I just purchased a boat load of lighting with the dmx controller- have no idea what I’m doing yet and so glad I found your video! LOL! Thx for the tutorials, I’ll be asking you a few questions for sure!
This has been Very informative for this old man. Retired Club D.J. of 54. Embarrassing to say I started as a club lighting coordinator then turned D.J where I had a 17yr run. Kids and life happened. Good thing I always kept my day job right... All they play now is Hippity Hop and Rap anyway.. no variety at all. Boarding! Anyway it was all dip switches back then and most of the time the scenes etc. were already programmed by a pro that the club hired. My son Has his own band now and wants the old man to do his light show. I picked up a controller and wireless dangles to make things easier. DMX Really helps cue off the vertical led Smoke machines. I want to program some spider lights as well. Just getting started but looking good.
This "beginner" level video helped me get my first color to more than one light (to stay). The program bit was throwing me cause every time I had it set... it was like "nah" but once I hit "medi/rec" it said...I GOTCHU DUDE! - I appreciate that. Got you a sub too. Keep up the great content.
Imma subscribe you're videos are straight to the point and easy to follow and very informative I like that keep on going if I have any questions or requests if I ask when I get em could you respond ?
@@DJGhez thank you great channel got alot of dmx lighting coming I will get a list of them and what I have currently are two beamz triple flex led fixtures you heard of these ?
I have a question. how do you make a scene where the lights are moving in a pattern with only 1 command. that would be really helpful. like you can make a moving head spin in a circle forever with one scene. is that possible?
Only if the light has a macro for a specific channel. For example, you know how in the manual, for the light, it might say channel 1 = pan, channel 3 = color? Well it might have channel 5 or 6 say macro which would be a program the light has builtin. The other option is to run a chase which is a program of scenes. Your controller should explain how to do chases. I also have a video on chases ob my channel.
So basically what happens if i set the first light to DMX address of 1 and then set the second light to a DMX address of 16? Will the second be activated when I tilt the first for example? Since the first one is taking from 1 to 16 addresses
Is there a way to not have the light turn off when I go to another fixture number? For example, to set fixture 2 I need to de-select fixture 1, but that turns off the lights on fixture 1. Thanks
Hi dj. Sorry, I didn't know how to reply, but at the point when the overlapping of the songs ends, and when the main song gets into 4 bars before Verse A, l would like to press a button, and let the program run. I think it would need to all be pre manually programmed, because if we miss one beat, the whole light show might be out of synch. If you disagree, or have other ideas, then I'm all ears. Please feel free to share.
In that case you will not be able to do this with a regular DMX controller. Best and cheapest solution for you is to use software. There's a lot of options and a lot depends on the type of light you are using. I have all ADJ and Elation lights so using the American DJ my DMX 3.0 worked well for me. Click the link below for some good software options: www.pssl.com/Computer-Software-Lighting-Controllers?by=Category
Can you tell me what is a STEP? --and does the definition change from one person to the other? how does it differ from a scene and from a chase? I have the word STEP on my controller, but I have no idea on how to access that feature. thanx
Hi! very helpful. I was wondering if you could let me know how to do the same with a DMX-512 mini controller BEAMZ? I getting messed up with your controller which is bigger. I have 4 mega tripar, and I would like to have a couple in yellow (for example) and the other couple one green and one white, being able to fade in and out the yellow and green and white. Then at some point put them all in blue. thanks a lot
No prob. Set all your lights into 2 channel mode (see manual below). Have the yellow lights start on channel 1 (Channel 1 on controller will be color, channel 2 dimming). Have the green light start on channel 3 (Channel 3 on controller will be color, channel 4 dimming). Have the white light start on channel 5 (Channel 5 on controller will be color, channel 6 dimming). For the colors yellow is somewhere between 1 - 39, green is 204, white is 250 and blue is 180.
Thank you! I was curious about how a "basic" DMX controller like this works, and this video was extremely helpful! (I'm running Pioneer DMX from the computer, but has a need to use a standalone controller with a DMX-merger and something like your controller will be perfect. That will let me control Gobos and other things that the Pioneer software does not handle)
I have the same controller you have and im not too familiar with it. i stress out to create different scenes... but u helped alot. will try new scenes this weekenx
Hey, I remember commenting about buying the silver light, unfortunately my facebook account got hacked and I was not able to purchase the fixture. However I have a new account! So let me know if it works
Hi dj,well I'm glad to read your comments. It's important to research these things, coz at first I was all in on getting this software. Good thing l didn't. I can't imagine what a horror it might've been if I were to use this is a place, and leave this there, with them, and then they might call me when I'm home, telling me that the software stopped.
I thought I saw a bunch of control boards that work with flash sticks, or usb sticks. Do you know any that utilize 512 channels, have speeding up and slowing down adjustments of chases?
Depends, how many channels does each light have and would each light be a different fixture? The one in this video is cheap and might get a deal on marketplace - www.pssl.com/collections/lighting-control/products/adj-american-dj-dmx-operator-light-controller-192-channel
Ok, well I'm a huge fan of adj mighty scans coz other than the spinning gobo they lack, they got 20+ instant colors that can be split and just as much gobos. Is there a dmx controller that can handle 16-24 of them?
I'm adding here. The dmx 3.0 is impressive. When they say 512 channels, do they mean that if every fixture I have uses 6 channels, then can I connect 85 fixtures that none duplicate on the same address?
Ok Mr. DR I’m just gonna tell ya right now that I am new to DMX and I’m not the brightest bulb in the box. Now that that’s out of the way. I have been using electronic firing systems to run fireworks shows for years and I’m even doing fully automated shows now where I just press the START button and I sit back and enjoy the show along with everyone else as the fireworks launch at programmed points to the music. Well after playing around with my DMX board I’ve learned that running a light show this way is a very labor intensive job and I’m just not the guy for this type of work. I’ve looked at MyDMX a little and I’m not sure that’s gonna work for me but do you know of a system where I can pre-config my lights and music on a PC ??
