Anderson's vocals are awesome on this song and yes his drumming is obviously great. He is singing in an higher range than usual and you have to listen closely when he and Bruno transfer to their parts. Their vocals compliment each other. Thank you for your reaction of appreciation for this great music! Go Silk Sonic.
I agree with you guys on this is some of the tastiest sounds and music arrangements I've heard in a long time, this album is scorching hot ,sweetness to my ears... love both your reactions bros .
I'm just so glad that someone is making good music again! I've always loved and appreciated music from my mothers generation because it's timeless! I hope Silk Sonic continues this brilliance!!
Bruno** typo lol Yeah POASwas probably a close second for me. I liked when they did a breakdown of their solo stuff at the end of that part. Make it better and bought you flowers an all that. Talented group of folks!
This is such an incredible album, and this song takes me back to an era that is so good to visit. Just got back from a road trip, 45 hours on the road, and played this album so many times. Some times singing, sometimes just listening, always with a smile on my face. Hope you guys had a great start to the new year and thanks for the great reactions. The 3 part harmonies are everywhere on this track T cat, Anderson and Bruno nailed that for sure. Love this track and Put on a smile….this week. Still playing it start to finish, no skips. Brilliant🐨👏🏼🔥🔥🔥 I agree, this style, it’s been missing and I hope it inspires some of the younger up an coming to go there. Bruno, Anderson and everyone who contributed to this project were inspired…that’s why we are so lucky they’ve done such a (insert best word that compliments here) job. I need to see this live and I don’t care what the cost. 🤞🏼🙏🏻
Woah!! That's a long trip! I'm glad you're safe!! Happy new year from our family to yours 😁 I'm glad this came out before you had to leave! It came out the day after we left for our anniversary so 😂 Also! Your hubby's a bass player?! Do you have any content or anything I can help support?!
Great reaction guys! It’s cool the things you can appreciate. With all that goes into this project, skill, talent & sound brilliance, one of the highs is the contrast of their voices, like other comment mentioned, complimenting each other. APaak talks about how Bruno pushed him vocally in the studio, & he definitely responded & brought it. We know Bruno is killer, but no one is outshined. Silk Sonic is the sum of all these cats = 🔥. This tune is a favorite, but Put On A Smile is life beyond Mars, like frickin Never Never land. These cats hittin on another level. Much of the industry will be holdin themselves, no doubt! Shout out to those who have held it down reppin the influence like Maxwell & Alicia, but these cats went bodily in, totally spent to completely immerse in the old school with their own flavor & skilled production. After awhile ain’t no more words.
Silk Sonic is doing a residency in Vegas. We are flying in from Hawaii a couple of days before -- we Hawaii people have a fixation with Vegas-- and I got tickets for March 19!!!! I'm gonna have to be sure that I hydrate before, lol. I.CANNOT.WAIT. #tastiestsh!t
Yea Andrea.. my gift for Mother’s Day from my daughter . We flew from Detroit to Vegas. Best two days of my life. The concert is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Silk Sonic musicality is PRICELESS
Bruno Mars !! Anderson Paak!! Just Fire !!🔥🔥 The Vocals are beautiful!!!💕🎤🎤 Bootsy legendary !!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🎼 Bring that FUNk !! Old School Music !!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽💕💕💕💕 Like ya reactions guys !!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Re: drum recording... I’ve had the same kind of attention to microphone placement on the three solo studio recordings I’ve made. I was playing a 9’ Hamburg Steinway and my engineer mic’d it with six Neumann’s! The recordings are worth listening to just to hear that Steinway! The recordings were comprised of single takes and despite a number of articulation errors, most of the material was passable. It’s a legacy project for my family and friends-I’ll be 80 this year. One set of pieces are called “Four Elegiac Songs In The Time Of Covid”. This set won 3rd Prize in the The American Prize competition-Pop/Light Music Division last year. I didn’t expect anything because I submitted just lead sheets and my performance recordings as my entry. Anyway, these were jazz ballads and that piano sound must have made the judges sit up and take notice! The award was a real surprise and I couldn’t be more grateful!
