    Thanks for your video. I've seen others put meat in a Kong and then freeze it, but my dog just isn't interested in that. Now I get it, starting with something that hard might make him lose interest and confidence right away. I've decided to go buy a jar of peanut butter today!

    • @EverythingDog
      @EverythingDog  8 месяцев назад

      Think of Kongs as a puzzle. Start easy with lots of quick success for your dog. GRADUALLY, make it more challenging. Be sure he/she likes peanutbutter. (Not all dogs do!) Also, you can use cream cheese, wet dog food, anything that will stick inside. Let me know how it goes.

    I have a new rescue dog that I'm desperately trying to keep entertained. She bores quickly and is really innovative at finding new "toys" around the house (e.g. remote control, laundry items, books, her bed ...) I love the ideas you have provided here to keep her interested in her Kong over time. Thank you! 😊

    Great video thank you! My puppy just turned 8 weeks today and I been wanting a Kong, now I know how to try it, he’s small, he’s a beat but he’s smart! Had him 6 days and he can already sit, paw, leave it is hit or miss, started him crate training yesterday and leash training today, he doesn’t like the leash much yet but loves the crate to play in with some positive reinforcement! Ima try a Long to keep him busy as he’s hyper and a biter!

      If you don't mind buying more than one, you could start with a medium size Kong that your pup migh learn to enjoy easier than a super chewer one. Remember, make it easy for your puppy to get the food out etc to create a positive association with the toy. Good luck.

      If your puppy can play with the Kong, the larger size should work for him. Be sure to keep it easy for your puppy to build up the positive experience. If you make it too hard too soon, he'll give up. Good luck.

      A larger Kong will last longer which can have its own benefits.

    I heard the small kongs are better for puppy teeth?

    • @EverythingDog
      @EverythingDog  Год назад

      The color of the kong determines how soft or hard it is. Puppy Kongs tend to be small (obviously) and light blue or pink and soft. You can certainly start with these, but as the puppy grows be sure to adjust the size of the kong.

      We use a baby bottle brush and the dishwasher. Our dogs use their kongs weekly, so we clean them as needed.

    Great video, I always thought a dog should never be left in a crate, other than when in transit or being transported. Doesn't a crate cause anxiety, being trapped in a crate, if there's a break in, fire or just someone knocking on your door and your dog feels trapped in a small cage ? I can understand sometimes if you're home with the dog and you have guests, who maybe scared of dogs, or allergic to dog hairs, but if you live alone & something happens ie..accident or long delay, they can't even get to help themselves to water or food, it may all seem a bit pessimistic, but going out leaving a dog behind, helplessly in a small cage/crate, is awful in my opinion and I just wouldn't do it. People may say yeah but my dog chews the house up, then even an outdoor kennel or shed to go in for shelter if it rains is better in an enclosed secure gated or fenced back garden. Just saying, no offence meant, maybe you can tell me different, but that's always been my take on these things. Thankyou for the video.

      Glad you liked the video. Crate use is a personal decision and clearly you have a negative association with leaving a dog crated in the house. Id prefer my dog be inside and crated than outside...personal choice. Some dogs have anxiety about being left alone and others can be claustrophobic. Personal choice. No right or wrong.

      I totally agree, dog proof your house instead, imagine going several hours for work and then leaving your dog locked in a tiny, prison create without nothing to do for several hours, just torture and animal abuse (I think it's even illegal where I live). Of course good to train your dog to have a special area, like a crate as example but that's different from locking them up all alone for several hours.

    Should I get medium or large size for 2 months old lab puppy?

    • @EverythingDog
      @EverythingDog  Год назад +1

      You could get a medium now knowing you'll need the larger one as the pup gets bigger. Or you could just buy the larger one now. Your puppy may not be able to pick it up, but he can learn to roll it around. Have fun.

    How long should I use only the kibble before introducing some peanut butter?

    • @EverythingDog
      @EverythingDog  Год назад +1

      Laura, there is no set time, it really depends on your dog's ability to work for food. If he's easily frustrated introduce the peanutbutter (ore cream cheese) gradually. Once he's a champ, freeze them and/or put in other boxes. Have fun with it.

    My puppy has been having a hard time eating his hard food once he came but at breeders house he ate it fine, do you think using a kong will help him to eat more? If i add peanut butter or something?
    I want him on a schedule also but he never eats when I put the food out. So i have been letting him approach his food whenever (which is not good)

    • @EverythingDog
      @EverythingDog  Год назад

      Shanttal, depending on the age of your puppy, you'll have to be careful what you "stuff" it with. You don't want to upset the pup's tummy. Wet dog food works, whipped cream cheese used lightly. A kong adds a level of challenge because we are asking the dog/puppy to use his brain to solve the puzzle. I would leave the food availabel to the puppy for 15-20 mintes at the longest, then pick it up until the next feeding. Dogs will not starve themselves.

      My dog is the same way. I let his hard food soak in water to get soft. I let it soak in a big mixing bowl. Then I drain it and smash it up with a potato smasher. Hard food makes my dog throw up. He's been doing fine with his food being soaked in water and made soft. I keep it in a big container or Ziploc bag in the fridge.

    How do you handle Kong feeding if you have 2 dogs? Do they need to be separated or do you find if they each have their own that they focus on theirs?

    • @EverythingDog
      @EverythingDog  2 года назад +1

      This will depend on your individual dog's personality. I always separate our dogs just so each dog can enoy their Kong without worry of competition and then I know how much each dog has eaten. Good for you for feeding out of a kong.
