    The thing is; The main script has been ready since 2010. It was going to be an animated feature alongside Fury Road until Miller wanted to do it live action. WB then refused to pay Miller what he was due after Fury Road. Litigation delayed Furiosa by FIVE YEARS. Then when they tried to go into production in 2020 the pandemic hit.
    It's not just because it's 2024 and they wanted another female leaden film out.
    But I do appreciate some of the audience are turned off simply because its a spin off of sorts and won't give it a chance.
    The funny thing is; Miller's next MM project was to feature Max, but might not get off the ground due to this.

    I honestly can't find a problem with this film other than the lackluster pacing in the first half. I like the fact that this time Furiosa is a much more proper drama and has a much proper story than Fury Road. A lot of ppl including myself complained about Fury Road's story and lack of backstories for characters, and that in the end the drama bits of it felt pretentious and detached.
    For me if they had reduced the runtime for Furiosa's childhood a bit, it would've been a far better film. I also like the innovative action scenes and more stable editing than Fury Road's.

    I had a good time with this one. Not near the adrenaline rush of Fury Road but Alyla Browne and Anya Taylor Joy did great as Furiosa but Chris Hemsworth was the show stealer for me! I did feel some pacing issues but overall it was an enjoyable return to the wasteland. Great review!

  • @RJres
    @RJres 5 месяцев назад +1

    I think the other thing to consider is that with the current economy and the current state of Hollywood, the audience is likely going to be more picky about what movies they go out to see. If I'm planning to only see one or two in the theater this year, and the rest on streaming, then I'm going to wait for something where I feel my money will be well spent - a "must see" instead of a "yeah I'd watch that I guess".
    I've heard this movie is a good one, better than a lot of what's come out,recently but that isn't necessarily a high enough bar. And your analysis chips away at some of those weak points that will make it a pass for now for many. Excellent review!

    I usually go for your vision since I like what you say about movies. But I think it's different for this movie.
    I viewed it with a different set of eyes.
    It's a story in the same world. It's a "story set in the mad max world", looks like Miller wanted to make something that's not only about car chases again, not making a samey movie again is good for me, I don't want this to become transformers where every movie is a mash of the last 10 ones bundled together into a grotesque mass with no meaning. This is a spin-off, not supposed to even feel the same.
    I disagree with "lacking max makes the movie worse", I think this is too much into what twitter alt-right says about the movie, and touches too far into that territory. We don't need Max, Furiosa is our max for this one, she is the one experiencing the world and learning about it, since she was born and grown in a more easy society, she has to find her own ways of surviving, and she does survive there in very unexpected ways.
    I think what it lacked for sure was a clear rhythm, the scenes are way too complex, some setups take way too long for payoffs that don't matter that much and make some sequences feel extremely underwhelming. The soundtrack didn't line up as well as it did for Fury Road, and some scenes didn't even have proper soundtrack for some reason. The movie is in no way perfect, but when it works well, it does work well.
    A scene I really liked was the first attack to the Truck that was used before the war rig construction, when Dementus wanted his thugs to dress as war boys. Looking at the fight taken from afar, a fight that would be a whole scene setup for production, looked from Dementus POV, was really a different way to enview the events in this world, the fight was quick, and the action was almost silent, almost like viewing nature documentaries.

  • @colenedrow
    @colenedrow 5 месяцев назад +1

    I think most of these points are misses. Movie was incredibly compelling and enjoyable. Despite taking place in the same locations as Fury Road, it didn’t feel like a retread. Felt like a story that George Miller has wanted to tell for a very long time and finally got the chance to. World building is more than introducing new locations and there’s plenty of enjoyable world building in the film. No it’s not as strong as Fury Road (which is a masterpiece) but it is very good.
    These also aren’t reasons that it’s failing at the box office (outside of the first one). If anything, word of mouth will probably help it because most people that see it are loving it.
    Also disagree on the scene that you’re talking about. Nothing happens in that scene and it is extremely tame by comparison to a lot of what Hollywood puts out. But people were disturbed by the idea of it (to the point of sending death threats to the actor involved) and it’s an easy way for you to score virtue points and capitalize on invented controversy to increase viewership.

    Thank you for your tries for explanation. I appreciate it. I wonder why the film is such a economic failure, because this film grow for for me with time. The same is true for films like Furiosa and Blade Runner 2049 too. All of them have very memorable unique scenes, and this is extremely important.
    While watching this film I had two critic points . First the CGI was sometimes too much, when it wasn't need. I would be fine of watching the incredible cars move normally but not in CGI mode, as Fast and Furious as an bad example.
    Secondly I thought sometimes in the film, why she can do it, because she grew up as a slave? I can question myself this for the warboy in Furiosa too. But here is Furiosa the main character.

  • @WatchMaga
    @WatchMaga 5 месяцев назад +1

    The main problem is the one you refused to name (out of cowardice) : The strong female wamyn lead. Men are the audience for mad max. Men are sick and tired of watching women in movies acting like men.
    Ironically; this was one film that got this type of character right. Furiosa was believable as a character and as a woman.
    I loved the film. But it was indeed darker than most previous max installments. And that’s saying something.

      @@derkeheath5172 100% agree with you. I do understand that the CGI at times was kinda off putting in comparison to Fury roads very little CGI. But it would be next to impossible to pull off the big stunts in Furiosa without CGI or killing a few stuntmen along the way lol. The absolute unnecessary CGI moments (Dementus driving "Six foot" the monster truck over the mountain is an example) are what put this movie below Fury Road for me.
