Brilliant video, thank you Bas. One question though… I can’t resize the unichar for some reason? The number changes when I type it in but the symbol remains the same size?! Any ideas? Thank you.
I just built my very first power BI dashboard and I must say it was a very steep learning curve yet extremely satisfying once you get it. The basics are ok, but once you want to go fancy, like using bookmarks with trigger buttons, fancy tool tips that points to pages, or pop up windows and hidden slices, then the fun really begins. I dont know what I was doing with excel for all these years when Power BI had been installed on my laptop all these times lol. Still learning and will definitely give this trick a try.
This is a great tip - I will be using nav groups in the future, a tip for you... save yourself alot of formatting fiddaling, select Pill shape and 0 px boarder padding
Hello, I've been on the BI landscape for a long time, but I'm just a beginner into Power BI world. I can say that your videos are a motivational source of inspiration to look for not-so-plain-not-so-funny reports/dashboards :) I'm sharing with my team, too. Thanks!
This is a great tip, much cleaner than the way I used to create toggle buttons using 2 overlapping button images! Will definitely be implementing this in to future reports. Great video as usual Bas
Hi Bas, as you may have noticed from multiple comments, the toggle text is not resizing and actually not even switching between 2 states. Maybe you can help us troubleshoot this issue. Thanks.
Maybe I solve it randomly. In the visual where you can apply settings to states if you change it to forexample selected from default and you start to resize there than go back to the default you can change the size normally It looks like a bug, but after changing the states it works perfectly fine for me I hope this help
I saw the title and started building overlapping circles on a pill, then watched the much-better solution. Thanks. Keep up the great tips and techniques. How did you get the click sound effect ? LOL. Of course, you can make the main visual a high-level line, and the second visual a detailed report.
Great tip, as always! I’ve always used multiple images to achieve this, and getting the image with the exact size and colour for every project can be time consuming. This is definitely super efficient especially for mockups to present different options to end user before actually building the full report.
Great idea, Bas. I am always amazed at how you make these all tricks with visuals. Your videos are very inspiring. I did the toggle button as you showed in this video, but somehow I can't read off some very thin border around the border. The border color is the background color I chose for the button.
Thank you, showing full screen will leads to small which may cause difficult in reading the exact content. Bas way of showing "focus method " is the best approach.
Something to be aware of is that not all Unicode characters are supported on Mac. So if you have users that will consume reports on a Mac then make sure you select a Unicode character supported on both Windows and Mac.
I liked the idea Bas , but I have used two images for on and off toggle that i created on powerpoint. Images seems to be much easier way. Your way is also awesome. Thanks for this video 😃👍
built-in limitations of PBI text padding make it impossible to get this down to the required size. However with character U+26AB, I can manage it (but this cannot change colour unfortunately). Thanks for another amazing vid!
Awesome technique, only thing I am struggling with is that it is difficult to scale down, in other words if you want to have a small toggle button, the "dot" starts to be not center-aligned anymore...
Super! Quick question, for some reason when I resize the button some sides of the padding doesnt work, specially the bottom and the left. Do I need to keep the size for a certain aspect?
Thank you for the guidance! However, when I attempted to apply it, I encountered an issue with formatting the symbol. Do you have any advice on how to resolve this?
Are we supposed to add the circle icon in the Toggle off area too? My circle icon seemed to disappear in the default state, but shows perfectly in the selected state.
Thank you for sharing. Have you also done a video in case you would like to add toggle buttons to other pages? Or does anyone from the comunity know how this could be done? it doesn't work with the same approach :) which seems to be obviously. Thank you!
Bas, your videos are awesome and help me a lot every day, so I feel thankful to have found you 😁 Is this possible de set a size chart with toggle ? Like on OFF its 600 width and on ON it's 300 width ? The idea behind is to show 1 graph rougly full size of the page, and on toggle ON it's show 3 graphs so all 3 get smaller to fit on the page ?
Beautifully presented and very clear, BUT... I can't get it to work the way you demonstrated. It's fine up to 3:31 where the bookmark manager 'toggles between two states'. The two states invoke the correct bookmark filters, but the text on the button remains the same regardless of which way round I set the group, the bookmark and the deselection bookmark. By making the text of the main bookmark "Show / Hide Filters" I can deliver a usable solution because that text makes sense in both contexts but it is not as satisfying as your unicode trick. I tried it on multilple reports across different machines with different versions of PBI installed. Clearly I am missing a step, being remarkably stupid, or both. Either way I would LOVE some guidance here because your toggle switch is such an elegant and efficient solution (if only I could get it to work!
Thank you, but I got a small issue: I see a border around the toggle, but it's not actually a border. It depends on the color of the "Fill"- so grey or green, and I cannot remove it. Would you have any idea how to get rid of it? Thank you very much again!
This is for bookmarks .. maybe check the last example of this video which shows an alternative toggle NEW Button Slicers in Power BI | 3 Examples You Don’t Want to Miss! ruclips.net/video/czq-HRFQRnc/видео.html
Hey! This might be outdated for you, but regarding your question: I recommend creating a new button and assigning new bookmarks to it. Copying and pasting a button will keep the original bookmarks, so the "copied" button will still navigate to the original visual or page. To avoid this, either create a new button and assign the bookmarks you want, or copy the button and manually update its bookmarks.
Just made this toggle button using images and its way too much hassle to manage if any changes are made in the report Thank you so much for this I didn't know about this Unicode characters idea
For bad luck desktop version have problem in changing size format of unicode... Well your way cant succeed if you have deselected data option in bookmarks....
Heck yes.... I'm in the middle of migrating my workspace to new data sources and the timing of your videos this week have been amazing you're going to cut my workload in half and make everything looks 100 times better b
You could also just find or create blank button import a custom icon that you just download from a icon library, and then just use the "icon" option switch between two costom icons with selected and deffault state, abit easier.
Very Nice. But how can I do it if I already have other bookmarks? Like I already have 2 bookmarks for other things, and I want to create this switch for new bookmarks.. When I insert the button, it shows me all 4 bookmarks.
Hi , Can you help me with my scenario. 1. I have added multiple 5 toggle button instead of 5 slicers. All 5 slicer is having yes or no value so i used toggle. 2. But case 1 :- each toggle is working independently. Case 2:- if user wants to apply 2 slicer then how it will work. Brother Please help me on this .
Thank you so much for showing us how to do this. I have built the toggle and it changes some filters but not all. It also doesn't filter the tables. When I click on 'edit interactions' no symbols show anywhere. How do I ensure the toggle filters all visuals please?
Maybe the issue is in the "Data" field -> activate "Bookmarks" in "View", right-click on your bookmarks - remove "v" from "Data so that the toggle couldn't remove any filters by switching. I hope, it will solve/partly solve your problem.
I know it's a one year old video but this is gold! The amount of tricks I've learned from this channel is just incredible!