Hi dj. I hope this is not going to be too heavy for you to address in either a reply, a post, or a video. I'm interested to see how to program 4-8 washers and 8-16 scanners to a song in 4-4 timing. In verse A, i'd like scanners to move left-right horizontally at each beat with colors of turquoise and pink. At every 8th measure, on the 3rd and a half beat i'd like a quicker movement of the scanner mirrors. In the chorus I'd like the washers to join the scanners and the washers should move slowly in a roundish circularish movement. At some point in the song there needs to be strobe effects for 4 meausres going from slow strobe to very fast strobe. I'd like the strobing to be kind of random, lighting spots on the floor and lower walls, and as they quicken, I'd like them to brighten in color and rise higher on the walls, and end with a bright, long flash as the chorus resumes. The song lasts 6-7minutes, not counting the overlapping mixing time of songs A and C. Please let me know if this can be programmed with a dmx controller, and which one? Can you list a few that would work? The scanners are 6-channel each, washers about the same 5-6channels. Is this a program that would need software, and if so, can you recommend any? Please let me know how to pair two scanners on the same address, but only like 2-4 scanners. Please feel free to share all your thoughts and suggestions and recommendations. Thanx in advance.
Yeah, thanx for that info. If you do get a chance, would you please try to program one chase with 500, 800 scenes for me? I did it simply. I took the same first 8 scenes that were in colors of purple and red, I moved the pan back n forth, changed gobos, and added 49 of these scenes
dj,tell me,do all scanners have a speed channel?mine have it on3. is the speed programing the same across all devices? Is there a standard format on how to control speed? how do I program a mirror movement to go slow in a shape of an arc,180° for the duration over the beats 1-4, &at the same time how do I program the gobos to change 12 times in that span, to select for example, gobos#s 3,5,6,3,5,6,3,5,6,5,7,9? if not on the gobos, then how do I do it on colors 1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3 2,4,6?
All scanners are different. Only way to tell is to look at the manual. For the arc you would have to make multiple scenes. lets say scene 1 is at 45deg, 2 at 90 deg, 3 at 135 deg & 4 at 180 deg. Then modify the timing channel on "Each" light so that they move at just the right speed so that the arc seems seamless. Only way I know how to do it.
Hi dj, so to address that earlier comment l made about wanting to animate a 180° half circle over a foyr beat duration, and including 12 gobo movements.. .. Does this nean that I have to delete my entire chase, completely, and program my chase to be, for the most part three of the same scene per one beat of the song, to replace what I have now, which is one scene per beat? Is that the only solution? 'Coz if it is, then what do I do with the other scenarios of two or scenes per one beat? Thanks again for your ideas and comments.
yy zz hey man. I don't know how you would get 2 gobo movements in one scene so ya, i think you need to set up your chase for 1 movement per scene. For the 2 scenes per beat i would make another chase entirely.
Thanks, i have a chauvet Obey controller and its been stuck in the cupboard for 2 years or more , Since dmxing fixtures is becoming more popular, with the aid of your tutorials, i will dig it out and start using it to enhance the Discos.
So I'm sure someone else has asked, but if the power were to shut of manually or by accident, after programming your scenes, chases etc... Will all of that be lost? Or will it still be available for when the power is turned back on? Thanks for the response in advance.
Once a scene or chase is saved by pressing Midi/Rec, it is saved permanently and won't be deleted until you overwrite or manually delete. So if you save a scene but are still in program mode and the power goes out, you would not have lost your scene.
@@DJGhez thanks again. I have new moving heads coming in and have been trying to better understand DMX controlling. I've used color pallets manually, but creating scenes just makes it much more appealing. And the setups are hella dope! Thanks for the insight, I will check out more of your vids for sure.
Also I'm going to have over 20 fixtures/lights and effects what dmx controller should I buy please as I'm not sure loads of options but not sure price can be upto £1200 if needs be
Hey man. Looking at your various comments, I'm guessing you are trying to setup a rig of multiple lights and a controller for them. are these going to be 20 triple flex units? Are all these lights going to be doing the same thing per each scene?=
I have a light I am trying to connect to my controller. It will turn on if I use the right channel, and the most control I have over it is the blackout function. Other than that I can’t control anything. Does anyone know how to help?
I have an ADJ RGB c3 controller and a set of Double face LED Moving Wash-Beam lights. The light says 15 Channel or 21 Channel. Can I hook this light up so that it works properly? if so, how?
Sorry man but no, the controller is only 3 channel so you would only be able to use the first 3 channels of your lights. To properly utilize your lights, I'd upgrade to a better controller. There are a bunch of controllers with >21 channels
dj,I don't know if you have ever ran into a problem with dmx addressing before, where your controller has more vacant channels and you wish you could use those channels to add more fixtures. well, for my simple 192channel controller, although they say that I can have up to 12 scanners, coz there are 16channels per fixture, I found out that for my 6 channel scanners, I can, essentially, have up to THIRTY TWO, nearly three times the amount they say I can have. each light can be Independently controlled,as long as I only use them in a premade program. I just use dmx addesses 7, 13, 19, 25, etc. to connect the fixtures. if I want something more simpler, I can just take control of the second layer of the dmx channels on the board per fixture, #9-16 and connect only up to TWENTY FOUR fixtures at addesses 9,17,25,33,41,etc, and I also need to access them on the controller accordingly. so there will be 2 or 3 fixtures that will be accessed by selecting a particular "light#" or scanner#. I have to wrap up this message,so l hope you understood what I tried to explain. if not, please let me know, and I will describe in more detail. thanx
For your first question, the only way you will be able to slow down and speed up movement between scenes automatically is if the fixtures themselves have a channel for speed. Otherwise all your scenes will change at the same speed. Also your right about the # of fixtures and you can have more than 32 lights if you have more than one light on the same channel. For Instance, you can have lights #1 & #2 on channel 17 and both will be fixture 2 on the controller.
