  • My ‪@AmokEquipment‬ Amok Draumr 5.0 Hammock system just arrvied from Norway and I am excited to review all it’s features, give you my initial impression, show you the quick and easy set up and also give you feedback after my first night sleeping in it!
    I abolsutely LOVED this hammock and believe me, I am NOT a hammock guy. I love my tent and have been resisting the hammock space for a while. But I think this one is different.
    The Draumr 5.0 offers flat sleep, intergrated sleeping pad, which means it’s not only WARM but also very comfortable.
    For sleeping pad, I bought the Fjol Winterlight, which has an exceptional R-Value of 5 which will take you comfortable through winter. It has a maximum temperature rating of -18c!
    Here are the specs and links for all items in the video:
    Amok Draumr 5.0 HammocK:

    Weight: 850g (inc stuff sack & repair kit)
    R-Value: 5 (-18c)
    Dimensions: 198 x 65 x 9 cm
    Packed Size & Volume: 15x26cm / 2.9 Liter
    Skold 10 Tarp:
    amokequipment.eu/products/skj...

    Weight: 590g / 655g (inc tarp stakes)
    Dimensions: 380 x 300 cm
    Packed Size & Volume: 11x21cm / 2 liter
    Materials: 40D Silicone on both sides
    Waterproofness: 3000mmm water column (HH)
    I paid for this product myself and is my own opinion.
    WHY DID I BUY THIS?
    I’m planning a multi day canoe solo trip on the River Spey in Scotland, possibly around 5 days and 100km+ distance and I wanted a shelter option that would give me versatility in the Scottish landscape. Typically there a TONS of trees, but not so much flat ground. Sometimes when you are paddling all day, you start to get depserate for a good campsite and this feeling can compound into errors on the water as it gets later in the day. I’ve experience this myself and so I decided to give this a shot.
    I slept in it and happy to report I slept like a BABY! I slept better than in my tent, and I am definitely a TENT guy..
    I love this product and can’t wait to see how it does on my next expedition coming soon towards the end of this month (September).
    Please lsubscribe to stay tuned & would love to hear your comments or questions on this product!
    Adventure awaits,
    Eze.

    My wife and I bought ours last winter and used them numerous times, spring, summer and fall. We are so in love with our Amoks I cannot express enough! No worries about rocks, roots, water pooling, uneven ground, bad night's sleep! Extra weight, particularly because we both have one (as opposed to just 1 tent) but nonetheless they are so worth it! we sleep better in them than our own bed at home. Quality and engineering are second to none!

    I found another way to get into mine that works for me. After watching my pillow and bag slide down or OUT ONTO the ground I now do a belly flop into it. I grab the webs just as you would but facing down now picture an ice skater bent over arms out one leg on the ice the other straight back in line with your back. Lean in pulling on the web getting one leg in then lifting the other leg in then roll over. Nothing falls out. It’s a hammock so it’s not really known for gracefulness :)

      @@EzeAdventurer the hammock part looks ideal for those like me who prefer to sleep on their sides. The rocking may take a little getting used to though. I’ve watched many vids with hammocks being used and often wondered why they use one of those under quilt things and not an inflatable sleep mat, and then you did!

    • @EzeAdventurer
      @EzeAdventurer  2 года назад +1

      Yes exactly! I used to wonder the same thing… felt like the under quilt was too much faffing around. This one is significantly different. First you sleep perpendicular to the lines, as opposed to mostly parallel. It’s also a complete FLAT sleep, and I did sleep on my side for parts of the night and it was comfy! Yes the rocking gotta get used to but it’s v slight and major part of it happens when you get in (as you improve your entry, it will rock less!). Have a wonderful day friend

      @@EzeAdventurer Oh I fully believe it is. Just wish they would bundle it up like Haven does. Nobody buys it without that stuff. And maybe trim $50 or so off in the process. I'm stuck between this and the Haven right now. Can't make up my mind. Price will probably be the deciding factor in the end.

