i had my 18 Silverado at the dealer two different times for this issue. Its only after watching this video and doing as shown in the video that fixed the issue. Mine seemed to have a fare bit of dielectric grease .I wiped down the contacts and slightly pried out the contacts so they made a better connection. So far so good.
Thank you for this vid...we had our 2015 Silverado and the headlights and taillights turned off and then the Brake, Stabilitrak, and Trailer Brake System service lights all came on. Dealer replaced body control module..30 minutes later it happened again and as soon as it got dark of course. Replaced the Trailer Brake Control Module about a week ago and haven't seen a return issue as of yet so hopefully that is what resolved it
Thanks for the info....popped mine off....took 5 min works great.....no more annoying beeps and messages on dash.....saved me a lot of frustration and money from the dealer or repair shop....I'm pretty sure they would have charged me a minimum 2hour labor charge , plus a brand new dealer part😩..... That only needed to be cleaned🤦🏿♂️.......... 👍🏿
That same fuse popped out of mine as well when I took it off!! 😅 Thanks for this, hopefully this is the fix I needed. I'll give it a month and come back with an update.
Have to say thank you. Easy tear down, clean, swipe-surface greasing and reinstall. The hardest part was removing the slider heads. (I used a pair of wide-surface pliers with a rag on each one as to not mar the surfaces.) So-far it's working fine but even if I eventually need the switch assembly, it's still a savings. Saved me $$$ (2015 Silverado 2-Dr short-box). 🙂
Can’t thank you enough, the new electronics on these trucks makes no sense to me. Got the service trailer brake warning and beeping, popped in the new module for 20 bucks in 5 minutes. Somehow it fixed the usb ports on my center console that weren’t working and my window goes up automatically again. Lmao 20 bucks to fix 3 problems
I have always wondered how those worked. I would be interested in knowing if that fixed your problem with it. And another thing how good do they work… have you ever used yours to tow a trailer. Great video thanks for sharing!
Personally when I had the issue I learned that the service notification can come up if your module under your spare tire gets dirty/caked up. Sometimes it can be fixed by washing it off clean or getting a new module. Personally Havnt had anymore issues since. These trucks are great but they do have some things that can piss owners off. Luckily RUclips has most of the answers to your problems.
I've already had the same problem I changed the module and also the one top of the spare tire and still have the same issue!! Is there another one I have to change
Great video. Just a heads up, you need to apply a thin coat of dielectric grease to the wiper surface. This will prevent corrosion as well as lubricate to avoid friction gouges on the contact surface.
Bought a 2017 60k miles and a week later the stabilitrack and trailer service warning came on and the abs light + cruise control stopped working... Ugh. Found your channel - yay! Hope I can figure this stuff out cause I like this truck. It feels like a truck - kind of clunky but in a good way. The Ram felt too much like a car. Subscribed.
Mine popped up because my battery was going out. If the PDM doesn't get enough power for all the aux connections I think it will trip a notice. Changed my battery and no more code.
Mine is doing it today and my battery is also going out. Was hard to crank this morning and then the service trailer brake light came on. I was thinking it was due to weak battery. These trucks do all kinds of weird things when the battery go out
The "service trailer break controller" screen is on. Replaced the control module seen here and the relay under the spare. How do I reset the warning to see if it's fixed? Drive it for a few miles?
Having this issue with my 2020 Silverado(when the trailer is connected). The alarm intermittently goes off.. warning me to "check trailer wiring" (Lights etc work on the trailer while this is occurring). Heading to the Chevy Dealership (for the 3rd time) tomorrow.. as the Gen.RV folks can't seem to find the problem. I will take your URL with me tomorrow and suggest they try this. I would do it myself, but my Controller is on the right side of the steering wheel on this truck and looks a bit different. I'd hate to pull apart the panel and not be able to figure it out. I'm heading on a major road trip May 10 and worried I'll have to hear that annoying warning signal for 1500 miles out then back!
Hi - Having same issue with my 2016 Silverado "check trailer wiring". I've confirmed that it is on the "truck" side not the trailer side. Dealer had my truck for 3 days, said everything was fine. They reprogrammed the trailer brake module. I brought the truck home and hooked it up to my travel trailer, it worked fine for about 3 minutes, then the message starting appearing again! Just like yours...lights, turn signals everything else works fine; just no trailer brakes. Were you able to get yours fixed?? Prior to taking it to the dealer, I replaced the trailer plug, replaced the truck plug, and also replaced the trailer brake module under the spare tire. Nothing fixed it.
I had that on my 2018, cleaned contacts in male and female plug ends, sprayed with contact cleaner and all good for a few months, now I have nothing, time to pull the controller apart in the cab
I have a 2015 that doesn’t have trailer breaking system ( there’s space for it ) can I add factory one to it or does truck need to be already wired for it?
Hello. I am Chris from Coverado, an online store that sells seat covers. We are looking for some influencers to try our new custom seat covers for Chevy Silverado. Is there any chance to work with you? Thank you!
My truck doesn’t have one installed at all. Would it work if I just bought one of these and installed it or are there other required parts for the trailer braking function to work? 2015 Silverado 2500.
Mine has this error as well as a helpful message that just says "Stabilitrack." Are the systems interconnected to where the controller could cause both errors? Weird thing is it turned the parking assist off as if I have a trailer connected.
@@andrews8722 thank you! I figured it in my case it's all the abs wire. It was chafed somehow and that frayed the wire. Fixed it and now all errors including the trailer warning are gone
My service brake system light will come on after I drive in a heavy rain. I'm thinking my problem is outside the cab. But I might try cleaning the controller like you did and see what happens.
Mine does the same things but also my abs comes up on my dash do you know anything about that and am going to order another tailer thing for it see if it will fix’s that but do you know anything about why my abs is on on my dash I got a 2018 Chevy Silverado LT z71
Mine started out with the trailer warning then all warning started going off. They at the shop replaced one front wheel hub. They apparently had diagnosed it as that. Well I'm still getting the trailer brake warnings.
Mine is going crazy right now all of a sudden. Beeping like 5-10 times in a row. I’m hoping to work on this this week and shut it off- crazy I can silence it
@@gabrielgarcia1201 I didn’t fix it. It went away on its own then intermittently returns. Sometimes beeping once, other times 5-10 times, other times the entire time I’m driving

@88heckenlively did this fix your issue
I changed the fuse and cleared the code C0110 that came up on the scanner and it went away.
Get an alignment, that fixed my stabilitrak code
Thanks keeps us posted if I worked. I never used mine and got that code before.
You said that you will leave the information for the parts, I can not find it,Where is it down below?

True. This “Service Trailer Brake System” light only occurred when vehicle battery started going out. Replaced with new battery, no more alert on HUD.
i’ll be changing both batteries and the switch and hopefully it’ll fix itself
I’m thinking this is what’s wrong with mine didn’t start to see message until truck randomly died one day and battery was going bad

Unfortunately I believe you will not have a blank harness to plug into, the only option would be aftermarket from my research.

Mine is just a button on the shift. I have the Z71 tow package
