They worked on tour in 2017 and made up a band as a joke during that time but it became serious and bootsy Collins gave them the name "silk sonic" that's how this once in a millennia group exists

If anything we can thank the pandemic for them finally forming. As they said in a interview that it really was 4 to 5 years in a making(when they were on tour together) is when they first thought of smokin out of the window. But since they couldn't do live shows they finally decide too.
