How My $60000 Car Loan Financially Ruined Me | Story Time With Omni

- Story time! I'm going to get a little personal here and speak openly about my financial struggles throughout the last five or so years. Please understand I had to greatly condense this video; therefore, I intentionally left out many details as I strictly wanted to focus on my car purchases.
My motivation for creating this video was to address the long standing belief that every person with a 'nice' car(s) is doing really well for themselves. I can almost guarantee you that most people with 'nice' cars aren't as well off as they'd like to project themselves to be. This is my story.

I got one of the strangest pieces of advice awhile back in high school at a car meet this guy with a SnakeSkin Green Viper told me,"Remember that there will always be a faster, bigger, stronger, more expensive, better etc. insert[thing] in your life, so when it comes to cars just get something that makes you happy and you want and afford, don't worry about what others say or think because at the end of the day you'll be the one paying for it all." @@benben6054 In the used market you can get plenty of speedier cars but definitely nothing new for that low of a budget. The best you could get would be a track focused but low powered car like a Miata, BRZ/86 or maybe a 4 cylinder or V6 pony car. 4 banger and V6 Camaros are actually track weapons due to less weight than the V8 ones, but you'd get made fun of for owning it as what happened with Omni's V6 Mustang.
@@private6549 Highly disagree. Most people buying a car NEED the car for medical purposes, work or family. You 100% DO NOT need to have 7k in the bank and straight up buy a car for 7k. Taking a small loan nowa days is way better since the interest rates are very low. Invest the money in realestate, stocks, gold or what ever you fancy. This mentally of being able to buy something outright isnt gonna get you anywhere. Just think about your job, your family, your hosehold and the maintenance of the car before you buy it. This part "And NEVER buy a car if you can't pay for the whole thing in cash and still have plenty of money left over" is just straight up unrealistic. Most normal people cant just straight up buy a car and have money left over, because not everyone has parental support. 1st time buyer mistake. I did the same as well coincidentally going on 5 years ago in summer 2016. I Lost my interest in cars as I was in school and jumping into my career. Went to my first car show with friends, found out that Skyline GTRs are legal and literally bought the first one i can find ( I didn't even know how to drive a manual , my friend had to drive it home). A clapped out overpriced white one for 18k ( In retrospect for 18k back then, Skyline GTRs should be in better condition) . It was in bad condition despite having some fun road trips in it. I sunk in 3k on buying replacement parts to get it back on the road. Luckily i only had to spend 600$ at my friends shop. Starting in 2017, Now doing actual research on the vehicle, finding out all of this was a money pit. I put it up for sale. Me loving Gran Turismo and since this is my dream car I will get another one but this time do it right and not buy a stateside Skyline. I discovered an exporter in Nagoya Japan who does special orders , have minor work done to it , parts i had them order/ parts I had shipped to them and have it painted before being shipped to the states. I sold the white 32 GTR for way less then i paid for and sunk in at 12k, 6k less than I paid for :( . But months later in August 2017 when the new refreshed one arrived at the ports, I been stress free since. I put in some money in modifications but overall Ive literally spent nothing since it landed besides regular maintenance. Some times you gotta take a L to learn and get better in life. Especially when it comes to cars and purchasing them.
I did something similar with my first car but not nearly to the degree $$ wise in which you did, however my second car was also a basket case too.
So much money and time, tons of set backs that I didn't need that prevented me from jumpstarting my life in a correct way.
I know its hard for young guys to face the reality of buying a 'boring' car, but its worth it. If you're living independently and need reliable transportation, buy cheap and reliable, it will allow you to get to a point of buying a good, fun car, later on.
Also, A friend of mine went out and bought a newer car when he couldn't really afford it, insane interest rate + ins, and I watched it bite him for the entire 5-6 year loan until he totaled it, and before he totaled it, the transmission was on its way out.
I think people get this confused sometimes too. Cheap + Reliable isn't always boring. I always tout old Nissan and old Infiniti (Pre 2003-2006ish) because they're tons of fun and pretty reliable, they'll outrun most of anything in the price range, and they come without the added rice potential of getting a terrible car from say, a Honda, where some high-school kids DIY'd everything.
I learned my lesson in 2018 when I found myself in 48k in car debt lol, I started watching Dave Ramsey and now my only debt is my house, no more credit cards, car loans or student loans. Currently trying to pay off the house aswell lol 😎
credit cards aren’t bad
Lmao no more credit cards
Ramsey is great for the everyday working blue collar person. However, if you want to achieve real success, Ramsey will not guide you correctly. You shouldn't fear debt. Billionaires have billions in debt. You don't grow wealth by being afraid to take risk. Smart risk is one of the best ways to advance in life. You have to get comfortable with debt to succeed in most area's. It is what it is. Debt is a tool to gain wealth, when used improperly however, as a tool to NOT gain wealth, its useless, and that applies for most regular people.

