roads
I just bought the base model SE and it has a volume knob.
It looks amazing
Looking good vehicle. My only concern is reliability in cold weather.
I never use the volume knob in my Toyota Rav4. I use the volume controll in the steering wheel. Who doesnt? So its not an issue for me.
It's a bit over styled but not bad. I'd take the Santa Fe though.
1:15 There's a volume knob on the steering wheel. The driver is who's important.
Beautiful suv. Way better than Rav4
Are yoi sure about wireless applecar play ?
I have a volume knob and never use it. The steering wheel controls are there
So what?
@@michaelp.3485 So they always complain about not having a knob when it is redundant
SE & SEL trims still have physical buttons & knobs for the AC & radio unit. To each their own.
I wouldn't be surprised if a decade or two down the line, Hyundai will be the Korean equivalent of Mercedes or BMW
Genesis
I LOVE IT!!!!
Looks like the designers were on an acid trip when they drew this thing up
Noticed the smaller infotainment in SEL has volume scroll wheel, but not a knob
This is nice but its playing for 3rd behind the Rav4 & CX5
What color is that one?
Looks like I'm keeping with Kona!
Can you tell me what th exterior colour name is please
Chris Bangle (of BMW infamy) was somehow involved in this design - I can sense it.
I'm so done with knobs. The volume control is on the steering wheel. Besides...don't you ever touch my radio.....
Hyundai is going to sell a lot of these. The competition looks dull in comparison.
