Great guide, thanks. Just one question: I am also using shape map visual as a filter in my slicer pane. While other visuals work great, the selection I make throught the shape map visual always resets after showing/hiding slicer pane. Would you have an advice how to solve this issue?
They don't have to make slicer panel from zero each time. They can choose and copy-paste from selection panel to which page they want. But they need to work around bookmarks again unfortunately, it takes more time. Thanks for idea, why didn't I thought about background blank page which can work the same as close button. It is smart!
I use the filter page for my overarching filters, and then panels for individual pages that get their own unique filters. For the filter page, the close buttons go "back" so that it goes back to whatever page the user was on to get there..
It's March 2023, @6.08 i see that funnel action button on the top of thin dark vertical bar on left side (and PowerBI logo at the bottom). where I can buy it ? sorry if I missed where/how we created that bar Appreciate your help. Bit thanks Cube !!!!
@GuyInACube, Dear Teacher, your lessons are always interesting and helpful for my projects. Just one question, How was "Slicer Panel Button " generated, I followed all the step unfortunately I did not see this "Slicer Panel Button " after Grouping Slicers and other as a Slicer Pane.
Hello, do you put this power BI tips (2022/2023) video in a playlist where I can watch it? I am currently using Power BI for my undergraduate thesis. Thanks for the reply.
Great vide as usual. I have a question though, how this solution behaves when we use the export to Power Point or PDF option? Will the slicer panel show up in the exported file or it will not?
Great video, I implemented a bunch of slicer panel on reports, and got great feedback from user on it. The only drawback is that filter visuals allows to search by typing a value, but it does not allow Advenced Filtering… For example the user want to simply filter the field ”Description” of a Dimenton to filter only the lines that contains the value ”screw”. In that case filter pane is the only option I found. Will jump in the roof the say microsoft will add an advance filter option in the filter visual. ;)
I may be misunderstanding - but could you solve by turning on search in the slicer? (Hover and select the ellipsis "more options" once the Slicer is on the canvas, click first option to enable Search.) Hope that helps.
There are nuances between slicers and Filters. Filters within the filter pane do add additional capabilities that aren't present in the slicer from a ui configuration. You can accommodate some of it via measures and Visual level filters, but that could become complicated for someone that doesn't necessarily understand DAX. It's great feedback.
@Guy in a Cube updated slicer panel looks nice. Adding the full page button to click out of the slicer panel will it not affect the interaction with the visuals on the page?
For those Wondering, the panel he put on the left side of the Bi where the slicer button is placed is simply either an image or inserted objects he placed there. From the image be placed the blank buttons
Thanks for the great video. I created a slicer panel and it works great except when someone clicks on the slicer background (blue area instead of the slicers) then it gets glitchy. It would then just show the slicer background then then the user would have to click outside of the area for the slicer to work again. Do you know how I can fix that? Thanks!
I like this a lot. I have one issue. The moment the user opens the Slicer Panel, the current filter selections are reset. The user then makes the selections and closes the pane. That all goes well. But again, when the user opens the panel, selections are reset again. Is that common?
I have a chart with data. There is a slicer for the chart that filters data by date. Can I create a single-selection filter that will automatically be set to the most recent date?
I got this sync slicers thing but I have a scenario that i need year slicer sync to all pages except one who needs year slicer to be selected particularly for that page.. so i tried to sync that one page slicer to only that page but it's not seem to be working.. the selections there would act for the other slicer(which is for all other pages).. could u tell me what can be done?
Why selecting one of the slicer from slicer panel and clicking on edit interactions and none on a visual does not disable that slicers effect on that visual?
I like content and usability for the products I will be working on! I am curious why do you changed power bi color to green ? is the any hidden co-excel agenda ?

Hi guys thanks for the video I'm having an issue with a slicer panel when I update one of the bookmark the one to open the pan it also update the one who open the panel I don''t understand why. If you can help tanks in advance.
If I had to make a guess, it may be because you aren't using the "selected visuals" option of the bookmark, and/or it wasn't updated correctly with the selected visuals. That part can be a bit tedious.

