5 Dying Car Brands

- Car manufacturers come and go. Some last a few years, others a few decades but the rare ones, may last even a century. However, no manufacturer has had a continuous streak of success. Failure, bankruptcy, and closures are all commonplace for every single auto manufacturer. These are the most recent auto brands that have already closed their factory doors and or on the brink of bankruptcy.

1) Yes, I mispronounced Renault. I’m an uncultured American swine. I’ll do better next time, I promise.
2) High sales volume does not equal success. Again, check out the other RUclipsr’s videos.
Selling millions of cars worldwide doesn’t mean anything if your profit margins are 1% (or less) after covering all expenses. A prime example would be GM selling MILLIONS of cars and trucks worldwide, every year leading up to the 2007/2008 financial crisis but still needing a bailout from the US government.
3) When I say modern Buick. I was implying 2010+. Yes, the Grand National is dope but not a ‘modern’ car.
It is still a cool think you talk about a French car company, even if it's for being a grave digger, in your next video, if you ever gonna talk about a French brand, the last letter are mostly silent in name
Like peugeot, you don't pronounce the "t", if you ever gonna talk about the new chrysler-peugeot alliance.
Or chevrolet which is a French name, you don't say the "t".
Mitsubishi is in alliance with Renault and Nissan. They're struggling also
It's ok... when people complain about incorrect pronounciation I always ask them what the capitol of France is and they say Paris.... I then ask, is it not Pari with a silent S? 😂😂😂
Omni Rider They should have combined Oldsmobile and Pontiac over keeping Buick.
2.Renault/Nissan/Mitsu sell over 1mln cars but by Dacia (lo cost Renault) or Renault India (where must cooperate with local partner 50/50)
3.GM like take an AXE and go behind barn to kill some brands (Pontiac)
"No kid grew up hoping to own a Buick"
Grand National: "Am I a joke to you?"
Fair fair. I was more referring to the late model Buick’s like 2010+
The older Buick musclecars, kids would grow up wanting. But none of them grew dreaming of owning their Grandmothers 2000 Buick Regal....
They should’ve kept Pontiac
Omni Rider The Buick Regal tourX wagon is pretty damn cool, even if it is a rebadged opel. Probably the best looking sub 40k new wagon out there

The car industry is dying because new cars are too expensive and nicer used cars are really well priced
Exactly
The car industry is dying because since the 70s they've been trying to offer more without raising the price to the end user enough to compensate.
The real reason why car manufacturers are dying off (at least in Europe) are the ridiculous engine displacement values. Seriously, would YOU consider buying a 0.9 3-cylinder for $30k?
@@fenn_fren Which car manufacturers in Europe are dying off?
@@bremCZ Not necessarily the brands themselves, however sales of new cars are declining drastically specifically for that reason. So now everyone's gonna hop on to the EV bullcrap and just hope for the best.
I think Ford can make a lot of money by selling their Focus ST and Feista ST models in North America again (not a Focus RS because nobody wants to pay 40k for a hatchback) young enthusiasts want affordable, fun, small cars.
Perfectly Balanced same
not gonna happen. SUVs and trucks are more profitable, and they only see short-term money at the end of the day.
Reuben Sandwich they would make the most money on the normal versions cause they would sell the most
Reuben Sandwich The Focus has been one of Ford’s top selling cars they made a mistake not selling it here anymore. Yes I agree that America is into SUVs but Volkswagen still has the Golf GTI, Honda still has the Civic Type R, and Hyundai still has the Veloster. There are still people out there that want sporty, small cars
Enthusiasts are not the ones who give the money

Yeah. Ford has always been the one American car company that can survive changing markets. GM will go bankrupt for sure though.
Angel Gutierrez EVERYONE is saying gm bankruptcy. That is true, not if but when. Is geely going to eventually buy them out, if not one piece at a time then all at once?