I was wondering on moving heads ,can they be program to make sense and can I put a wireless on my board and hook up to first light and run it wireless?
Conjunto /tejano Live ROADCREW Lights have fixed programs. Sometime you can pick between different programs that have different channels but for most lights their channels are fixed and can not be changed. There are DMX devices that allow for wireless controlling of lights. Usually you connect these devices to your controller and first light and then all other lights are daisy chained together. Go to pssl.com and search lighting controllers for options.
Just curious but once you program the lights, do you just press the buttons to switch from one mode to the next matching to the beat? Or can you automate it?
You can press the scene buttons or to run through scenes or chases automatically, use "Auto" for a timer or "Audi" for it to go to the beat of the music.
please forgive my ignorance but how does each channel know what its to do if you get what I mean say like on a led par can channel 1 is red 2 is green and 3 is blue for arguments sake yet you have a moving head where ch 1 is pan 2 is up and down 3 is colour 5 is gobo etc how the hell does it know the difference? do you program the desk for each light so you have to tell it yourself that Ch1 is gonna pan the light etc or is that part of the lights programming that is already programmed in ? does this make sense? Also is this the same principal on say a pro desk such as lets say Zero 88 frog? sorry if these are stupid questions
Hey man we all have to start somewhere. Think of it this way. Your controller has no idea what the lights are doing. It just puts out signals like channel 1 60%, channel 2 40% etc. Your lights are pre-programmed so its channels are fixed. All you have to do then is pick the starting location for each light. For instance let's say you have a moving head light, uses 4 channels (pan, tilt, color, gobo) and starts on channel 60. It will receive all the signals from your controller but will only do something when it sees signals for channels 60 - 64. Does this makes sense. If not I have a recent video on my channel that could help. Ill send the link in another message. And yes this logic is true for all dmx setups.
Dillon Ramnanan all the dmx controllers i have used (hardware and software) have had only outputs to the lights. I don't believe you can mix and match but I could be wrong. I'm guessing you want to be able to run scenes with the software but then take control of individually lights with the hardware controller?
With that setup the cheapest controller I'd recommend is the Elation Stage Setter 24 Channel DMX Light Controller www.pssl.com/Elation-Stage-Setter-24-Ch-DMX-Light-Controller-2
This is so helpful! Good Job sir! I truly learned a lot....But may i ask that you make a video for making different scenes also. Looking forward to it!
Hello Jeffrey, makes me so happy to hear it. I have the following video that goes into scenes and chases. Let me know if you are looking for something else and I'll make a video for you. ruclips.net/video/Cgu3PKOZ2xw/видео.html
Hi dj, no, I was looking to purchase the same type of controller for each location, and l wanted to just transport or ship a memory card from one location to another, or transfer an electronic file by email or something, so that someone else who is at another location will be able to load that file into a memory card, either a microsdhc card or flash drive stick, and insert it into the controller, and play the same song that I premade the program on that file for that song, and have him press one button at a certain time in the music, and jave the lights work from there on, by the program. I was looking for a controller that can accept either memory microsd, maybe even a non microsd, or a flash stick. Thus far, the only controller I came across takes 32mb, but it doesn't utilize all 512channels, and it has a portion of the limited amount of channels reserved for par cans that each work on a single channel, from what I saw. I really hope that there are lots of controllers out there that can accept a memory sonething, that they have a slot.
Gotcha. I'll do some research because I am quite curious. If the controllers we have with flash drives are more expensive then just a basic controller with 512 channels then it could be a lot cheaper to just send the whole controller, depending on how many locations you have.
What is the EDM song playing in the background? I legit like it alot and i forgot what it is called and i wanna play it on my stuff aswell. I also have a 100 watt U King White DMX moving head 8 GOBO DMX light and holly shit this monster is so fun to play with with the controllers and still fun with the little remote too. I am soon gonna get that Controller hopefully soon when'ever i can. This video is soooo helpful and so good information educational information tutorial videos! Aspecially for me, i easily can learn stuff and my 8 GOBO DMX Moving Head light is a white body color instead of the default black color. I do like the whites and blacks. It's also helpful when you clean the light's lenses too. Like dusty, dirty, smudges/smudged, easily to clean up too. Long as you know what you are doing and using! xD
There are a lot of smoke, fog and haze machines being designed for DMX control. Here's the best of both worlds - www.pssl.com/Chauvet-Vesuvio-RGBA-DMX-LED-Light-Fog-Machine
Hey dj,well I think I just outgrew my 192channel controller, but I'd appreciate your input,to kind of double check that I'm not missing something. So, the song has approximately 1084total beats that you can evenly count 1,2,3,4, 5,6,7,8. I noticed that to program just one chase, it only allowed me to put just 200 selected scenes into the chase memory.so, I'd like to first of all check with you, is thatI really the case?-- that each chase can only have 200 scenes to animate?--or is there a way to add more?? Now, keep in mind that those were just like 8 banks of 8 scenes, so I pretty much programmed 64 scenes into that chase. So, what do you suggest I do about being able to animate the other 884 scenes? Have I really outgrew this controller? Now let me ask you another question. If I would use a software, with a laptop, then I want to know when it comes time to program the scenes, when I select the channel, like, for example channel 4, & I want to enter the number 153, then is there an option for me to actually type in the keys on the keyboard [ 1 ] . [ 5 ] . [ 3 ]??---instead of having to use the sliders faders to scroll them up and down until I see 153 illuminated? Is it easy to enter a whole bunch of three digit numbers really, really fast? Coz for me to program 32 scenes into 4 banks took me almost two hours. I would really like to find a much quicker way to enter in all them numbers. Thanx
Hey man, so I just checked the manual on my controller and it doesn't specify how many scenes can be in one chase. The max I have ever done is probably 20ish. 200 is a lot of scenes. I also don't know what the max is for a software controller. Also for the software controller, I always used the sliders but depending on which program you are using you might have a way to enter values. I'd check the manual or contact the company who made it.
