I love those conversational pace fellas
Appreciate you watching!
the vibe of this channel is unmatched in the running shoe nerd domain
One of the highest compliments we could receive. Many thanks! 🙏
Great review as always! I have been binge watching your back catalog of videos as I recently discovered your channel. The back and forth conversation is so easy to listen to and a great way to get your varied thoughts on a shoe or topic. I have been a fan of Finn on Run to the Top Podcast for years so am glad to hear his voice here as well as see his face along with a new face in Brett! 😎
Thanks so much for watching, and glad you found the channel!
The dirty gym sock colorway is legit, I love an understated yet horrible colorway.
I am wearing the dirty gym sock colorway right now. Thanks for helping me come out as a bland ugly shoe lover
😂😂😂
I back this take
Don’t know if y’all have looked into Asics’ newer TR versions of their shoes but I love the novablast TR for what it is, a road to light trail shoe that moves. It is definitely not for tech, but perfect for fire roads and a great single shoe to travel with! Check them out!
Yes That's right the Novablast TR would 100% be in the conversation of a road shoe tuned just ever so slightly for trail. Definitely will have to check them out!
I started doing trail runs in the original cloud monster and it was surprisingly amazing. Especially going down hill. Worked great until the gravel sized rocks creased the pods into oblivion which only took around 50 miles of mostly up/downhill running
I loved the cloudmonster on the trails. I didn't take them on much rock, but I can see how the pods would wear out pretty quickly. Would love to see a cloudmonster trail some day
Finn: Merrell Long Sky 2! Or Speedland GS:TAM or its progeny. Last weekend I raced the Wild Canyon 50 K in Salomon S/Lab Pulsar 3, which was superb, and won the Grand Master’s. The Genesis would also be terrific, as you point out, beyond 50 K. But keep in mind that overly soft shoes such as the Mafate Speed 4 don’t work for me. Good luck! Hydrate!
I think the Hydrate part is the best advice for Finn 😂
Throw on shoe Salomon Glide Max TR. Just ordered TNF 500 following your review.
I've enjoyed the Altamesa 500 more than the Glide Max TR. There was just a bit too much underfoot feel in the TR for me
La sportiva Prodigio would be a great next review. I hear rumblings of Speedgoat Evo comparisons.
We've got the Prodigio in for test! I've only run in it once. Got zero Evo Speedgoat vibes. Maybe it'll start to come out more in a few more runs. Stay tuned!
Finn, that colorway is bbq dad shoe colors.😅 gives that Salomon Glide Max TR dad shoe vibe 😂
another one for the retirement home 😂
A conversational pace fight club !!!!!!
Every time I see an On trail shoe I think of gravel or mud getting stuck in the midsole channels and instantly I despise the cloud design (which I think from day one is just a design gimmick). And then I just enjoy my good-working mud-proof conventional shoe while I’m grinding through the mud or jump from rock to rock. They could copy Nike’s idea with the mesh covering the midsole to avoid debris getting in there but I think they’d have to come up with a fancy name first.
I have never once gotten mud or gravel stuck in the pods through the sidewalls of the shoe. I used to get stuff stuck in the bottom when there used to be much deeper channels, but their last few trail models have fully fixed that
The most obvious comparison is the Hoka Challenger. I tried the Hoka Torrent and it was too stiff for my liking. I live in Louisiana so lightweight and breathable are top priorities for me. No rocks, no technical stuff. What would you suggest? I run road in Hoka Mach 5s
This Cloudsurfer Trail could definitely be right in the conversation! I thought this shoe was fantastic on mellow trail, dirt roads, and paved roads.
Great video! Any squeaking like with the "road" version?
Just barely but only at the very end of some longer runs, but not while running. Only when walking after the run. No squeaking during an actual run though
@@ConversationalPace Thanks, so it's like the mild squeaking of the Cloud Eclipse I suppose
Does the squeak come from internally somewhere inside the shoe, or from the outsole?
@@ConversationalPace it's when the cloudtech tubes are compressed, and only with the left shoe
I'll have to take mine for another run and see if that's when my shoes make the noise. I feel like that's the same for mine though
They're super soft. But wouldn't take em to Muddy areas where full immersion will happen.
But hey .. for work. IT'S ON.
Yeah definitely a shoe that should avoid the mud for sure. Thanks for watching!
another road-to-trail shoe you two gents, or rather fellas, left out is Altra Outroad 2. I love my pair even tho it lasted only 250 miles, but maybe I'll switch. I'm def a trail runner who needs within my rotation a road to trail shoe. I hate running on pave towards the trail with thick lugs
I would love to see the Outroad get some of Altra's more premium midsole foams, and I think the fit of that shoe is fantastic.
I got the first Outroad several weeks ago cuz it was on a deep discount. Not my fav. Made me appreciate my Topos more. Topo nails the wide toe but secure heel. Plus amazing grip.
I am in the market for a new pair of the ol' faithful Mafate S4 but the latest Strata/Tech Green colourway is 🤢 gotta keep this stuff simple!
At least give us some options!
Can’t believe this is there 5th trail shoe 😳
They've definitely been improving at least. They've come a long way since their first few a few years ago

When are you going to do the king of trail shoes? The undisputed champ, Chuck Taylors 🙃
High top or low top?🤣
@@ConversationalPace hi top!! No socks!!! 🤦🏃🤣
How long till we get the genesis review?
Recording it in a few days ✌️
This or Tomir 2.0? I'm having a hard time trying to find my shoe rotation with the Kjerag.
This and the Tomir are pretty different feeling shoes. The Tomir is a bit firmer, and much more suited for technical and mountainous terrain, whereas this Cloudsurfer Trail works great as a door to trail shoe. For me, I like the Cloudsurfer paired with the Kjerag, because the Kjerag is the shoe I am choosing for more technical terrain in the mountains.
@@ConversationalPace Thanks a lot. That's super helpful!
I discovered your channel a few days ago, and I became a fan right away. You're doing fantastic! Cheers.
Glad to have ya!
How does it compare to CloudUltra 2?
Cloudultra 2 is firmer and offers better underfoot protection. Better for more pure trail. I would also say it's a bit wider and higher volume in the forefoot than this Cloudsurfer Trail
Tomir 2.0 when?
Hoping to have all the running done and ready to review in the next few weeks!
Altra Mont Blanc carbon 🏃♂️
That one is coming up soon!
wouldn't last 5 minutes in the mud in the UK! 🥴🤣 and I wonder how it would hold up against a dog bite? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 interesting review
haha yeah definitely not a mud shoe and I like to think this could be alright against a dog bite. Maybe a little dog😅
Chihuahua?
Vimazi
Fighting words!
🤣

TNF Altamesa500
Oh yeah that would be a fantastic #blowupshoe
