They had the perfect shoe in the Evo Speedgoat and discontinued it and then keep making unwanted and unneeded changes to the base model hopefully the 7 gets fixed correctly and doesn't take 2 years to arrive.
How is the durability in km/miles? The outsole? How is the cushioning? My experience with the V5 was that the outsole were very worn after max.350-400km and the cushioning was completely unusable after 450km. It's great that you show used shoes and not just new ones like other RUclipsrs. It gives more trust. Thank You
I’d usually get blood blisters on the instep of my foot whenever running 10+ miles in the Speedgoat 5. Hoping the tighter fit causes less rubbing and friction which should fix the problem.
I put 30 miles on a new pair of the Speedgoat 6 and then I returned them. Very firm midsole, does not have that typical marshmallow cushion of a Hoka. The tongue is way too short and not padded enough, you can feel the laces biting into the top of your foot. I don't understand why they don't make the tongue longer and padded. I've been wearing Speedgoats since version 1, and have now switched over to the Mafate Speed 4. It is much closer to the version of the Speedgoat that I thought was the best. Which would be version 2 and 3, and also the Evo Speedgoat. Maybe in the 7 they will get it right.
You mentioned the fit differences in the upper between the Speedgoat and the Mafate.. How would you say the cushioning and support varies between the two? I currently have a pair of Mafates and I love the fit but my arches get sore after trail runs longer than 8-10mi. I thought it was supposed to be well-cushioned but it rides quite firm and responsive to me. I need a more cushioned option for those long ultra days.
He did mean the Mafate Speed 4. Sorry, we corrected this in the transcript of the review published on iRunFar prior to publication, but didn't have Travis re-record the review. - Bryon
Speedgoat 5s were 💩 that was the 1 Hoka shoe I tried after years of hearing hype...all colour & platform and 💩 function. I'll take a pair of La Sportivas over Hoka all day, anyday!
That was one of the best shoe reviews I've ever seen... Diving right into all the specific details and comparing it to past versions. Thank you!
Awe thanks! I’ve been wearing this model for a while so I had a lot of previous experience (and old pairs in my garage) :)
Agreed, exactly what I was thinking while watching it.
Detailed, specific, very informative and thorough as hell.
Much appreciated.
💯
@@VUHIPHOP many thanks!!
Thanks Travis, that was great.

Thank you for the input! I hated the nrw speedgoat but loved the 5, I ended up switching to the Salomon ultra glide 2 and love it ❤

I love my SG5 but would be interesting to test the 6th version with the firmer midsole. The thing I like the most about SGs is their rock solid grip.
Agreed! The grip is fantastic.

@@beachnap the mafate is softer than this version of the speedgoat. It’s not even close in my opinion
you referenced the mafate 5, did you mean the 4 as I don't see the 5 on the Hoka website (at least not yet)?

I loved eveything about the version 5, so this seems to be the step in the wrong direction for me.

I'm glad that there are choices for us runners. I have many favourite shoes, all depending upon use case and conditions.
EVA no thanks.
