Becker BK7 Long Term Review

  • In this video I review the famous Becker Knife and Tool BK 7 combat knife. I have had this knife for a long time since I was still young in the Marines, roughly 10 years now. This knife has proven tried and true to me and is the standard I hold most other knives to. I originally carried a USMC Kabar but I wanted something much more robust, this was the knife I chose, which also lead me to my fascination with more knives and bushcraft in general.

    Once you get a good set of handles it's a really well made knife. The stock handles aren't the worst, but I tend to lose all grip when my hands get damp or sweaty. That said the blade itself is excellent. Not the best on the market, but for the money I think it's definitely a worth it purchase IMO.

    I fell in love with the Becker knives. Just recently bought a Bk2, loved it so much I went ahead and ordered a Bk10. Now I want the 7 and 9.😂 Can't do it right now and might skip the 7 because I already have an Esse 6 for that size. That polished blade looks amazing and calling that nub an attitude readjustment tool is some straight Marine shit.

    I hated the thumb ramp, so I took it off. I hated the coating, so I took it off. I hated how slippery the scales were, so I stippled them. Now I love the knife. And the big brother BK9. Now I just need to make better sheaths for both. Good to see a long term review instead of just chopping a couple of branches like most reviewers.

    I went with the g10 scales vs micarta. Micarta soaks up bacteria and microbes. Stripped the blade, but left the coating on the handle portion. Extra protection. Plus, upgraded the hardware to nylock stainless steel screws with red loctite.👍

    I prefer a SP5. I don’t like how Becker sells a knife for top dollar. Then charges money for a decent sheath and grips. The Ontario cost $44 even buying a sheath I’m still way under Becker price. My other most used knife is Kabar cutless machete.
    Really 99.9 % of my tasks in the woods are done with my Mora Garberg I got it on sale for$55. The other knife I use is Hultafor ok4 best $20 ever.
    Really I prefer a machete for chopping I don’t chop much that’s more like a RUclips thing . A saw makes things much easier.

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  Год назад +2

      I find it depends on where/what if I chop or saw. Obviously a saw is best when you can but I’ve had situations where I do have to chop it down. That said I almost always use an axe if I have one. For the knife I like testing potential. The SP5 looks good for the money

    • @glbwoodsbum2567

    The only thing I don't really like about the Beckers compared to esee 6 is the look and skeleton handle. The choil not being on a Becker doesn't bother me too much. The Becker is a way better batoner and stabber.

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  8 месяцев назад +1

      They really are two different kind of knives. The becker is geared being a combat/survival knife while the esee 6 is more of a dedicated survival knife. the skeletonized tang does help it feel a bit better balanced and I've never seen anyone with with structural issues.

    Obviously its a tried and true and very capable multi purpose knife. However...what I don't like about it is that it seems light and too big for common uses. For a chopper I want it beefy and hefty, like a Junglass. For a bushcrafter or skinner, I want it small and compact. The BK7 is neither. It could do all, but do none very well.

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  4 месяца назад

      It’s a great size for that reason. Having a Junglas on your belt especially if you going full gear and kit is awkward. This is still very capable but still manageable on your belt

    Lots of people trash talk 1095. But there are so many videos with 1095 handling major abuse. Meanwhile, most "supersteel" loving enthusiasts just show their supersteel knives fresh out of the box and refuse to abuse them in any way.

      I like a super steel but that said I’m not going to discount a good ole carbon steel that’s been around for decades or hundreds of years either. I personally like 1095 when it’s done right