Parts of this song, can’t help but thinking of Andy Samberg/Justin Timberlake Saturday Night “______ in.a box.” YOU JUST SAID IT AS I WAS WRITING THIS….😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was hearing the same thing. I didn’t want to say anything to anyone either. Junk in the box is what I heard but even though that was a SNL spoof the musical elements of that song were fantastic!
@@tammiepeters6511 never heard of it and when I looked at it after reading the comments, he was clearly attempting to parody a period. Those chords come from BOOTSY, and groups like the Bar-Kays, Confunktion, Brainstorm & Lakeside and on and on, not Justin Timberlake. I have problems understanding the comment (which some seem to keep mentioning) because it seems to suggest that JT (who is sort of a "wannabe" R & B singer) is the creator of the sound. That's disrespectful.
YES! that's been my only small gripe on this song. I fucking love it. But damn it's get a little too loud at the end. What made it magical was how smooth and soft is started. And even when the beat picked up the way, Anderson used such a soft tone to hit that melody combined with brunos ad libs. But still. It's amazing.
Hey fellas! Ive always enjoyed your SS reactions! I've watched each one several times over. I've noticed something recently about this particular song. Other people I've talked to about this song (and other reactors) have pointed out that there are classic funk songs that this track reminds them of. However, they couldn't pinpoint which one(s) they borrowed from to make different elements of this piece. I think I've just recently figured out a piece to that puzzle. The string pad/sound on the keyboard is from Kool & The Gang's 'Summer Madness.' In the lyrics, SS calls this girl "...sweet, thick and pretty...", which to me is close in cadence and/or inflection to 'Sweet Sticky Thing' by the Ohio Players! Theres another group/song where they're getting inspiration for the groove itself, but I can't think of it while their song is in my ear. Maybe you or another subscriber can figure that piece out.
For this track, bass by Thundercat, Guitar by Bruno and Drums by Andy.. Bruno mentioned this also in apple music interview. IAndy played drums for all tracks except SOTW is by Homer Steinwess. Bruno played solo guitar in After Last Night and Blast off. These all credits mentioned officially in their album AEWSS
Hey guys you want to hear old school live instruments from real bands !!!! Listen to Chuck brown and the soul searchers . The song is called Bustin loose from 1977. This is where Bruno and Anderson got a lot of ideas for their songs . Another one is called Strawberry Letter 23 , the song is by the Brothers Johnson, the album was the color red and the album smelled like real strawberries .. I think it was made in 1978. You will hear familiar beats and live instruments .. Look them up and listen to these groups.. Let me know what you guys think 😉
Correct me if I'm wrong; the string synth and reverb is reminiscent of Kool and The Gang's Summer Madness. The siren is reminiscent of Fire by The Ohio Players to me. Thoughts?
Bruno said that Anderson is the best studio drummer he’s ever worked with.
I could imagine! I'm so glad he's in the spotlight
Thundercat is playing the bass on this. Bootsy is doing narration.
3 seconds in and your overwhelmed!😂
Sometimes it doesn't take much!
One of the greatest albums of all time
Yes bro 🥵
Yes 👍 💯
facts
INSTANT CLASSIC 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes
This is my favorite song on that entire project. It hasn't got the most attention, but it is the best.
Facts. It is pure perfection!!!!!
I'm nearly 67, grew up with soul but this is the best music I've heard in 40+ years