    • @felixswart5986
      @felixswart5986 Год назад +2

      Yes, you do get a bit of sticker shock, but I suppose you can reuse the pad for ground sleeping. I bought the Exped Synmat LW in anticipation of trying it out with the Draumr, but still haven't pulled the trigger. I have never tried hammock camping and am reluctant to spend hundreds of dollars on an experiment. Amok had a promotion where they would give a discount to a subscriber to their newsletter but I haven't seen a newsletter in a few months so not sure what happened there.
      It seems like an interesting design which you can comfortably read in, in a more upright position. The downside seems to be is that it is a bit tippy head-to-toe as opposed to side-to-side for a traditional hammock. As mentioned before would like to try it to see if this results in me waking up every time I move. Also a traditional hammock seems to be easier to access the ground from for cooking activities.
      The Banyan is the other hammock I am eyeing, but the package there is around the 500 dollar mark with straps and tarp, so more expensive for me as I already have a compatible mat.

    • @EzeAdventurer
      @EzeAdventurer  Год назад +2

      @@felixswart5986 Definitely take your time deciding buddy - and if you have a chance to try one out before you buy also would be great. Good product 100% but not essential. You can get out there with many different shelter types you know? And many good traditional hammocks out there too!

    First I’m done with tents an mainly sleeping on floors. No can do anymore.
    I’d realy like to know what, this bit of kit is like in the rain an wind?
    Things like is the tarp “ waterproof “ or water resistant?
    Can you get a larger tarp? Thinking of wind an rain?
    Like you I’m in the Uk an we know how the weather can be.
    Any help would be great an the vids your doing on your channel are great an getting better just as your canoeing .
    Oh yes, you need to look into a canoe trolley to move your canoe Easter.
    I have found a 8 to1 block an tackle system for pulling my Narak kayak about single handed.
    I got mine from a local yacht shop an they are for keeping the boom down an fixed on a 20ft dinghy to 30 ft.
    I have no probs with pulling my whole kit out of water up steep banks, slippy ones too , with or without my kayak dolly.

    A lot of people don’t know with a normal hiking hammock your not supposed to sleep parallel in it or you will lay in a u shape. You’re supposed to sleep in it at a slight angle so you lay flat so it’s way more comfortable. Look it up to see pictures of what I mean. Regardless this hammock in the video looks awesome!

    I can't sleep on my back. Is this hammock flat enough for a side or stomach sleeper?

    • @EzeAdventurer
      @EzeAdventurer  2 года назад +1

      Yes - Definitely ok for a side sleep! I haven’t tried on stomach but I think it would work, it’s a flat sleep!

    So, six months later. Are you using it ? Is it your go to sleeping system ? Any real world unexpected issues ? Wear & tear ?
    Im about to pull the trigger !

      Still absolutely love it, and going to use it in a couple of days again. Can’t speak for wear and tear as I haven’t used it more than 7 nights since I bought it, but the quality does feel and look outstanding! I’m convinced it’s the best hammock in the market

    What about if you are a side sleeper or can you even sleep on your stomach? I’m not sure if it’s completely of flat lay hammock.

    • @EzeAdventurer
      @EzeAdventurer  Год назад +1

      Definitely you can sleep on your side, I sleep on my side every time I use this. I think sleeping on your stomach would also work fine, as your centre of gravity will be the same as if you're sleeping on your back... should work!

    Seems mighty heavy, just trying to add up the grams (we in the US have no idea what grams are! 😂🤣), seems like the system is nearly 5 pounds. That's quite heavy for packing and portages...

    • @EzeAdventurer
      @EzeAdventurer  Год назад +1

      Yeah it's definitely not lightweight, but I don't think it's prohibitively heavy for portaging and packing etc. The tarp is v lightweight and really big, the hammock is prob the heaviest item, and the sleeping pad is slightly heavy but it's really wide and comfy...