So, dj, then let me ask you this, what is the difference or what is the advantage of using a software program vs. A physical controller? Is it only that software allows you to program scenes blind while chases are executing live on the dance floor, and software allows you to see on the screen what you created before executing the chase with the actual lights, and is software the only way to connect to the cloud? Are these the only advantages that software has on the physical controllers? Am I missing more advantages? Please feel free to share with me all your thoughts and suggestions. I am new to this dmx technology. I have yet to connect a dmx cable to my dozens of lights, much less program a scene. I have yet to buy my first controller, so chatting with you like this, and exchanging ideas is a big time saver for me, so I really do value your input.
No Problem. I'm a very analytical person too and do lots of research before buying. In the end they basically are the same. Software makes it easier to set up complicated scenes and chases while hardware is much more simplified and you can physically take control. Timing is a lot easier to control and vary with software. Especially when trying to make programs to run to music. Hardware you just pick a bank or chase and set a timer. If I were to dj a party, I would want my physical controller since I can do "on the fly" controlling of the lights. If I'm in charge of lighting for a concert or show, I would want a software controller with running pre-made programs. Also There are some controllers where you can mix and match - ruclips.net/video/Zh2u3c-SOkQ/видео.html&index=6
Nice video man! I was Wondering if I can control multiple different types of fixtures with the same controller. For example, 2 moving heads and a laser fixture!!
Of course. You can do whatever you want. you can make the 2 moving heads the same fixture so they do the same thing or you can have all 3 lights be different fixtures. The opportunities are endless. What controller, moving heads and laser are you using?
In the end of your video, does the chases change in corralation to the music or is it just after a time? If it's triggered from the music, how does that work? Do you have any videos doing the same things on computer software? Thanks!
Hello, i actually wanted to keep it simple since its a video for beginners so i ran it with just scenes only. If you wanted to get more technical you could use timed or sound active chases or software. Here's a video of the light show that shows how I controlled the lights. ruclips.net/video/CPHi3RPzUaM/видео.html
Thanks for the quick answer! I really love your videos, they really help us beginners out :D Since I got in touch with you, would you mind answering a quick question? Is it still true that there's a risk with using audio XLR cables for DMX purposes? How can you tell if you have a DMX ready cable? They look so alike. And thanks again!
Such a good question. Especially since at my current job I am working on cable routing for medical devices. To make things simple, whenever you have current going through a wire, it generates an electrical field that circles around the wire. This electrical field can disrupt signals in other cables running nearby. To prevent this wires are insulated. DMX and XLR cables are exactly the same (3 pin, gauge size, conductor type etc.) and will both work the same except DMX is insulated for digital multiplex signals while XLR cables insulate audio signals. So technically these cable are interchangeable unless they are running in parallel with each other, then you will need to either run them farther apart, perpendicular, or add insulation. Let me know if this answers your question.
And to answer your other question, the only way to tell the difference is to look at the cable itself (not the connector ends) and somewhere it should say Digital or Audio. See this video for more info: ruclips.net/video/n4f7WxnMa0Q/видео.html
Hi dj, as always your comments and thoughts are very much appreciated. So let me throw at you these two questions. One, I must first of all apologize to you. I got mixed up last time. I meant to ask you if there is a physical controller that has a memory slot? I've been looking, I found only 1 that has a 32mb usb drive, the adj dmx operator procontroller, but it doesn't give me all 512 channels for scanners and moving heads. Do you know any controllers that can let me utilize all 512 channels with a memory slot? Memory slot can either be microsdhc cards or usb sticks. Second question, if I want to premake my programs for like 200 songs and want to be able to use them in 3 different locations, where each location will need to have the same exact controller, or software, so that l can pull up the premade program, then my question is can this be done with a controller at all, or is the only solution a software program? Thanx again.
I'm so thankful that you have this video for beginners. Good Job! May I ask that you have a video on programming scenes for Par LED and moving heads. Thanks in advance!
Nice tutorial! I have some basic questions, maybe you can help. 1. Is it possible to turn off/on automatic programs (like sound active) with just 1 push on a button? Or is it always done by a fader change? So when i just simple want to turn on/off individual lights (with automatic programs) this controller type will be a option? 2. How did you connect the lights with the controller? Is it just 1 dmx cable going into it? Do you use the dmx input output of every lite to connect them to each other(master/slave way) or every light going to the controller with a separate cable? 3. How does the controller knows with light is connected to which channel on the controller if they are connected in a serie?
1. Most lights have a feature where one of the channels will turn the light off. You use this channel to turn off that specific light. 2. Yes you daisy chain each light in series just like for master/slave mode. 3. The controller doesn't know anything about the lights. It just sends commands for each channel (152). Each light is set to read a certain range of channels and, when it sees these signals, it will do what it is supposed to. For example if you have a light that takes 4 channels and you set to channel 10 (either with dipswitches or the digital display) then it will see all 152 channels coming from the controller but only respond to channels 10 - 14.