Brilliant video, thank you Bas. One question though… I can’t resize the unichar for some reason? The number changes when I type it in but the symbol remains the same size?! Any ideas? Thank you.
9 months later and I encounter the same problem... any solutions in the meantime, maybe?
For anyone having resizing issues, try clicking the button and selecting an unselecting. This got my sizing to take.

After pasting the circle in place of Toggle ON, the size of the circle is not increasing. Kept the state as "Default" but no change in size.
Had the same issue only the toggle off would enlarge then I watched your short and it works. Was to do with the border and fill. Thanks
that is a very neat and creative way to create toggle button without overlaying images. bravo!
This is a great tip - I will be using nav groups in the future, a tip for you... save yourself alot of formatting fiddaling, select Pill shape and 0 px boarder padding
These tutorials are excellent, but it does highlight so many shortcomings in Power BI that could be very easily resolved by the developers.
Thanks, agree… a lot of potential

Amazing video, but I had problems with paddling. The bottom one just refused to work, so moving up the circle is looking impossible. Any solutions?
Having the EXACT same problem no matter how I set the shape (pill or rectanglular with rounded edges) -- would love some help! 😖

Typical Mac and Apple being difficult.
I thought you couldn’t use BI on a Mac?
@@katrinahernandez8201 You can't use Power BI to create reports, but you can consume reports.
I create this image in Powerpoint first and pull them in PowerBI. But this one is really unique idea. I like it.

Why can't I resize ? I selected the font size exactly as you did but it doesn't resize in anyway
Same issue with me
Because the Borders are active by default. You need to switch borders off to resize the dot

I can’t believe its this hard to setup a simple toggle button in PBI. great tutorial btw