I always use a slicer page because a slicer pane is hard to maintain. I would love to display the slicer page in a clickable tooltip which may popup hovering a button. May be one day
I kinda like more idea of dedicated page for filters. I already new this trick with side bar navigation and if you have multiple pages it's pain to make any changes like adding new slicer ale moving already existing ones and if you want this side bar on every page you have to set up bookmarks on every single page so that's bummer. Cool video though!
Struggling to solve a filter selection problem. Here's my problem statement: Let's say, I have 2 filters, country and order_dt. I always want the country slicer to show all countries in the list but only the respective order_dt for the country and the visuals should change according to these 2 filter selections. Hence, I used edit interactions to not let ord_dt filter my country slicer. Now, when I have selected a country (ex: US) and ord_dt (ex: 13th Feb, 2022), the visuals change accordingly but now when I change the country to say, UK- all my visuals go blank because I don't have an ord_dt= 13th Feb, 2022 for UK. Is there a way to automatically select another ord_dt which is available for UK instead of sticking to the one which was selected for US previously? This is resolved only when I manually select another date.
Really hope someone is still reading these comments: What if I wanted to break out into two pages and use the same Slicer Panel? Is that possible? For example, Page 1 has three categories filtered in the slicer, and Page 2 would have three different categories filtered. Or would I have to create a separate panel for that?
I really like the idea of the page wide button to close. But... If you had the button over the whole page, how can users still interact with visuals? Like for selecting a date point in one visual to filter or highlight data in other visuals?
The button is grouped with the Slicer Pane group, so once the slicer pane is closed, the button is hidden and will not impact the regular use of the report.
I would like to see Microsoft build the ability to have multiple slicers in sort of a tree structure. Not referring to hierarchy in the slicer, but the reality is that many data sets have 10+ fields that someone may want to filter on. Right now you have two options of either building a sliver page and taking up that real estate or using the filter tab, which I have found people don’t want to use or it just isn’t obvious enough.
My rule is: Put in slicer pane two type of filters: 1. Filters that because of some reason has to interact or not interact with other visuals on page 2. Filters that are frequently used Everything else goes to Filter pane, especially Filters that have to be locked.
Awesome! I've heard comments from designers that suggest not mixing and matching between Slicers and filter pane as it can introduce confusion or a disjointed experience. I can see valid points in that. Ultimately, user education is helpful there.
Am I dumb or is there missing a key step in this video? The two Bookmarks look totally alike and have the same checkmarks but one displays the panel and the other one closes it? What magic is this and why does it not work on my desktop? I mean they MUST be different to have different fuctions, right?
Thank you Adam for your Knowledge_Sharing. in case of "UI" color changing; I think switch to dark_green color was a bad decision, PBI "UI Designers" should be more tasteful. The previous color, which was kind of honey, was much better. It should be noted that the icon color of this software is still honey.
@@GuyInACube You right. Indeed, my latest work in "PBI" includes a dashboard of Middle East countries, it is an honor to know your and other friends' opinion about it. youtub link 👇; ruclips.net/video/5OpFumnHA3w/видео.html
Someone needs to convince me why it is any better than Filter Pane? Filter pane is easy to manage and obviously much faster than slicer pane. Just my opinion. I am open to be proven wrong if anyone has a valid point.
The slicer page (initial example) is super helpful I find because if you have a 20 column table, all columns appear on the filter pane and having lots of page/visual level filters can get a bit busy The slicer pane totally agree - it looks like a pain to maintain and would never do that
If you can train all users from the outset to use the filter pane then it’s definitely the best option. Once they’ve used slicers on a page however it’s almost impossible to go the other way.
I won't say it's better than the filter pane from a technical perspective. Some of it comes down to user education and design aesthetics. One thing I've heard from design folks also is try to pick one option or the other and don't mix and match as that can be confusing. Again, some of that comes down to education though.
Power BI should instead improve the filter panel experience. It’s so messy and unintuitive that forces report builders to have to rely on this bookmark solution that’s is hard and time consuming to build.