Thank you for the answers! So is it possible to turn a light from off modus to a sound active modus with a push on a knob? Not by a fader change? or is it both possible?
@@DJGhez Is it as simple as setting up scenes - and assigning them to midi notes from the keyboard. Like within the sequence - we could have flashes happen at certain spots or fades etc - we haven't setup everything just yet. Still trying to get a handle on how to make it work. Chauvet has software - we the DMX box - so I'm guessing we will have to do a USB to midi - laptop running the software etc...
@@Tracy0263 so the ability to connect a midi controller to a dmx software program is dependent on if the software supports midi and if the software's controller has a port for the midi cable. If you have both of these then it should be pretty straightforward to setup
hi dj, okay,so you only have 2 scanners. that still can work for me. let me ask you then, one challenge I'm facing is that for a duration of a "beat"in the music, I need like 6 different rhythms of light,or movements of the mirror,or color rotations. 1=three equal movements, per beat,so in 4"beats" of the song,I'm doing 12movements. this is a different rhythm than all the rest that I will describe. 2=one long pulse,or a wash,to last the full "beat", 3=a longer pulse, movement, wash that holds out for a duration of 4"beats" of the song. 4=these next rhythms are much faster than what was described up to now. I need 4 quick and equal movements of either the mirror or gobo or color wheel for that one single "beat" in the song. 5=similar to #4rhythm, I need 3 movements of either the mirror or gobo or color wheel, but the first of the 3 movements is slower, longer than the other last 2,which are just as quick as the 4 equal ones described in #4rhythm. 6=is slower, 2 equal movements for that one "beat" of the song. so I need to know how to program these 6 basic movements, and then I need to have one light do one of these rhythms, while I have a second light, simultaneously do another different rhythm. as always, your suggestions are most appreciated. I will add another little note for you about dmx addressing, next.
Oh, btw dj, I heard from that reseller you recommended about that mydmx 3.0 software and it was confirmed that american dj does require an internet connection between every 40-60days, to be resynched. Too bad, coz I don't want a software program that constantly needs to be breast-fed by an internet connection. And if it does need that, then I look at it differently, that it should be free of charge and not cost me 300 smackarooz. If I buy it, then there's no reason why I would need to reconnect it, if I don't want to. Do you know other software programs that don't require a periodic internet connection?
Wow. I'm amazed it will stop working offline if you don't update. The way ADJ words it in their manual is “Maintenance application that installs with the program to check for component updates or new versions of the software." I would just think it has the ability to update but wouldn't force you to. That being said I can not say with 100% certainty that I know of a controller that does not force updates. I have used a bunch (pre-installed at venues) but I have only personally owned hardware controllers.
Hey, dj, I would like to know if you can recommend any other physical controller, more preferably, or any other software, other than the mydmx3.0.I was very, very excited about you recommending the mydmx3.0 last week, as the specs looked very impressive, and then some. However, after reading various reviews across the innernet, this looks like a safety hazard, smoking, sending dmx data to operate lights even when it's off, requiring owners of product to re-register again and again, and requiring various and unnecessary connection to the internet to download updates and unwanted upgrades. I would really like something that if I spent money on it, then I want it off, free from any internet connections, free from the ransom behaviors of requiring me to go on the web to do this and that and that and this, you know?I like that it offers these great features of speeding up and slowing down the chases to match the beat of the music, I like the ability to play multiple scenes at a time, the stand alone backup memory, although I'm also perfectly happy with using flash drives to plug into the controller. I think that the three most important features that I would need, if you would agree with me, are a pkug in flash drive to save and load pre-programmed chases, the speeding up and slowing down of the chases to match the beat of the music, and being able to press one button at a point when the song plays, to get the chase to start manually. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to ask. As always, your suggestions and recommendations are most appreciated and valued. Thanx again.
I never ran into this issue. Does the myDMX3.0 have a timer in it that it will shut down or something if you don't register it at a certain time? Based on your needs you need to use software unless you eliminate the need for the flashdrive and just do the programming on the controller.
Hey my comment was removed earlier but I’m the guy that asked about the adj spot 250 and the transaction. Also are you selling the adj scan 250s as well? And what about the flood light
Hey man. Not sure. Maybe RUclips deleted it because I added my email address in the comments. Tonight let me make a Facebook ad and then ill send you the link. Are you in the US?
Thank you!! I've gotten further watching you than the other videos. I do have a question or two though... So far I've programmed some easy scenes with this stationary light set. I guess it's meant for mood lighting, but they're doing what I need them to do. I'm trying to get my mini moving lights to do what I need them to do while the mood lights do their thing. I don't think my lights have the same phrasing that most others seem to have. My first mistake was buying a nameless brand from Amazon, but... They are pretty good. On their own, they do okay, but when I try to mix them with the mood lights... They don't seem to want to do what I want them to do. If there is a way to email me, I'd like to show you my lights so you can show me where I'm going wrong.... Besides buying Amazon stuff off course... Lol No worries if you can't... Either way thanks for this video. I look forward to more on lighting. It's new to me. I mostly do audio/video... So now I'm trying lighting. Take care.
Just to make sure I understand, are you trying to have the controller go through scenes for the mood lights and then controlling the moving lights manually with the channels? Also you can send me links to the equipment you bought.
