Thanks for the test! I have a Speedgoat 5 and they are a suberp road to trail shoe! You may get the feeling of tighteing the laces again after 30min, but I figured a way to avoid that: When getting in the shoes and tighten the laces, restart at the bottom and tighten close all the way up. Then, agaain! So in total: Lace your shoes 3 times and you are good for the whole run. Else, if the steep downhils are comming after 30min+ you may feel loose in the shoes. Also, I have 90kg ;) The Speedgoat 6 is suppose to fix that, also be a bit firmer and, as you said, improve longevity. Also the outsole pattern has changed, incl a few small lugs at the lateral front i believe? Anyway: First ijmpressions of Speedgoat 6 the testers said that it was stiff and dull, but overall the feeling inside the shoe feels like the Speedgoat. Yourn review makes it sound as the updates are so small, that you don't really have to think about it. What is the "objective" truth now? And that a Speedgoat is still a Speedgoat and not a Bananaboat should be clear ;) EDIT: Ah, and as for my second trail or road to trail shoe I eye the Asics Fuji Lite 4. maybe give this a look? :)
I really enjoy your road shoe reviews. However, I think your trail shoe tests would benefit from being conducted on more challenging terrain. While I understand the limitations of filming, testing these shoes on technical trails would provide viewers with a better understanding of their performance in real-world conditions.
Yes - I was particularly disappointed with the first reviewer who disnt seem to test it on what could be called real trail conditions and who seemed far more interested in the upper of the shoe rather than how it actually performed as a trail;shoe
i dread model "upgrades". im a longtime speedgoat user. the 5's are the best of all time of them. i do not want a narrower shoe. gonna have to stockup on 5's.
@@hikesteepfishhigh I don't think it is narrower. Actually the little toebox is reshaped, saving the little toes. Maybe it got shorter vs SG⁵ so try to size up a half? By the way, are you 🏃♂️ in a wide SG⁵?
Would be interesting to hear how it compares to the Hoka Mafate Speed 4, as that’s what I have currently, so considering the SG6 as a possible follow on. For reference I run around hilly Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District, and stepping up to ultra distances now, with the UTS 50k booked for next May 😅 Cheers - love the channel & podcast!
I suggest you watch the SG6 review on the "Conversational Pace" channel. They have a lot more to say about the SG6 and compare it to other options such as the Mafate. Personally I'd say stick with the Mafate. I have that and the SG5 and there's really no scenario in which I prefer the Speedgoat.
@@ThatFlowState Just watched it - very helpful vid. I think you’re right - the Mafate seems to be the one to stick with for long days in the mountains. Although the Merrell Agility Peak 5 is also coming up quite a lot in comments - maybe that’s worth a try…? Cheers for the tip 👍
@@tomwoollard glad it helped. I've not tried the Agility Peak 5 but I'm curious especially as they are available for a good price. Loyd Purvis from Run4Adventure is a big fan if you want to watch another review.
@@ThatFlowState yeah Run4Adventure is great, I think that’s what finally edged me to pick up the Mafate’s - pretty sure I’ve seen his review on the Merrell’s, but will give it another watch as a refresher. Mafate’s are still going strong though, so let’s see if another contender comes up in the meantime. Thanks for your help :)
It's really strange how little difference did you notice vs v5? The most crucial area - dead midsole. You were very kind about it. Another, nice change this time - more round toe box. Why not mentioning the feature that will crush my little toes a little less! That feature will not save the SG6. Midsole + outsole is way better in Mafate. SG like this is not a trail king anymore... 😕
@ nah not wide enough. Feels ok in store but I own the wide and after running anything more than 10 miles you get massive blisters. Toe box just is not good enough for some folks. Hoka is for narrow feet. I went with some Topo shoes and no blisters
Thanks for the test!

I have them in wide and the fit is superb, better than the 5's wide version. The midsole spreads out after some miles tough
Some have said the new midsole is dead/ uncomfortably firm, uncharacteristic for a SG. Have you found that to be true?

Been wearing SG 4 - 5 for years, but my new SG 6 in my opinion has drastically changed in comfort. They took a good thing and made it bad.
Just too firm? How is the firmness compared with comparable shoes from Saucony, Brooks etc??

For mine, I'd love to see a comparison with the New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro v8

You’ve got one of the best imo mafates are so good!
Tecton x 2 now on sale is close in price to speedgoat 6. Love to see what you pick between these 2?
Does the vibram grips squeek on city roads? I do a mix of hiking and inner city walking.

Midsole is really that bad? It doesn't soften top after a month of use?
Have you tried the Saucony Hurricane yet if so your thoughts
Def go up half a size, I got us12 and hey are much shorter than SG5. Im sending mine back to Hoka :(
Is it me or is the grip on wet super slippery?
I took Speedgoat 5 for my vaccation mostly for walking and it was not comfortable and after 2 months outsole was completely flattened.
Design wise, they really make an effort to outdo Nike in ugliness.
Too narrow ugh
There is a wide option that seems fine. I tried one in the store and it more than accommodated my very wide splaying feet/higher arches.

your big toes will be through thevfabric after less than 50k Leather only please !!!
