Just FYI MacOS regular screenshot tool has the feature that lets you take those pictures of a window with the shadow or any menu element like a Dropdown-Menu and stuff like that. Just press space after you hit the selective screenshot shortcut. The icon on you mouse will change into a camera icon and any window or distinct menu element can just be clicked to screenshot that way. And it’s a tip I had to learn that is super useful in certain situations.)
To complement Hans' hint regarding native snapshots of a window pressing the space bar: - pressing Control while clicking the window will send the capture to the clipboard instead of saving it to a file - pressing Option while clicking the window will take the capture WITHOUT the shadow surrounding the window
I love this! As someone who has switched between macOS and Windows myself, I love that you’ve found Mac apps that take all the fan favourite Windows features and bring them to us on macOS. Thanks for the video!
MacOS can do almost everything that cleanshotx does. Cmd+Shift+3 and you can annotate, if you cmd+shift+3 and than press spacebar, you can also make a beautiful screenshot of specific window with transparency and rounded corners.
I suggest using cmd+shift+4 so you can drag a rectangle (3 shoots the whole screen at once) when you press ctrl while releasing the mouse the shot lands in the clipboard (not as file on the desk) when you press spacebar you can select a window you‘re hovering over. when you press spacebar AFTER having started to drag an area with the mouse you can move the area around. annotations and drawings are also possible, the only two things that macos can‘t do: -upolad to cloud - pixelate areas in the shot

4:17 You should mention here that Moom offers the option to save the arrangement of multiple apps on multiple monitors and then call them up again with a shortcut as long as the apps are open. When everything is messed up, I use a shortcut to hide all the windows, then I use my Moom shortcut to restore my favorite setup of windows. Love it.

Thank you for creating productivity tips and content. I love your videos because they are super fun and insightful, and you do a great job simplifying the learning.
Hi Jeff, I've been a Windows user/gamer for decades and finally got a newish Macbook Pro after getting along with an older iMac for years just to keep up with what Apple is doing. Windows might have the best gaming platform and Office suite but Mac is certainly pretty good for everything alse. It's awesome how there's so much good freeware now to tweak and optimise the OS. It's actually catching up to Windows and I dare say doing it more stylishly. Yours is one of the best channels I've found that lists and describes the best apps, tips and tricks. You deserve many more subs man. Cheers
We basically went through the same experience my friend! I only really started using a Mac like 2 years ago but I'm really enjoying the M1 experience so far!
@@JeffSu Yes, the M1 is indeed a powehouse! I still mostly use Windows admittely, (I have 28 in the office and another 5 around the house) as well as linux and now the MB pro. One can never have too many computers right?! 😂

OMG this AltTab app totally saved me!!! I tried searching for this a lot when I started using Mac but never found a free good option. Thank you for sharing!
Great video as always! You missed a really big feature of Cleanshot, IMO (one of the only reasons I've been looking at buying it) - scrolling screenshots. Being able to capture more than what is currently on the screen in a still image without having to try to combine multiple images together is such a game-changer.

@@JeffSu no problem Jeff! I'm sure your content will only get better as time goes on! Spark has both a free and paid version, but the free version is amazing. The paid version only adds team functionality such as private chats on a per-email basis, and automatic forwarding or cc'ing. The best thing about it is, it has a auto-categorization API that works far better than gmail's one, and has group "mark as read" and mass deletion functionality. You should use it for like a week, it is amazing.
Wow love the alt tab... Instead of Alfred I like raycast even more bc it has many of the paid features there for free and a inbuilt window manager (like moom)...