DJ Ghez Yes I'll send links... Basically, I want the mood lights to either be the color I set them to be, while the moving lights pretty much do random movement. I can do that already by letting the lights just react to the sound, but I can't stop them with the DMX mixer... DJ Ghez To explain the mood light set up... There are four LED lights that are dedicated to the T-Bar they are mounted to. They came that way. The T-Bar... It has a plug in for power, and a DMX in, and out. The four lights are wired into the T-Bar, and Daisy Chained to each other. There is a menu setting, that I have set to doo1 ... Here's how I have it, and the four motion lights set up... DMX mixer to T-Bar in T-Bar ( mood lights ) out to first of the four motion lights.. and each of them Daisy Chained to each other. I do understand Daisy chaining because of my speaker use... So that's the same thing... The four lights, I have set them to AOO1 ( according to the manual "A" is a setting for DMX mixer control up to 512 I believe ) I've set that, but I don't want to have to manually move each light. I want them to mirror each other... Two on left doing their thing, while right side mirrors, or vice versa... But I want them to react to the sound. And be able to stop them without blacking out the mood lights. Lol... Now I'm confused again just writing this... Lol
Could somebody tell me what this effect is called in this vid ruclips.net/video/GaJqL7VNOW0/видео.html it’s when your moving heads appear to chase each other. I can’t research this trick because I don’t know what it’s called?? Grr very frustrating. Thanks to anyone that can help,
Hi DJ Ghez thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a question, I have a Max Par Bar 4 x3 LED.. the 4 heads are daisy chained so only one DMX cable to the bar. I haven't yet bought a DMX board (going to). I don't know how to get each of the 4 units to be different colours (and possibly actions) at the same time. I know they can be different colours because the image of the item in some listings for sale show that it can: djcity.com.au/product/max-parbar-4x3-dmx-wash-lighting-set/ can you point me in the right direction as how to get different colour lights simultaneously.. thanks in advance.
Well i just read the manual which was completely useless. If they said what the 8 different addresses were or how the built in programs work then i could have an answer for you. Unfortunately you'll have to contact the company for an official answer.
@@DJGhez i've asked the shop i bought it from, awaiting reply, the link to the manufacturuer on their listing is broken, its in china.. i could try, but theres a good chance my question might be lost in translation. I agree the manual is useless (shortest manual in history.. about 2 or 3 pages in english), there is no reference to individual light control separate of each other.. or to a pre-selection that gives an array of colours. Thanks for your effort in looking in to it.
hi dj, I've been looking around, I came across 4 softwares and I wanted to kind of like pick your brain, and see if you've had any experiences with them, and if so, if you can weigh in on your opinion about comparing each of them to the adj my dmx3.0. so, they are 1=blizzard lighting eclipse dmx controlling software, 2=sunlight suite 2, 3=madrix software key v3.x universes 8192 dmx channels dmx version IA-SOFT-001001, &4=elation emulation dmx software/hardware lighting controller/emulation dmx control software? as always, I look forward to your valuable input. thanx again
So the only ones I have tried were the ADJ 3.0 as you know and the Blizzard eclipse. I remember the blizzard wasn't as user friendly as the ADJ 3.0 but that's mainly because it is made to work on every type of intelligent light. the ADJ 3.0 was more user friendly for American DJ lights. I remember the 3D preview was pretty good on the Blizzard and worked offline. Other than that I don't know of any other differences and I have not used any of the other software controller you found.
Hi dj,so I was wondering if you can post for me an in depth video on how to program scanners moving simultaneously at three different rhythms, if you know how to. Let's do scanners 1+2 to do a simple vertical x movement 45° up and down, moving up to the first beat of the music, moving down to the second beat of the music, moving up to the third beat, and down to the fourth beat. They keep going the same way, throughout the duration of the song, except they stop three times, but resume. Scanner 1 is located on the right side of the room, scanner 2 is on the left side of the room. Color and gobo doesn't matter. I'm using a standard 192 channel 12 scanner controller. I will add message 2 to continue describing scanners 3+4
Message 2 so scanner 3+4 are In the middle of the room. The beat for scanner three is 3 moving in a circle, making a half circle for beats 1234, and cimpleting the circle in the other 1234 beats. The color changes equally three times in each beat, so it changes 12times during the duration of beats 1234. Scanner 4 is more complicated. I will have to figure it out over the weekend and describe it to you slowly. It's got one slow plus two quick per beat. So even though it's three like scanner 3, but the beats are not equal.
Unfortunately I only have 2 scanners so I can't really do this is detail but for each "beat" I would make a scene that does what you are explaining, put all these scene into a bank and then put the controller on audio control. If you want to perfectly match the beats to the music then you can use the software DMX controller to do so.
A bought pretty advanced laser for home use (ALIEN 1IN10RGB500). The problem is that they do not attach documentation how to use remote control which looks advanced, has digits and keys for choosing dmx modes, scenes and sequences I guess, but no documentation at all how to control scenes seqences etc. via dmx enabled remote controller - any word in manual. Documentation is a big issue. You cannot use full power of the device. I am talking about this for example (ALIEN 1IN10RGB500): @t - in manual is only documentation for 6/32 dmx channels (you can choose how many channels mode you want), but nothing how to use it with attached advanced remote with digits, dmx buttons, sek button, etc. It's a kind of tiny "dmx console" (too big words of course), but anyway no idea how to build up seqence of built animations how to choose and make a seqence of chosen one, how to change parameters via this remote controller with dmx functions. I plan to buy mini dmx console but not now. Could anyone help? Alien does not answer.
Oh,wow,dj. That's a time consuming experimentationally endless process to try and discover what worx. Good golly geez. The mighty scan manual on page 6, for the speed of channel 3,only says it goes from 0-255. Wo. That will take hours to experiment to get it right. Wow, for something that will animate for not even l0 seconds. Lol. Is this what the other professionals do as well? Or is there something, maybe, that I might be missing here? Lol
Na it would be super easy. Make your scenes and run them to the music, then select 1 of your lights and kept moving the slider for the speed channel until it looks seamless. Once you know what the channel value is from 0 - 255, edit just that 1 channel to each of your scenes and done.
