  • We have just completed a short video trailer for The National Trust's Tyntesfield estate near Bristol to promote their Victorian themed Christmas event that runs throughout December. The short Christmas promo was directed by the National Trust's Sally Doran and was only made possible by the close cooperation and inexhaustible enthusiasm of the house staff and volunteers. Thanks to everyone who contributed to its huge success on Facebook from the production team.

    Wow! I used to ride horses on this estate in the 80's. The horses were owned by a couple of lovely ladies who lived at Belmont, a mansion just up the lane from Tyntesfield on the same estate. I would often ride past the main house and see his lordships car in the drive and I'd nosily look down into the gardens as I rode past wishing I could explore further. Happy memories!

    Charming video - but the hairstyles on at least three of the women are clearly 21st century and this really jars with the Victorian atmosphere they're trying to create! (A couple of hair pieces would have sorted that out.)

    Agree @ the hairstyles, and a few other small historical things, but you work with what you've got on the day you shoot, lol. I think it turned out WONDERFUL!!! I loved the slowing it down, I loved the feeling of being there and *watching over their shoulders*, but also interacting with some of the characters. I thought the following around and transfer from servant to servant to advance the story was very smoothly done. I watched it 3xs and then was looking around to see where I could find more done like this! :D (Its very much what I imagine my own personal holodeck to be like, lol. ;P) Who DOESN'T wish they could peek in on history!??? 😁

    Victorian gentry had class, even their servants had class in the way they walked and acted. Sure this showed dressed up people in the Victorian ish style, yet did not have the feel at all.

      Did you even look at period postcards or artifacts? Could less time have been devoted to decorating? The tree lights aren't even accurate. They would have had every archway decked, and greenery all around.

      The ceiling, stand and table lamps are probably only electric too. It irks to see antique oil lamps violated, as I call it, by converting them to electricity.

    I'm really into Victorian times in fact I sometimes feel I should have been born in those times but it was for most people a brutal existence, life spans were short, no social security, no NHS, and the distribution of wealth was so unequal it was obscene.

    Nice video. As a person who loves all things Christmas, l can't help but notice that no one in the UK seems to know how to properly put lights on a tree. They always look randomly placed and not evenly distributed among the branches. They look like they are just wrapped haphazardly around the tree. It really takes away from the beauty of the decor.

    Great single take video, I didn't spot a single cut. Was this filmed with a steadicam?

    • @colinriddle
      @colinriddle  4 года назад +2

      It was indeed shot as one single take with a Steadicam mounted DSLR. It was director Sally Doran's idea to shoot at two times normal speed and slow the footage down to 25fps in post production to give it a more ethereal feel. It was shot in one evening after the house closed and ran I think to about 20 takes. Colin Riddle Producer.

      @@colinriddle I'm sure it was no easy task to coordinate all of that. I bet the staff had great fun that evening performing in front of the camera. Long takes are pretty popular at the moment, Sam Mendes certainly likes using them. Glad you got to make this before coronavirus arrived in the UK.

    • @lw3646

      The Victorians did use lots of candles yes but most of them used gas lamps for their homes. Tyntesfield was one of the first private houses in the country to have electric lights installed, long before the National Grid was created.
