    Dude I finally just bought the Becker BK9. I should have bought one years ago. I too have favored the ESEE Junglas for a long while. Along with the Tahoma field knife. And I hate to say it but the BK9 just bumped the TFK out of 2nd place. I am so impressed with this BK 9. And I fully intend to customize mine. Thanks for the info. Hang tough.

    Got this knife a few weeks ago, what a beast, best big knife for the dollar out the IMHO. I kept the zombie green scales, just added a ranger band over the handle so it's grippier and not as green :). Love, love, love this knife, and all Beckers for that matter!

    Sweet! I modded the heck out of my bk9 striped the coating, got my grandfather to blue the blade, grinded of the thumb ramp and the little bit of metal that sticks out at the handles, g10 handle scales from the knife connection, a 90 degree spine on the first 5 inches of the spine and obviously a kydex sheath. Great video (like always) great knife!

    I am going to gring off the thumb ramp and bead blast my BK9 then duracoated it in satin clear coat, I added some Micarta Grips and I am looking for a Kydex sheath I will check out Red Feather. The nice thing about a production knife is if you happen to break or lose it, you will still have the sheath (assuming you don't lose it as well) so all you have to do is replace the knife and scales

    Another great review. I also have the BK9 with upgraded micarta handles. It’s a beauty and my favorite overnight bushcraft knife. If I’m just going out for a day hike w/ lunch, I’ll probably take my Mora. One thing that shocks me is why Ka-bar markets the 39 with cheap scales and sheath. If they are going to make modest changes with the coating and the lazar engraving, why not go all the way with the scales and custom sheath? I think the BK39 has had disappointing sales because many people like me have opted to upgrade the BK9 such as you did. I think Ka-bar has made a huge marketing blunder.

    That looks awesome! I have LMF's camo micarta scales on my Camillus BK9 and they look and feel incredible, even better than the Ka Bar micarta scales on my Ka Bar BK2 ( in my opinion ) because the edges of the holes for the mounting hardware feel chamfered or rounded and not a sharp 90 degree edge, which is really noticeable with my fingertips. Joe at LMF Knives really is a nice guy, too. Great vid, Aaron, Thumbs up!

    I bought Caroline (bk-9) a year or two ago and have done intense work with her. She is easily the best money I have ever spent. I am going replace the handle and strip the black powder coat that she comes with. I highly recommend purchasing one if you want an amazing knife.

    Just a quick update from a year ago: Overall very happy with what I received several months back when my order came in. No complaints about the sheath. It's just excellent. Bought the BK from the custom sheath-maker at the same time. Was disappointed that it was a BK39 instead of the BK9 I had ordered.
    Naturally I was upset. That was on top of a longer wait due to wanting the optional micarta scales from Kabar. (Honestly, the stock Grivory handles are just moronic. They really are. In fact, let's call them what they are.... Cheap, shallow, hollowed out plastic that's been molded and smoothed out beyond anything useful.) My sheath was apparently ready weeks earlier. But it took that long to get the micarta scales in, so they could be fitted to the knife.
    A quick email revealed that the custom-maker had gotten overwhelmed with orders. Admitted to being overworked, and apologized for the mistake. Although angry at first, I accepted his apology. He promised to make things right.
    Due to a situation I'd rather not get into, I decided to keep the BK39 with micarta scales, and simply bought a BK9 and ordered a new set of micartas off Amazon. Then attached them myself. Hey, nothing wrong with having a back-up chopper.
    Again, the sheath is top notch. Definitely recommended. If you're buying one of the knives on his website along with a custom sheath for it, I do suggest sending out a reminder email before your order ships. Just to make sure everything is spot-on.

    Nice review, very informative. But apart from the grips and the blade coating there's not really much of difference between the BK9 & BK39. Good knives for general use in the great outdoors!

  • @NGMonocrom
    @NGMonocrom 7 лет назад +2

    Placed my order for both a BK9 with Becker Micarta scales and the same sheath system (different colors) with Red Feather before going to bed last night. Overall, a sweet deal. The online shop I normally go to had the stock BK9 at a ridiculously over-inflated price.

