Ive been sailing for 30 years, started as a 14 year old. There’s nothing like that magical moment when you switch off the engine and the wind takes over. Congratulations.
Now you know some of the basics, the next step is to go dinghy sailing. Everything happens faster and more frequently and is great fun. When I was teaching, part of the curriculum was dinghy sailing with eleven year old kids. A bit of theory and a lot of practice turned the kids into very competent skilled sailors. When does Alba get her mast and sails?
Absolutely loved this video. We're new to the channel and have just bought a 67" wide beam, moored just off the Thames, and near the Kennet and Avon entrance and we can't wait to go cruising/sailing/canalling - whatever you inlanders call it!😂 As old Gits, I'm sure we're an outlier in your demographic, but as true water rats its wonderful to see you doing your competent crew. We did ours in a force 8 in the Solent in what seems like 1836 now!! - frightening and wonderful at the same time!!! Great memories and wonderful to see you guys doing it in Greece 👍 We've have/had boat shares in Greece/Turkey and the BVI for many years and so appreciate the absolute pleasure you will have had in Greece - truly awesome 🤗 For us, 2020 was a career killer and so without looking back in anger its time for a new chapter and we're looking forward to some 2021 Widebeam Narrow-Boating action this summer!? 🥴 The fear of f*cking up big league is certainly there and alive and well through, so any advice for us grumpy greying old inland novices would be very much appreciated 👍
Hey new friends, welcome to the channel, so glad you’ve found us!!! Thanks you for your kind words and thanks you for taking the time to introduce yourselves, we love finding out more about our community 💜 congratulations on the new boat, what an exciting time for you! We remember stepping on Alba two years ago exactly right now, it was so incredible exciting! Glad to hear you guys went sailing too, we would love to do some more of that once we life settles down a bit. We hope you’d stick around to follow our adventure and perhaps see you on the water some time 💜 big hugs xx
It really important to make mistakes. That’s where you learn! Dont be to precious with your lovely new boat they are designed to bump into things at 3mph all be it! Have fun and keep the thirst for adventure
Lovely vlog, brought back happy memories, we chartered in Greece back in the 80s, had a brilliant time, then owned a boat based on the Solent, now content spending time on our narrowboat.
I'm sitting here in Suffolk and it's snowing outside. Watching this vlog has taken me to another world and I can feel the sun on my skin and salt on my lips. Amazing what a whisky mac can do !
Oh watching this made me jealous.... no sailing for me last year. But I am glad you enjoyed this experience. Best moment of sailing: you are out of the marina or wherever, your sails are up and you turn off the engine. Pure bliss 😍😍😍😍😍
Brilliant, a bit of sun when its freezing outside. I spend a lot of time in Greece and know the Ionian well, although I can't get there at the mo you made me think of all those special moments I have had cruising the beautiful islands. Thank you. Bear xx
Fantastic hugely jealous. I used to sail 50 years ago. I have had my narrowboat 5 years now and just boasting a teeny bit my floor looks identical to the floor in that yacht. Hardly surprising though as it was built by a Chinese yacht builder! I love your videos.
Thanks that brought back some great memories we did a few flotilla sailing holidays in the late 70s early 80s. They were wonderful glad you got to have that experience.
Lovely to see what you got upto on your summer break. I bet you appreciate it more than ever now, with the current situation. Hope you stick with Alba and don’t run away to sail foreign shores xx
As an "old salt" with many years sailing under my belt, and having followed your journey on Alba, I was so glad to see you trying out this waterborne option. I was in no doubt at the beginning of the video that you would enjoy it. Congratulations to you both on passing your RYA Competent Crew course and good look with the next one, ("Day Skipper", I think).
Amazing record of an amazing experience 👏 loved the shy sky analogy! You both looked naturals at sail. BTW your music features so many songs from my current playlists so loving the music too 👍👌
Thanks for that wonderful vlog. It brings back memories of our vacation to Kassiopi way back in 83-84-85? It was around the time that they had filmed a Bond movie not far from there. We did not have the money to do sailing then, it was more of a get a way to the sun type holiday. I remember that our little villa had beautiful lemon trees outside and a donkey. Food was fantastic. Grats on your crew sailing credentials.
Lucky you! Corfu and the Greek Islands are beautiful. How did you feel about being so close to people with the pandemic still around? Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventure; the views and the sky are beautiful.
This is becoming one of my favourite channels on RUclips, I’d like the chance to have a private discussion with you guys regarding boat life , me and my family have been boating for some years , my children are at an age where it’s not for them anymore, me and my wife have discussed many many times about just going for it in a few years, we’ve potentially found the boat but would really like to have the chance to chat with you guys about it
Talk to as many people as possible but buy a boat. I have had mine for 5 years and I am absolutely hooked. I should have done it years ago, I am 74 but hopefully I have a good few years in me yet. The kids (they are both 40 plus) think I'm mad. .
"You went sailing"!!!! How awesome of you guys getting to see the water from my view...I betcha fell in love once the Main was hoisted...So proud of you, getting your sea legs takes a wee bit of getting use to. Fins Up Guys xxxx.. ( sent you a message about getting the syrup to you).

Hi Marina Myles, wow what a experience it looked lovely well done for doing this ,did you say you went in September? We’ll take care keep safe John 🌹🌹🥂🥂🥳🥳🍻🍻
Great to see you guys enjoying and sailing Greece, I was lucky enough to live and sail around the islands for a couple of years. Really looking forward to sailing Snoqualmie back there, hopefully this summer visa/covid allowing 😀
So cool to see you on a new adventure like the videos. OH happy early birth day to you Myles in a couple of days .Ihave one this Sunday. You two stay safe on your travels.
What a wonderful video. This is something dream holidays are made of! Who wouldn’t love this...It looks like you both loved it. Can you see yourselves moving to a sailboat at sometime in the future?
Here's a suggestion, you guy's come sailing in Greece with my partner Svetlana and I, and we will come cruising on the canals with you onboard Alba. :-)
Good morning from Nz. New channel name "Sailing Alba.?" Curious and I may have missed something, but did you not have to do quarantine.? Good to see you guys getting your vitamin D....so where to from here.?
Hi Bryan, thank you for watching ☺️ This was filmed in September and there were no quarantine requirements at that time, we did daily temp and blood oxygen tests though. No plans on leaving Alba, but we will probably do another course to get the full license this or next year perhaps.
@@CruisingAlba ok so wherever you go, I'll be there. Oops sorry that sounds creepy, but you know what I mean. Love your channel guys. Take care and stay safe. Atb.

how long before you make the transition from alba to sailing around the world now you have the bug.....
Thanks for the preview.
Can the ALBA cruise outside of the canals?
Yes Alba can go on the rivers but not out to sea 💜 xx
Ya won the lottery?
Love sailing but do Bob about a lot lol
Where do you work if you do work
It was not the boat
Never buy a Bavaria you will regret it. Poor quality. There are better boats that will suite you.
