Sinatra was a master of being able to phrase a song. He knew how to split up the words of a song to make them more meaningful, fit the rhythm, and really improve the overall experience. He could make an OK song good, a good song great, and a great song a classic. He didn’t have the greatest range, but he more than made up for it as a genius at musical expression.
There were a lot of great crooners, Frank was just one of the smoothest people, definition of cool. Bing, Dean, Frank, Andy, just loads of great voices back then.
I've been helping take care of my 95 year old grandpa one day a week, and we sit and listen to old LPs. Really blowing my mind how good they are. Patti Page, Patsy Cline, Frank, Gene Autry. Those generations of the 1900s made some amazing music.
Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr...there are sooooo many amazing singers from those days. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, my parents mostly listened to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Queen, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Celine Dion, etc., but as teenagers in the 90s/early 2000s, my siblings and I were listening to...well...everything we could get our hands on! (Thank you, Napster!)
Sounds like Lex's parents had some great taste in music. Lex, get Brad on a steady diet of classic jazz and blues and it won't be long before he'll find himself with a playlist of this "old" sounding music.
6:00 Brad. My Dude. This is called humor. The song has a positive message, but isn't taking itself seriously. It's not advocating, it's not preaching, it's just expressing with a dash of humor.
This is it. It’s old timey playfulness, that’s all. But you’re right, Brad, suicide wasn’t the issue it became, or at least it wasn’t as much in the public consciousness.
Brad, respect to you for enjoying this and enjoying the message. You need to get past this thing of 'modern' music. It's just all music. You can just bump whatever you want. Just enjoy what you enjoy and don't worry about what people think. Listen to the instruments, that incredible voice of his and let it transport you. Get out of this hip hop bubble. (PS I like hip hop, so it's not a criticism)
So many people don't understand how timeless certain things are. People have been singing, dancing, making music, loving, killing, and dying for _hundreds of thousands_ of years. There is no such thing as new.
They recorded the first take of this song, and Sinatra ended it with “Oh yeah!” The producer asked him to record another take. Sinatra was known as “One-Take Sinatra” because he could come in and nail a song on the first take. Having to record another take annoyed him, so he sang the second take with a bit of attitude in his voice, and ended it with a defiant “My my!” directed towards the producer. The second take is the famous one and why he has so much attitude in his singing.
Then the producer did him a favor. Instead of TELLING" him to sing with attitude, [Which may have caused Sinatra to walk out as he was often known to be easily annoyed at any given moment] he MADE him sing with attitude by saying "We need a second take". Perhaps it was accidental genius, but worth it. Plus, "My, my" rhymes better with "July" than "Oh Yeh."
Oooh. Getting into Jazz and Blues is a great journey. So many great songs and messages out there. If you would like to dip your toes with a happier tune, try "Blue Skies" by Ella Fitzgerald or "Smile" by Nat King Cole. Also, one of the best songs IMHO to snuggle in a rainy day would be "Isn't This A Lovely Day" by Ella and Louis.
David Lee Roth covered this song after Van Halen. DLR also covered Just a Gigalo - which is a trip. You should check them out as continuation of the nostalgia with a little more modern recording tech.
I've been missing the cleverly edited 1 or 2 second close ups of funny facial reactions during the videos of late. They bring attention to both of you, it was a reason I started following your channel. It gives viewers a quick little glimpse of your personalities.
You can tell immediately when it went south for Brad just by the look of disappointment on his face 🤣 He was all in till the end. 😂😂😂 ... what about August?
I loved this reaction!!! Such a good song lol even with the wild ending haha. I hope you guys react to House of the Rising Sun by The Animals (the 1964 High Quality version is great), also i hope you guys consider doing a Breaking Benjamin stream! They have great songs! Breath is a great one to start with! I dont think theres a video, but lyrics will be fine. Singer has an amazing voice!!
I've loved Frank Sinatra for as long as I can remember. He always sets the mood for whatever you are looking for. Thx for sharing his music. This excellence should not be lost.
Lex is having waaayy to much fun... 😃 Love the positive vibes coming from you guys. Brad so serious checking out the words and Lex over there having to much fun in her own world.... 😄😎
I have 2 12s pushing 1400 watts in my truck. I bump Mr. Sinatra often. Ask me how many weird looks I get... I have no idea I'm too busy jamming out. BTW you guys should react to Suicidal Tendencies- you can't bring me down. The music video I think you guys will get a kick out of it.
Here is what I like about how the two of you balance out each other. Brad, you are a cognitive person and think deeply into a song's messages and lyrics. therefore, if a song message is a little weird, sad, upsetting, you tend to interpret that message inwardly deeply making it a little harder to enjoy the whole theme. I know because sometimes music effects me this way too. Lex on the underhand hears the same lyrics, but playfully handles them and able to enjoy a little more freedom in music expression. At times I do get in this mood especially with awesome instruments or voices in the song. That said: Lex loves you and laughs along with some of your expressions. You balance each out very well. And both of you add an enjoyable take on music. Keep the video's coming.
Lex is so fun. I heard this song for the first time watching License To Drive with one of the Coreys and it started my love of all things things Frank. I do think this is his best song.
Some people get off pissing in your coffee. They beg to be ignored. The two of you are so refreshing. You're making the world a smarter place one subscriber and post at a time
"They can't take that away from me." The song that demonstrates how great he was on vocals. It's only 2 minutes long though, so you'll have lots of discussion time after.