Hi Jeff alfred video would be great and I have one more request, please you could make video about pdf readers. I really like reading on google play books and automaticly created files of annotated and highlighted part but I could not find an app has these features for mac, iPad etc. so far. Have you any suggestions?
Long time user of Rectangle and I can confirm that you can move windows between screens. I originally used a different tool for this and once it became no longer maintained by the devs I moved to Rectangle which allowed me to use all of the keyboard shortcuts from the old app so there was zero learning curve. Great app.
Hey Jeff 👋 Thanks for sharing ! On my side I’m using Alfred for a loooong time and it’s very powerful so I’m curious to know how you are using it 🙄 In my top 5 apps on my Mac : bar tender 4, it’s allow me to clean up the menu bar See you next week ✌️
Okay now I'm worried you know more about Alfred than me so my Alfred video will be useless 😰. Yes Bartender will be featured next week and I heard a free alternative to be Dozer? Or even Vanilla
Loving all the tips! Amazing app - my favorite is Cleanshot X and numi - totally boost up my workflow by 2000%! Would love to see a deeper explanation for Alfred... Have had this app for ages but never got used to it.
Hey Jeff, loved the video, even though I use a lot of these apps already. Alt-tab was a saviour. I have tried Alfred in the past, but simply could not get myself to learn all of its features. maybe spotlight search does everything I need. As you suggested, a video highlighting what Alfred can do over Spotlight for users (I am sure it is loaded), would be an absolute gem
@@JeffSu Update: I moved to Raycast and it is GOOD. Community supported plugins are great, and it is fairly responsive and has great keyboard shortcut support.
@@JeffSu Plus it is fully featured, and free for individual users 😁. Plus the fact that their own API is well documented, third party app integration is growing and has quite a few useful ones, even for my development workflow, where I search for packages, lookup documentation which would normally a google search - but now, since there are integrations in to web apps and since rendering is within Raycast, I don't have to go via a web browser route. True, this does not work for all extensions, but enough to keep me on the same window and do a lot of things.
Thank you Jeff for sharing these apps. I used to be amazed by Alfred until I found Raycast there is free and has a lot of features, I can customize my own scripts and use extensions created by the community. I love how it integrates with some of the apps that I use daily for productivity, like Todoist. It would be really awesome to watch a video with your opinion about Alfred vs Raycast
@@JeffSu I would love to hear your take on Alfred and Raycast. I find Spotlight to be remarkably powerful and haven't jumped into the world of Alfred yet, but I am always intrigued. Specific use cases would be valuable to see.
@@JeffSu Yes! Or you don't even have to select the app. Just press ctrl+cmd and move your mouse cursor to left, right, up, or down on top of the app and it will move.
Rectangle for window management, I got used to the swipe gestures for viewing multiple windows and Raycast, which I think is overall better than Alfred now(although I do love Alfred) because of the way they implemented their extensions feature
@@JeffSu they’ve got a built in store in the search, but you can also just check out the extensions on their site. I gave it a good spin for a couple weeks before making the decision to move and it’s been great
@@JeffSu Yep, might be more applicable on Ipad OS but I'm sure theres some overlap on IOS too. With all your conversations with Tim Apple I see in your vids I'm sure you have a few tricks up your sleeve haha
"I love working at my company, but we are (sigh) very American-centric" - that sigh was really amazing 😂 By the way, I agree with you. How can America adopt such metrics different from the rest of the world? 🤪😵💫
I wish one of you guys would get into the best Mac tool ever, Keyboard Maestro. It’s basically a macro tool that can…anything. Literally. Run scripts, executed any step I could want executed, click on found images on the screen (or save their found or not found state to a variable so i can do something if the image I need is not on screen), and so on. I could not run my life without Keyboard Maestro.
I know CleanShot X is veeery similar to the native mac screenshot tool but there was always something that bothered me about it. I was literally this week thinking about trying to find a better screenshot tool and for me the pinned screenshot, ability to choose between saving and copying with a button and the beautiful annotations were a win for me. I downloaded the tool without thinking twice after your video, you should get a commission for that ahhahaha
Thanks Jeff. Really useful stuff. There is a Mac inbuilt way to copy a screenshot to the clipboard. CMD + Shift + 4, then hold down Ctrl while you snip it. Cheers