Car companies are killing themselves; You can only shove so much technology into a car before it becomes an overpriced vehicle that is not worth buying when you can buy the older one.
Six pest they focus too much on the technology and much less on anything else
You two are right
Young people just can’t afford brand new cars anymore, prices compared to wages.. it’s like buying a brand new car is a luxury these days, for cheap built automobiles
It's really this. Theres literally dozens of cars I'd like.......but all I felt comfortable financing was a car under 10k. I bought a Dodge Dart for $8750 with 40k miles......wtf else was I supposed to do? We all know running out financing a supposedly "affordable" car at 30k when I only make 45k is "the middle class trap" so we dont. The idea of trying to pay for any car over about 3-5k in cash just seems absurd. I'd have to wait 2-3 years to buy in cash. Any car I COULD buy in cash is gonna be a timebomb or I better "know a guy" who can hook me up for a case of beer.
We arent all lawyers and entrepreneurs. With the cost of everything else going up it's all just too much. I gotta save for retirement I cant dumb it on a car. Not to mention we all know about depreciation now. We all know to just not even bother until the car loses 40 percent value. Why would I? I saw a 2015 Hyundai Genesis with a 5.0 L v8 and only 35k miles for $18k.........so a 60k car with only 20 percent of its life gone? That car is identical to what is now the Genesis g80 fully loaded.......why tf would I even look at a new one?
Very true. A nice looking decent car is going to be over 30k
It's really insane
@@interceptingfist5682 to be fair. If it's a newer type Dodge Dart, I think they look pretty nice. I'm buying my first car soon and the Dart is one I'm looking at.
@The Metalhead lmao, truly a comment worthy of an uneducated person.
Car brands are dying because everyone buys used cars. New cars are too damn expensive and depreciate too quick
BMW Mercedes and Porsche and Audi do OK.
Cars are about the same cost, relative to inflation, that they have been for many decades. The real reason that brands are dying is because people don't care about cars in the same way that they used to; that is to say, cars fill a different role in peoples' lives than they used to. Consequently, there isn't a lot of brand loyalty. Cars have become so good that a recent-model used car is almost as good as new. That wasn't the case, back in the day.
@@jamesw1659 Wages have stagnated so even though cars cost the same they're less affordable.
I personally am a big fan of the R, Z, and S chassis so I hope Nissan will come back stronger. If not, at least maintain themselves in the market.
In my country the average paychecks are becoming less and we have some financial straggling, but somehow the average car prices are becoming higher, and they're wondering why nobody is buying cars as before, sorry for my English
Nissan cars look like bugs something i would find in my yard

@Silver N Black Mopar he was being sarcastic
@@stampede122 did you do some school, because if you're a dropout with no plan or idea of where you're heading, you're fucked.
Younger people are more focused on paying crazy rents and paying back loans with salaries that aren't increasing at the same rate of cost of living. So less car purchases lol.
Nissan should remember what happened when AMC partnered with Renault
Plus, with Buick, if they actually make a legit performance car again, they might get a slight boost in sales. Besides, they still have the rights to the Grand National and GNX name and they’re doing nothing with it
Your missing another thing, stupid non petrol heads dont want to see fast cars
Yeah, but also Renault saved Dacia and Lada which are selling really good today
Tera Cadenzavna True, but stupid non petrol heads are barely buying Buicks at this point now. Developing a new sports car with GNX name just might get them in that “millennial” category that they have been aiming for.

GM needs to bring back the Grand National with a twin turbo 4.3 V6 or a inline 6 version of the 2.7 turbo inline 4 from the Silverado with RWD based on the new GM Alpha platform. An inline 6 version of the 2.7 turbo would be great for GM and I would like GM to get rid of the High Feature 3.0 and 3.6 V6 engines because of it’s reputation. When GM replaced the B, D, and G body cars with the N, G (FWD), and W body cars, it was one of the worst automotive reboots in history even though the 3.8 V6 was bulletproof. The Grand National may save Buick. When GM released the High Feature V6, it had a terrible reputation from day one. If GM screws up on an engine when it’s launched like the Oldsmobile diesel, people tend to not buy them even though GM fixed most of the Oldsmobile diesel problems in later years. I haven’t heard many reliability issues with the 2.7 turbo 4 yet except for poor fuel economy when towing.
We need to bring back Studebaker, Packard, Mercury, Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saturn.
Steven Lindsey Yes Saturn would have a lot of potential
saturn was a good idea from GM but they ruined it.
AVD Gaming CRX yep but we can give it another chance
And Deusenberg
Saturn, I agree with. If GM bothered to do something right once in a while, such as the return of Saturn as a cheaper alternative to Chevrolet, they wouldn't be going bankrupt so often.
As for the rest, none of them would have a place in 2020, though.
3:23, the hell, the GSX, the Grand National, hell I'd even like a 2010 Regal GS (underrated sleeper)
5thVenom That’s the point of the video though. Both those Vehicles are used, meaning Buick would not be gaining anything on that sale. Nothing they make is good anymore.
5thVenom but the point isn’t that the older ones are terrible it is that no one is buying new ones

When you really think about it, car manufacturers are stuck between the hammer and an anvil.
The anvil being laws of physics, the hammer - exceedingly strict government regulations.
You can't make well built reliable car that isn't overly expensive, has the newest tech, and complies with current emissions and safety standards. One of these has to be compromised.

The car industry is dying because of strict emissions regulations. There is no point continuing as before since the emissions regulations are way to tight for normal size engines and the companies havent figured out electric cars yet so they are investing a ton of money into electric car development while still trying to get internal combustion engines on the market and ofc spending more money on them aswell (tighter emissions regulations). Thats why some cars still havent gotten a new model, are overpriced or simply discontinued. It isnt the fault of dumb buyers, its the fault of us trying to be climate friendly now and not having done this years ago.