Ok,I see, although I'm not set up with music or speakers at all. I can only use android phone to play the song. I don't think the microphone sensitivity on the controller would be sensitive enough to pick up the beats from there. On another note, I noticed that the club dj plays the song at a slower tempo. On my 192board the fader slider that controls speed over the entire chase jumps. I didn't find it easy to quickly be able to adjust the animation speed by just a tad, for either slowing it down or picking it up. Any thoughts?
Better Video - ruclips.net/video/pv4anoS7Vzw/видео.html
Thank you so much for this video! After a lot of trial and error, this single video has cleared up a lot of my questions and issues.
I got the CO-Z DMX 192/512 for X-mas to control 2 mini led moving heads and an ADJ Rayzer RBG + Laser. Your video helped me greatly.
As someone looking into getting started with DMX, I can't say how useful this was, thank you
No problem. Let me know if there's anything else you would like to see.
Next video will be about the internals of a light and how they works.
How do u connect all the lights to the dmx controller
I enjoyed this video very informative, it answered a lot of my questions and removed a lot a fear from buyer a DMX controller😁
Jack Jew So glad to hear it! Let me know if you have any questions after you get your controller.
Thank you so much. Very informative!
Looks like a very archaic channel matching system. How can you quickly figure out what controller setting corresponds to channel #107?
Get a bigger controller; or have a table with divisibles of 16.
Imma subscribe you're videos are straight to the point and easy to follow and very informative I like that keep on going if I have any questions or requests if I ask when I get em could you respond ?
No prob and thanks for the feedback.
@@DJGhez thank you great channel got alot of dmx lighting coming I will get a list of them and what I have currently are two beamz triple flex led fixtures you heard of these ?
Notifications are also on
The triple flex's use dip switches by the way but are very nice for the price
I have a question. how do you make a scene where the lights are moving in a pattern with only 1 command. that would be really helpful. like you can make a moving head spin in a circle forever with one scene. is that possible?
Only if the light has a macro for a specific channel. For example, you know how in the manual, for the light, it might say channel 1 = pan, channel 3 = color? Well it might have channel 5 or 6 say macro which would be a program the light has builtin. The other option is to run a chase which is a program of scenes. Your controller should explain how to do chases. I also have a video on chases ob my channel.
@@DJGhez ok thanks
Do you have to program secnces ? Can the lights go by the music and only use the control for the blackout?
Some lights have a channel for auto run but you would still have to add this to each light in at least 1 scene for it to work.
So basically what happens if i set the first light to DMX address of 1 and then set the second light to a DMX address of 16? Will the second be activated when I tilt the first for example? Since the first one is taking from 1 to 16 addresses
How do you set the DMX address if there is no LCD display? I have a Chauvet Derby X that only has 10 pins but no display.
It probably uses dipswitches. See 3:52 in the video.
What was the song at the beggining?
this is a great video i learnt a lot from it, nice and brief
Is there a way to not have the light turn off when I go to another fixture number? For example, to set fixture 2 I need to de-select fixture 1, but that turns off the lights on fixture 1.
Thanks
Stay in program mode. The light will stay
@@DJGhez Thank you!
How do i sync 2 of the same lights together? And can I make them sync and un sync with controller?
If you want them synced, set them to the same channel. If unsyced, set them to different channels.
Can you tell me what is a STEP? --and does the definition change from one person to the other? how does it differ from a scene and from a chase? I have the word STEP on my controller, but I have no idea on how to access that feature. thanx
This always bothered me. A step is just what they call a scene that's being put into a chase. Never made sense to me.
Hi! very helpful.
Glad to help. I made an even better video afterwards. ruclips.net/video/pv4anoS7Vzw/видео.html
DJ Jizz, how do you change the DM to SE in DMX?
By calling your mom
DJ Ghez great video very well said. I would like to see the video on setting up different chases in the scenes modes.

Need a good dmx controller with a built in ashtray. Do they sell that?
If you have the money, anything is possible
simple but very informative thank you very much
I have the same controller you have and im not too familiar with it. i stress out to create different scenes... but u helped alot. will try new scenes this weekenx
Great video. Thank you!
Hey, I remember commenting about buying the silver light, unfortunately my facebook account got hacked and I was not able to purchase the fixture. However I have a new account! So let me know if it works
PM me at dj_ghez@live.com
Hi dj,well I'm glad to read your comments. It's important to research these things, coz at first I was all in on getting this software. Good thing l didn't. I can't imagine what a horror it might've been if I were to use this is a place, and leave this there, with them, and then they might call me when I'm home, telling me that the software stopped.
I thought I saw a bunch of control boards that work with flash sticks, or usb sticks. Do you know any that utilize 512 channels, have speeding up and slowing down adjustments of chases?
As far as I know all controllers have a speed adjustment.
So... let's start with how do you turn this controller on.
What’s a good budget dmx to get.I’m only looking at using 4lights???
Depends, how many channels does each light have and would each light be a different fixture?
The one in this video is cheap and might get a deal on marketplace - www.pssl.com/collections/lighting-control/products/adj-american-dj-dmx-operator-light-controller-192-channel
@@DJGhez ok well thanks anyway bro.any help on this is appreciated
Ok, well I'm a huge fan of adj mighty scans coz other than the spinning gobo they lack, they got 20+ instant colors that can be split and just as much gobos. Is there a dmx controller that can handle 16-24 of them?
Most software packages can handle 512 channels and up to 50 fixtures so no issues with 16 -24.
I'm adding here. The dmx 3.0 is impressive. When they say 512 channels, do they mean that if every fixture I have uses 6 channels, then can I connect 85 fixtures that none duplicate on the same address?
yy zz You got it. That's exactly what it means but of course you can also have some of the lights share channels if you want to save time programming.