Bruno Mars' vocals and guitar solo are awesome on this song.
Glad someone noticed Bruno’s exceptional guitar playing. His vocals are always superior
This song is flawless

One of the greatest albums of all time...musicianship on every song is 🔥 🔥
This song live was probably my favorite part. Bruni got his prince on with the guitar solo, an Andy went CRAZY on his drum solo
Bruhhhh yess this and Put on a Smile shook me. Wasn’t super on my radar from the record but the live was wild
Bruno** typo lol
Yeah POASwas probably a close second for me. I liked when they did a breakdown of their solo stuff at the end of that part. Make it better and bought you flowers an all that. Talented group of folks!
They r so fantastic together! U r right how the Era of music change. Let this music of Bruno & paak bring it back! They r 🔥
Wright on.

Great reaction. This is lyrical and musical nourishment.
If you like drumming listen to their other song Put on a smile...Andy was killing the drums on that one.
That's the last one!!! See you Wednesday
Yes He Did💯💯💯🙌🏽
I totally agree with the Kool N Gang reference bro, great observation 👌🏾 💯
The tastiest shit ever!!!! I loved that quote hahaha

Yall are the only people who gave Andy and his drumming any credit!!
I'm so mesmerized by how fantastic Andy is!
Bruno played the drums on this track. Andy did most of the drumming except for this track and another track in the album. 😉
Their voices sound so much alike sometimes I can't tell them apart until I hear a certain tone in their voice
Y'all drinking juice out of the preserves / mayonnaise jar. That's old school in itself. 😁
Hahaha
Not the same chord progression as Dick In A Box! I can't with y'all! 🤣🤣🤣
😅😅😅
Listen to any of Marvin Gaye’s music. It was driven by the drummer. Marvin’s first instrument was the drums.
Great video / analysis learned a lot thanks guys 🙏🏽💯
Love you guys. Back to listen to this great song!
You two have to review Put on a Smile! Omg if you liked After Last Night. This other one will blow you away.
Today's the day! I'm literally so excited 😂 thanks for the suggestion!!
Everytime I listen to it I find something new to love about Put on a Smile. It's a masterpiece of a song.
@@jonl1319 agreed. It’s perfect
@@Beldvlmnt awesome you are so welcome. I hope u enjoy it as much as I did. It is magnificent

Regarding drums on album:: Anderson does NOT play on cut #5 (Smokin' Out the Window) ~ ~ The drummer is Homer Steinweiss ~
I'm a Boomer and Kool and the Gang was never this funky!
This is all Parliament funkadelic vibes. Bootsie and Thundercat were a part of that band in the beginning.
Huh? Thundercat is in his mid 30s, same age as Bruno and Anderson. He was not in Pfunk.
man the best reaction was @ 1027 when yal heard that break down. lol
Just joy. Lol

I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🙌 lemme know if there’s anything else you’d like to see 💛

Parts of this song, can’t help but thinking of Andy Samberg/Justin Timberlake Saturday Night “______ in.a box.” YOU JUST SAID IT AS I WAS WRITING THIS….😂😂😂😂😂😂
Someone said something about great minds once, right? 😂
Y'all need to listen to Bootsy's "I'd Rather Be With You."
I was hearing the same thing. I didn’t want to say anything to anyone either. Junk in the box is what I heard but even though that was a SNL spoof the musical elements of that song were fantastic!
I immediately thought of SNL...especially at the end of the song. I can't believe this is the 1st reaction video that mentioned it.

If you listen to Earth, Wind and Fire's song "Side By Side" from 1982 towards the end you can hear those chords being played slightly faster.
Bruno mars did the drums on this one. You could check the credits. Nice reaction guys.

House party in a dark basement, the best slow dance ever.
This song sounds like EWF and el debarge vibes
Hey guys you want to hear old school live instruments from real bands !!!! Listen to Chuck brown and the soul searchers . The song is called Bustin loose from 1977. This is where Bruno and Anderson got a lot of ideas for their songs . Let me know what you guys think 😉
Strawberry Letter 23 was by Shuggie Otis. It was covered and became famous by the Brothers Johnson.
bootzilla on the bass baby !!!

Dick in box took their chords from real soul/ R& B
I thought that I was the only one who heard Dick in a Box on this song.
That being said, this is my favorite song on the album!
Correct me if I'm wrong; the string synth and reverb is reminiscent of Kool and The Gang's Summer Madness. The siren is reminiscent of Fire by The Ohio Players to me.
Thoughts?
You must look into Eric Hernandez. Bruno’s brother. He does some of the drumming.
You must be at the beginning of this journey because I’m the biggest Eric fan 😂😂 seen him three times since this!
Suggestion something new to comment on jvke - golden hour
It sounds like swoop by the Dazz Band
