  • Many of us have rain barrel to collect water for gardening, but a lot of us don't use the full potential of the rain barrel. In this video, I am going to show you how to use an old desktop power supply and transform your rain barrel. It's GREEN to "upcycle" the junk electronics and upgrade rain harvesting system! You can water your plants and even wash your car with the touch of the nozzle, it's convenient.
    Give this a thumbs up if you think this video has some useful information. My goal is to inspire more people into DIY, I hope this helps. You may also want to check out other videos on my channel, I am pretty sure you will love them. Subscribe please.

    LOL, paper towel. For someone so OCD, I can’t believe you use paper towel over a cheap microfiber cloth. Love the setup.

      Optimum No Rinse (ONR) is a rinseless car cleaning product, check out a youtube video about it! I wonder if that's allowed in that case in your city. Just need a 1 to 5 gallon bucket to apply the product with a towel or sponge to the paint surface (its polymers bond around dirt particles), then you wipe it off with a bunch of microfiber cloths that trap the safety-encapsulated dirt in between the microfiber towel nap. You just work in sections at a time so that it doesn't dry before you gently wipe it off, otherwise you just apply the ONR again to that part.

    Do you apply any filtering for the rain water? I always see large dust for dirt in my barrel. I have a submarine pump too for watering my lawn but just like the transformer I also add the net also filter for my pump.

      In the video, I showed you I added the gutter foam filter in the water diverter before it enters the rain barrel. Not sure if that's what you are referring to.. It works prety well. For my pump I do have the stainless steel strainer to protect the pump.

    How long does it take, generally, to empty your rain barrel if you only used it for watering your lawn? This past summer we were in a severe drought, which brought with it watering restrictions. It got me to thinking about installing a rain barrel, but it ultimately wouldn't have done us any good past a certain point without receiving any rain.
    This was brilliant, BTW! I would've never in a million years thought to use a 12v marine pump!!

      It depends on the summer weather honestly, it does run out of water in July and I am not lying to you. But as soon as there is rain, it tops it up. Now, if you are serious about rain harvesting, you can setup multiple rain barrels and connect them together, that would last way longer. I hope that helps.

    Fun fact, where I live it's illegal to capture rainwater. I'm not sure why, and my knowledge might be outdated. Anyway the solution is obviously to put it in the back yard where passing authorities or nosey neighbors can't see it.

      Indeed, 20+ years ago I believe my city didn't allow collect rainwater, but because of the green initiatives, they changed the rule locally. Of course you can get into trouble if you are collecting like this guy.. LOL.. quote ".. 13 million gallons of water in his reservoirs .. 20 Olympic-size swimming pools" end quote

    Only thing is ROI after spending $100 for a water distribution system. I understand the desire to use something that is free, however it would take years and years before you would see break-even. Add to that, many more things to break or go wrong vs just using the tap and garden hose. Also, if car soap is not allowed, why not use some dish soap?

      Dish soap!! Never thought about that!!

    Would it not scratch the car to use a soft cloth insteadofpapertowels? Maybe microfiber or cotton???

    • @DIYable
      @DIYable  Год назад

      Yes, microfiber is the way to go if you love your car and it's not on a lease. BTW... we have already returned the car back to the dealership, so paper towel doesn't hurt my feeling.. LOL..