My only experience with software DMX is the MyDMX. It will allow you to run scenes to music.
Hello yy zz, main question to ask is will you be controlling these lights or do you plan to have a program do everything?
Does this have to be done everytime you disconnect the fixtures and set them up at a new venue ?
Ian Howe Na. That would be awful. The controller saves everything.
Thanks, i have a chauvet Obey controller and its been stuck in the cupboard for 2 years or more , Since dmxing fixtures is becoming more popular, with the aid of your tutorials, i will dig it out and start using it to enhance the Discos.
lol..so,do you have any idea on how can I get the little green light to illuminate by that step word? what do I need to do, to get that to come on?lol
Not sure. Never paid attention.
Great video tutorial, I’m just Curious what DMX lasers are using,? , how do you connect 4 lights to sync up using DMX cables?
Hey man. Lasers are a ADJ Galaxian. Lights can be easily sync'd if you assign them the same DMX address. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
Also this video might help as well, especially at the 3min mark. ruclips.net/video/pv4anoS7Vzw/видео.html
No problem. What light and controller are you using? I can look up the manuals to see what is going on.
what truss set up are you using?
www.pssl.com/products/adj-american-dj-lts-50t-portable-truss-system
Bro this is a great tutorial. Thank you for this.
I want to know how to hook all my lights to one controller like in this video
Daisy chained with DMX/XLR cables.
For Instance, you can have lights #1 & #2 on channel 17 and both will be fixture 2 on the controller.
where did you buy your truss?
I buy nearly everything from pssl.com or use their prices to have guitar center match in stores. I've also used 123dj.com
DJ Ghez so if I put wireless on first light and to my board it will work?
Conjunto /tejano Live ROADCREW Yep. Check this out: www.pssl.com/Lighting-Control/Mega-Lite-Mega-Air-PRO-Wireless-DMX-Transmitter
Just curious but once you program the lights, do you just press the buttons to switch from one mode to the next matching to the beat? Or can you automate it?
You can press the scene buttons or to run through scenes or chases automatically, use "Auto" for a timer or "Audi" for it to go to the beat of the music.
Great video, thanks. What's the track that's playing in the background btw please?
Sorry man. After I made the video I deleted the editing files and I can't figure out what the song was.
Dj ghez
Do you have all your lights plugged into one outlet?
Yes. All the lights together equal 780W so that would mean I'm pulling 6.5 Amps on a 15 Amp Breaker.
Dj ghez
what is the gauge of the extension cord do you use
I keep popping the circuit breakers when I plug in my lights
@@pablovara5302 type of cord won't trip the breaker.
please forgive my ignorance but how does each channel know what its to do if you get what I mean say like on a led par can channel 1 is red 2 is green and 3 is blue for arguments sake
yet you have a moving head where
ch 1 is pan 2 is up and down 3 is colour 5 is gobo etc how the hell does it know the difference?
do you program the desk for each light so you have to tell it yourself that Ch1 is gonna pan the light etc or is that part of the lights programming that is already programmed in ?
does this make sense?

I'm guessing you want to be able to run scenes with the software but then take control of individually lights with the hardware controller?
DJ Ghez yes i want to control the software and activate scenes with the controller. By the way thanks for the reply!

With that setup the cheapest controller I'd recommend is the Elation Stage Setter 24 Channel DMX Light Controller www.pssl.com/Elation-Stage-Setter-24-Ch-DMX-Light-Controller-2
Any chance you could do a tutorial with chauvet geysers?

Long as you know what you are doing and using! xD
THANK YOU AND PLEASE DO ALL THE VIDEOS YOU CAN. YOUR EXCELLENT JOB YOUR EXPLANATION. DJ LIFE

Can I connect smoke machine with lights?
There are a lot of smoke, fog and haze machines being designed for DMX control. Here's the best of both worlds - www.pssl.com/Chauvet-Vesuvio-RGBA-DMX-LED-Light-Fog-Machine
If I want all my lights to do the same thing, do I have all of my lights starting on the same channel?
Arjan Lail You can do that or have each light programmed to the first channel of each fixture on the controller and then activate each fixture.
What controller, moving heads and laser are you using?
ruclips.net/video/pv4anoS7Vzw/видео.html
Just curious at these locations would the lights and controller be going with you from location to location?
@@RickVersluis Only way would be to have 1 scene with the light in sound active and another scene with it in blackout mode.
Our band uses a Roland Fantom for sequences. I'm sure can send controls to the DMX...
If your controller has Midi control then yes.
Helped me very much. Thank you!
do you work for park holidays?
tavgaming 101 haha nope
Thank you for a well explained vedeo.

Lol
No worries if you can't...
DJ Ghez
Yes I'll send links...
Basically, I want the mood lights to either be the color I set them to be, while the moving lights pretty much do random movement. I can do that already by letting the lights just react to the sound, but I can't stop them with the DMX mixer...

How many channels are needed to run the mood lights?
DJ Ghez
To explain the mood light set up...
DMX mixer to T-Bar in
T-Bar ( mood lights ) out to first of the four motion lights.. and each of them Daisy Chained to each other.
I do understand Daisy chaining because of my speaker use... So that's the same thing...
The four lights, I have set them to AOO1 ( according to the manual "A" is a setting for DMX mixer control up to 512 I believe )
I've set that, but I don't want to have to manually move each light.
I want them to mirror each other... Two on left doing their thing, while right side mirrors, or vice versa...
But I want them to react to the sound. And be able to stop them without blacking out the mood lights.
Lol... Now I'm confused again just writing this... Lol

Wow. Costly hobby. Looks awesome
I just want my startec spot just to work. DMx is hard