Finally I can alt tab to a specific window. Thanks for the great find with AltTab, loving this app!
I know right??? I was so happy when I first came across it too 😁
Hi Jeff alfred video would be great and I have one more request, please you could make video about pdf readers. I really like reading on google play books and automaticly created files of annotated and highlighted part but I could not find an app has these features for mac, iPad etc. so far. Have you any suggestions?
for PDF readers have you checked out my Microsoft Edge video?
Long time user of Rectangle and I can confirm that you can move windows between screens. I originally used a different tool for this and once it became no longer maintained by the devs I moved to Rectangle which allowed me to use all of the keyboard shortcuts from the old app so there was zero learning curve. Great app.
I started using Rectangle hahahaha
Hey Jeff 👋
Thanks for sharing !
On my side I’m using Alfred for a loooong time and it’s very powerful so I’m curious to know how you are using it 🙄
In my top 5 apps on my Mac : bar tender 4, it’s allow me to clean up the menu bar
See you next week ✌️
Okay now I'm worried you know more about Alfred than me so my Alfred video will be useless 😰. Yes Bartender will be featured next week and I heard a free alternative to be Dozer? Or even Vanilla
What about the alternative Raycast?
@@frogical9553 I haven't used Raycast (yet)!
@@JeffSu The app bartender is also such an great tool!
@@alexboettcher That will be featured in next week's video 😁
yo clean shot x is mad! I never thought I needed more accuracy for screenshots haha
Yea it's awesome!! One of the few apps I happily pay for!
Dude I love the way you create your tutorials. The quality is amazing, I really need a mentor like you 👍
Thank you so much my friend 😁
Loving all the tips! Amazing app - my favorite is Cleanshot X and numi - totally boost up my workflow by 2000%! Would love to see a deeper explanation for Alfred... Have had this app for ages but never got used to it.
Will do Namika 😁
Man been awhile since I saw someone go straight to the point.
I subscribed ser.
My viewers' time is valuable! Of course! 😁
Will do my friend 😁
@@JeffSu Update: I moved to Raycast and it is GOOD. Community supported plugins are great, and it is fairly responsive and has great keyboard shortcut support.
@@MrProximace dam I’m so curious now
@@JeffSu Plus it is fully featured, and free for individual users 😁.
Finally Monitor control, I'm in love. Great video man I hope you are fine with the situation there.
Thank you Andrea! So you use Monitor Control as well??
Thank you Jeff for sharing these apps. I used to be amazed by Alfred until I found Raycast there is free and has a lot of features, I can customize my own scripts and use extensions created by the community. I love how it integrates with some of the apps that I use daily for productivity, like Todoist. It would be really awesome to watch a video with your opinion about Alfred vs Raycast
I've never used Raycast but wow it sounds great!
@@JeffSu I would love to hear your take on Alfred and Raycast. I find Spotlight to be remarkably powerful and haven't jumped into the world of Alfred yet, but I am always intrigued. Specific use cases would be valuable to see.
@@AlexHerder Now I definitely have to make that Alfred deep dive video!
Thanks for mentioning about Raycast!
Thank you! Really big help! I will love to watch full tutorial of Alfred.
You're very welcome Julie! Will do 😁
Great list! Although I think Rectangle Pro is way better than Moom, mainly due to the ability to use mouse flicks to snap the apps.
Like literally "throw" an app window into a snapped position? 🤯
Same here
@@JeffSu Yes! Or you don't even have to select the app. Just press ctrl+cmd and move your mouse cursor to left, right, up, or down on top of the app and it will move.
Thanks for the helpful vid, I started using Rectangle
LOL I also have the Logitech MX Master tool. Kind of a given, to map them keys
How's your experience with Rectangle so far?? 😁
@@JeffSu Awesome, the one thing I wish Macs did that Windows does is snap windows like that :D
For a free app it's crushing it!
Rectangle for window management, I got used to the swipe gestures for viewing multiple windows and Raycast, which I think is overall better than Alfred now(although I do love Alfred) because of the way they implemented their extensions feature
How does Raycast implement their extensions feature? I'm so curious now haha
@@JeffSu they’ve got a built in store in the search, but you can also just check out the extensions on their site. I gave it a good spin for a couple weeks before making the decision to move and it’s been great
In my opinion, this is a very needed type of discussion. Thank you.
Glad to hear it John! You're welcome 😁
Great video Jeff, really enjoyed the more tech centric video in this one! Maybe a productivity app/workflow tips on IOS would be a cool idea!
You mean on the iPhone? or iPad?
@@JeffSu Yep, might be more applicable on Ipad OS but I'm sure theres some overlap on IOS too. With all your conversations with Tim Apple I see in your vids I'm sure you have a few tricks up your sleeve haha
@@Pyonz24 But he swore me to secrecy with all the advanced new features, relying on the...M5 chip.....🤫
@@JeffSuM5!? We haven’t even reached M2 yet haha. Tell Timmy USB C on iPhone is long overdue lol
@@Pyonz24 Will do
this is awesome. Helped a lot since I’m coming from a lifetime windows user
Glad to hear it Igor!! 😁
"I love working at my company, but we are (sigh) very American-centric" - that sigh was really amazing 😂
By the way, I agree with you. How can America adopt such metrics different from the rest of the world? 🤪😵💫
Because...it came from deep down 🤣. I honestly have no idea how to process feet, yards, ounces....😅
@@JeffSu Neither do I... I'm Brazilian, living in Brazil! 😜😁
Quite a few viewers have mentioned this, thanks for sharing!!
Hahahaha so the developer kindly reached out to me thanking me after this video, but no commission 😭
If you use the Mac screenshot tool, you can press Command + C immediately after taking any screenshot to copy it. Not a lot of people know that.
@@time2livelife Thanks for sharing Sarah!!
@@time2livelife thanks!!!!
@@time2livelife One more now ;-) thanks :)
Excellent video. I just bought a studio and started using Alfred. Would love to see a video. Great work Sir.
The Alfred video is up 😁!
Jeff ! We Want Windows productivity apps also 🙂
I'll try my best 😂
@@JeffSu yes please
Awesome video Jeff!
Thank you David!!! 😁
anyone know what monitors he has?
Sam question
Those are Apple XDR monitors he got it for heavy discount. He explained the desk setup in another video. Check his playlists
Thanks Jeff. Really useful stuff. There is a Mac inbuilt way to copy a screenshot to the clipboard. CMD + Shift + 4, then hold down Ctrl while you snip it. Cheers
Got it, thanks for sharing Amila 😁