Cool, Lex digs Ol’ Blue Eyes! Me too! I grew up watching old Hollywood classics so I got to know this kind of music. Do you guys know Frank Capra movies like It’s A Wonderful Life and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington? They have very valuable messages for our time.
i think that line; roll myself up into a ball and die is more so a line that drops an emotional bomb of the end of the climax to add emphasis on the acceptance of a loss; rather than a literal death, however with all art forms the lyrics are up to interpretation
Many people think Frank was the inspiration for the fading crooner whose career was resurrected by a movie role in the book and movie "The Godfather". The movie was "From Here To Eternity" which won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was the Democrats go between with the mob in securing union muscle and money for the Kennedy campaign.
If you want to bring the tempo back up, you need to see the Godfather of metal. His name is Lemmy. He was in Hawkwind but most famously Motorhead. Often called Speed Metal. Lemmy and his drummer were speed (amphetamine) freaks, which shows. Lemmy is one of the very few bass players that shreds the bass! Anyway, this is a live version of their most famous song. ruclips.net/video/eBIa0o36pPo/видео.html
Well The end he says that He’s Gonna die by July… but he said before “thought of quittin but his heart won’t buy it”. So If he thinks about ending it all, he won’t, he’ll get up again. That’s Life!
David Lee Roth covered this song in his album Eat 'Em And Smile, and he did change the ending so it's a bit more uplifting ... I'd say, check that version out sometime :)
If you're doing old old stuff please do some Nina Simone! But more Sinatra is also great :) Maybe throw some Dean Martin in there and a little Sammy Davis while you're at it^^

One of the greatest voices ever... maybe the greatest.

One of the very best crooners. He and Bing Crosby.
I’d say Bruno Mars has the greatest voice, Frank comes close 2nd in my book though, Bruno’s is just a gift from god, straight up.
Hands down! Absolutely 💯!!!

Good but Buble isn’t even in the same universe as Sinatra..
It's heartwarming to see her enjoying the music so much. I wish I could be this happy.

I second this.
Leave it to Diamond Dave to nail that one!
I haven't heard his cover of this song, but his cover of Just a Gigalo was gold.
Diamond Dave real had the feel and voice for swing music.

Sinatra was a rare talent. To this day, he is still easily recognized by his nickname, "Ole Blues Eyes".
Or Chairman of the Board
It may be cliché to say it, but Frank had a hell of a voice!
Screw other people. Keep doing your thing, you guys are great. Now back to Frank, listen to "Fly Me To The Moon". You WILL love it.