Really looking forward to an update that makes creating, duplicating, and managing bookmarks simple. Currently it's a nightmare, especially once you have enough pages or have to deliver a consistent UI experience across many reports.

The Slicer Page can be less of a hassle as you don't have to deal with all the bookmarks.
Hi Adam,
Please make a video on how to make an age pyramid in powerBi
Why not filter pane ?? Wats the advantage of slicer pane with so much of pain ?
I kinda like more idea of dedicated page for filters. I already new this trick with side bar navigation and if you have multiple pages it's pain to make any changes like adding new slicer ale moving already existing ones and if you want this side bar on every page you have to set up bookmarks on every single page so that's bummer. Cool video though!
As soon as I add a Slicer on the rectangle shape, it gets hidden behind. Any idea ?
Really hope someone is still reading these comments:
What if I wanted to break out into two pages and use the same Slicer Panel? Is that possible?
For example, Page 1 has three categories filtered in the slicer, and Page 2 would have three different categories filtered. Or would I have to create a separate panel for that?
I really like the idea of the page wide button to close. But... If you had the button over the whole page, how can users still interact with visuals? Like for selecting a date point in one visual to filter or highlight data in other visuals?
The button is grouped with the Slicer Pane group, so once the slicer pane is closed, the button is hidden and will not impact the regular use of the report.
in the selciton part i cant group my selections why this is happening
Please let me know whether you have Udemy/ LinkedIn course for POWER BI
Why not use the prebuilt filter pane?
where is the prebuilt filter pane?
I would like to see Microsoft build the ability to have multiple slicers in sort of a tree structure. Not referring to hierarchy in the slicer, but the reality is that many data sets have 10+ fields that someone may want to filter on. Right now you have two options of either building a sliver page and taking up that real estate or using the filter tab, which I have found people don’t want to use or it just isn’t obvious enough.
For some reason, after doing everything you just did my buttons are not working. 😞
My rule is: Put in slicer pane two type of filters:
1. Filters that because of some reason has to interact or not interact with other visuals on page
2. Filters that are frequently used
Everything else goes to Filter pane, especially Filters that have to be locked.
Awesome! I've heard comments from designers that suggest not mixing and matching between Slicers and filter pane as it can introduce confusion or a disjointed experience. I can see valid points in that. Ultimately, user education is helpful there.
Add slicer 2:58
Am I dumb or is there missing a key step in this video?
The two Bookmarks look totally alike and have the same checkmarks but one displays the panel and the other one closes it?
What magic is this and why does it not work on my desktop?
I mean they MUST be different to have different fuctions, right?
had to watch this in 0.25 to follow damn xD
If i have 10 pages i have to manage 20 bookmarks for the same object? Crazy
Bu’’on
unfortunately that does not work fully on pages that are not 16:9. The user, should have to go up and down to open and close the slicer pane.
Thank you Adam for your Knowledge_Sharing.
in case of "UI" color changing;
I think switch to dark_green color was a bad decision, PBI "UI Designers" should be more tasteful. The previous color, which was kind of honey, was much better. It should be noted that the icon color of this software is still honey.
It was done for accessibility (people with Color blindness), not a style choice. You get used to it after a while.
@@PeterKontogeorgis ok, thanks. but, There are many colors for this purpose. now; Users think that this is an Copy of Excel.
Appreicate the feedback. I know the Power BI team has heard many comments on this. Agreed with Peter, it was done for accessibility reasons.
@@GuyInACube You right.
Indeed, my latest work in "PBI" includes a dashboard of Middle East countries, it is an honor to know your and other friends' opinion about it.

Slicer pane open doesn’t work
Someone needs to convince me why it is any better than Filter Pane? Filter pane is easy to manage and obviously much faster than slicer pane. Just my opinion. I am open to be proven wrong if anyone has a valid point.
The slicer page (initial example) is super helpful I find because if you have a 20 column table, all columns appear on the filter pane and having lots of page/visual level filters can get a bit busy
The slicer pane totally agree - it looks like a pain to maintain and would never do that
If you can train all users from the outset to use the filter pane then it’s definitely the best option.
Too much blah blah blah, just teach us!!!!!
