In this video, we talk about how to use the tool Eneroth Upright extruder to extrude objects along paths while maintaining their orientation in SketchUp. This allows you to create things like roads along curves that stay straight up and down, screws, handrails that follow curved stairs, and much more!

Well that scaling trick definitely worked. I was trying to create a spiraled column by myself and with extensions. Even with Extrude Upright extension I was getting surface issues, where pieces of surface were missing from the entire spiral. Scaled it up a bunch and it worked. Thank you
Edit: It takes quite more time than I expected for the plugin to create the surface.
Glad it helped! SketchUp doesn't do super well with tiny surfaces, but scale them up, creating surfaces, and scaling back down usually does the trick :)
Thanks for sharing. That follow-me tool bug has been in SketchUp since its creation. Its time to call Mission Impossible
Lol - or just use the extension! :)
Thank you. I never knew about "face size limitations" and how easy it is to solve.
its sketchup that doesn't fix this issue.. for hmm about 10 yrs now -.-
I have used both Eneroth’s “Upright Extruder” and the extension “Follow Me And Keep” to model complex stair rails in my work. You did an overview tut a while back in your SketchUp Extension of the Week #22 covering “Follow Me And Keep”. I have found FMAK to be less buggy and not requiring work arounds like the one you did in this vid. It would be interesting to see you use the two extensions side by side for your stair rail example in this video and compare the results.
Interesting - I've never thought about comparing the two before...
Nice work Justin - thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Good show Justin!
Thanks Willem!
nice thanks for share
how to make a ramp for a wheelchair. that a path is like curving.?
hi! I have tried to select both surface and curve, while I still can't extrude the surface by upright extruder. Is it any limitation or setting in the new version of plugin? thanks!
First, how did you make that curved stairs? Is there an extension where I can do that easily?
Hey Justin can't we use soften to hide the extra edges of handrail..
Why not?
hi Justin , i got weird problem with vray for SU , i somehow cannot render any displacement in scene ....what i am doing wrong ? /render is stacked in merging light cache passes/
Did you apply the material to the outside of a group, rather than on a raw face? Displacement maps don't seem to work very well on raw faces
ty for quick answer , i figured out why my displacement failed , it was due my displacement maps was too bright , when i lower their gamma number displacement just start to work ....
Hello ...may i ask you something?
I divided face to many faces .
Can i make evry face to group ?
I hope to help me ..I'm student in college
You can group each one individually if you want, but why would you want to?
i can't use upright extrude
Not enough info for me to help
I have the same problem with extruder. It simply doesn’t work with jhs powerbar. It works when it is instaled as a separete plugin but not in jhs.