      Normally, it's very difficult for me to take a chance on small online shops. Yes, I've been cheated out of my money in the past. But, I have noticed that this channel is more honest in its reviews than literally any other one of the other POPULAR channels on youtube that test similar products.
      Not that they're dishonest nor disingenuous. Most of them do a good job in their reviews. But this channel seems to mention negatives that the others sometimes don't, or perhaps downplay a bit. It's just nice being able to get the gear I want without worrying if I'll get screwed over. Thanks for that.

    Not for me, but I do agree that the BK9 is a heck of deal for a whole lot of very solid knife, & it's set up so well for after-market customizing. Personally, if I ever have one of these fall into my lap...well, first, I'm visiting the ER, and then the very first mod I'm performing is a quick visit to Mr. Grinder to wipe out what never should have been there in the 1st place - that ramp/jimping. I'm a bit surprised you didn't choose to do that with this one...& again, just speaking personally, it's leather or bust for me on ALL of my knives, no exceptions...& my leather guy can get a nice 2-toned & tooled L. sheath of this size to me in 10 days for $40, so that would be a no-brainer for me....though I of course get why you & many others prefer Kydex....you're just wrong, & less manly than I am. I do love that long, straight cutting edge....its cutting edge is one of the very best/most useful in the knife kingdom, & at 3/16", it doesn't make the mistake of being overly thick. Another great vid, have a wonderful weekend brother!!

    • @akeeperofoddknowledge4956
      @akeeperofoddknowledge4956 8 лет назад +1

      +faultroy ; It amazes me how people will
      mod the beck out of their Beckers and claim what fantastic knives they are ( and I don't doubt that they are), but by the same token they will leave an Ontario knife ( the RTAKII comes to mind) totally stock, complain about the handle scales ( they do need work) and sell the knife. They won't spend one minute or one red cent modding an Ontario knife even though they admit that the blades are excellent.
      They remind me of Glock fan boys. ( for the record, I own a BK Becker knife and 2 Glock pistols).

    • @akeeperofoddknowledge4956
      @akeeperofoddknowledge4956 8 лет назад

      +faultroy ; Thanks for the reply. Yes, I agree that collectors and users will often prefer different setups, and that users only know what they need or want after some experience with whatever gadget or device in question. And Aaron definitely has lots of experience and that is why I value his opinion. He came up with a really nice setup that he is justifiiably proud of. My comments were made mostly out of observation of a lot of KA-Bar Becker owners who will buy a BK7 or a BK9 and remove everything that makes those knives distinctive. They will grind off the thumb ramp, add a choil, reprofile the grind, refinish the blade and swap out the scales. Then they will exclaim what amazing knives they are!
      Uh, okay.

    Thats an awesome rig bud! For the price, its still not bad. Most knives come with a crappy nylon sheath, I wish most companies would offer a kydex or leather at buyers option, but at least this allows other businesses to make money like our custom leather and kydex guys. KaBar should ditch those scales they use on their Becker line, they should use tpe or micarta, be worth the few extra dollars. Wilson tape makes for a cheap temporary fix. Awesome review, keep up the good work!

    #gideonstactical Do you know if they have stopped producing the BK39? Seems to be out of stock everywhere I look, so I'm guessing it was a limited run back when you made this video.

      +BOOSTEDLASER Still the Brila for small/Lightweight use. The Streamlight Siege in AA is my favorite for car camping and the UCO Clarus is my favorite AAA one.

    Hey Arron I would love to see you review the Condor Moonstalker, especially with a big market of large sized blades oit there at a large size price . The Condor Moonstalker and Moonshiner both are cool solid blades and way cheap for what you get. Anyways I think it would be cool to see your opinion of a poor man's goto knife that doesn't need to be upgraded much. The Moonstalker comes with canvas micarta scales and a thick nylon sheath but the shiner comes with their beautiful leather sheaths.
    Here's to hoping :-D

    That sheath is killer. I like my Bk 9 better than my Junglas as well. But like the Junglas sheath better. I feel like the Junglas has a bit more hand shock, and the blade seems to " Ching Ching Ching " to much. The best though, is one in each hand, lol. Nice video as always.

    Among Becker fans, its called "The King". And for a very good reason!

    Must not have been able to compete with the original bk-9. Now showing discontinued on Amazon and at Midway (2-13-18). Love the idea of a bk-9 with a clear coat handle. Not sure I want to purchase and put in the work of taking off the black powder coat.

      Out of the box the ESEE, tricked out...I think the Becker.