Not sure if you're the first or Olley over there 😂
@@JeffSu 😂😂😂
Hey Jeff,
Great video as usual ! I’m very interesting to see how you use Alfred !
Will do! It's in the content pipeline 😁
One of the best videos on RUclips, I will give a try of these apps
Awesome, let me know how it goes Gerardo 😁
I have a question wanna ask you, are you an ABC?
Nope
@@JeffSu thank you
Rectangle CAN move windows between displays. Love that tool.
Gotcha, thanks for letting me know!!
Pro Tip: If you need Alt+Tab, then you have no idea how to use a Mac and you need to spend some more time learning it.
Oh how so? 😁
Great intro! I thought I'm watching the Stanford speech of Steve Jobs because of the bg music!
Hahaha I saw that video a while back too! I'll take it as a compliment 😁
You should try 'Paste' as your clipboard manager. It has all the features of the best other clipboard managers, and its UI looks as if Apple designed a clipboard manager
Oooo thanks for letting me know! 😁
@@JeffSu it also has an iPhone app so every text or image you copy on your mac is available on your iPhone
I often copy things to my paste clipboard just in case I might need to reference them later but I don’t want to actually add them to a notes app
@@SoImPlayer2 Ah, gotcha!
OMG, thank you for alttab.
No problem my friend 😁
I like your video's man, the right mix between useful tips, slick editing, and humour. LOL for the middle finger to imperial units :D
Hahahahaha glad you caught that joke Tim 😁
wow! i've been looking for something like alttab since i've gotten a mac 10 years ago
repeatedly asked for something like this online, always to no avail
thanks for this
You’re very welcome!!!!
Fantastic. Really useful! Alfred alone was worth watching the video. Snappy presentation makes it fun, too. Keep them coming!
Awesome, thanks for the kind words John! I also have an Alfred video up 😁
+1 for an Alfred walk-through. Keep up the awesome work.
Got it Joey, thanks for letting me know 😁
Wow! It's great, I don't hear about alttab apps, but wanted this feature so much! Thanks for the video!
No problem! You're very welcome 😁

To be honest, I REALLY recommend buying Alfred's PowerPack. I've had it for a few months now and can't live without it. 🙂
Thanks for all the tips, Jeff!
You're very welcome! Alfred video coming up in a few days 😁
man, I used to use alt+tab before Ventura came in (in the early days of this OS it was not yet supported). thanks for reminding me to install it back again
No problem Carlos! Glad to be of service 😁
For years, I've been complaining to Apple about the Alt+tab usage, downloading that app asap.
Let me know if that's what you wanted!
@@JeffSu its perfect in everyway. Now if only there were default keyboard shortcuts in the Mail app so i can quickly move messages to specific folders. I know there are some other programs out there to check, but just wish it would follow's Outlook's way.

Nice! Let me know how you like them Joe 😁
For the clipboard part, you can also save an area to your clipboard by holding ctrl while printing.
cmd + shift + 4, select an area, then press ctrl and release your mouse
Yes! I just find Cleanshot (or Shottr as a free alternative) to be more powerful than the default screen capture tool 😁