I’m willing to get a Tesla. And Ramen be hittin different, especially if it was a childhood friend.
Owning a Tesla would make sense financially on fuel. Especially the new model 3 for being such a good price
@Beau 300 miles in a Model X from Tesla’s fastest charger costs $25 as opposed to about $60 for the same range for a luxury SUV in California. I believe the battery replacement is covered for 8 years.
If you buy a very early production model, then costs will be high as it was for the Model S guy. But the Model 3 and Y are much simpler cars with lass costs spent for repairs. Features like regenerative breaking make it so you rarely have to change your brakes and the lack of maintenance outside of the AC also reduce repair costs
@Beau most people dont use fast charge tesla stations, its easier and much more cost effective to charge at home overnight for about 9 cent a kw, which translates to about 3 cents a mile, or about a dollar for 30 miles of range, as opposed to current gas prices which give you about 30 miles of range for one gallon, $3.50 a gallon on average, my tesla saves me about 2000 a year on gas.
@Beau I have, electric cars aren’t what they used to be. The next coming years the technology of electric cars will surpass the efficiency and practicality of conventional fuel vehicles. Not saying I don’t enjoy fuel powered vehicles but the way the industry is heading is EV. R&D is going into EV at a lot of auto manufacturers now aside from Tesla.

I’d likely be in a pillory if I put myself out there with an I4 Kia Stinger, especially since it is an automatic, but I just keep to myself and enjoy what I have. They can keep all of the negativity to themselves, I’m good. I’m glad you got out of your hole, it is a truly liberating feeling when you can step back and focus on what makes you happy and not others.
This is a bit of realism I really needed. I'm basically using every little bit of money I currently have to fix my car and buy mods
Bro, been there. It's rough
You know it's a good day when Bladed and Omni upload on the same day.
I happily bought a 2019 Camaro 2.0 4 cyl turbo and I don’t give a damn what others think. It’s a great car
I like this story. It's very real and this happens. I've found myself in those spots before and makes it really hard to move on in life with YOUR life, not one that you use to impress others.
An education in life. True friends, car scene. Jealous people! You create your destiny. Good video
After saving up since high school i bought my first car this summer and i didn't have to take up any loans and hopefully some day i'll buy my dream car... but I'm going to wait until i can afford it and also buying a home comes first 🙃
What's your dream car?
Man you will be waiting a long time if you go about life that way, you only live once... Enjoy your life while you can.
That’s Smart steer clear of debt best as possible it’s not worth it always pay in cash
That’s Smart steer clear of debt best as possible it’s not worth it always pay in cash
Keep thinking like that, house will be an asset and cars only loose value so getting a house first will be a great idea..
This was a great video! Currently in the last year of grad school and really wanting a new car, but this video helped ground me
This was sad. Didn't seen it coming where people just unloaded on you with the negativity, really sucks. Thanks for opening up and being real.
Buy what you love and drive what you buy, don't let other people decide what you buy.
Nobody hates on my Mazda 3
It blends in like Waldo
Helping me stack cash
16 inch wheels means cheap tires, comfortable ride, and no curb rash
Yo i got a mazda 6 with 16s and stacking cash aswell 😂
@Scotty loves Chrysler’s well let me tell you this im from Europe and in my area insurance and road tax on a mustang would cost about 2k a month so ya Bill Gates here I come
Crazy how this pops up in my recommendation as a 22 year old thats freshly outta college lookin to get a new car soon. Think ill just play it smart till im REALLY up later in life 💯
Bro, thank you for sharing your experience. Im in a similar situation but with an '08 mustang v6. The car is nice but has a lot of miles on it and now needs to most likely have the brakes replaced, clutch or transmission checked, and suspension parts replaced too. Im just out of college living on my own with no one else for financial support. The story behind how I ended up with the car is a whole fiasco but long story short: truly consider what favors you do for people & it's ok to say no even if it's family. My family did not guide me into car ownership...much less on how to maintain a vehicle or the costs that come with it. Unfortunately I'm just realizing it now on my own. I'd recommend that you all set your boundaries and do your research. It will save you a huge headache, let you sleep, and keep money in your pocket.
This is why I don’t use social media, only RUclips, use my time raising my kids right to care about what strangers think about me, and not having social media helps:3
Damn I'm gonna go get my Honda Fit detailed now for not ruining me financially
We'll still highly respect you because of the content you make, bro. The car you have makes no difference: let it be a Camaro 1SS or a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, you're still the same Omni Rider. Don't let the haters get to your head!
Remember that v6 mustang is faster than probably majority of cars at the meets. Also I've never had a bad encounter at a meet and I drive a "Wrong wheel drive" Focus ST. Everybody at the meets in the PNW have been very supportive.
This was recommended right after I was looking at a w204 AMG 😂
Graduated college 2019, and my first ever car i got when i got my first job a few months after graduating was a 2019 civic sport. Beautiful car and low monthly payments!
Refinanced a year later and cut my finance in half! Its nice not being “car poor”
I want a hatchback or an si still affordable but with a little bit more balls
Just got my first job out of college and I was looking at stupid expensive cars. Thankful for this video, definitely copping a used hyundai now.
Man I always wondered about what happened. Good story man keep up. Still love GTIs as well.
I had everything. I bought my GT86 with my life savings. I crashed my car and I have nothing.
If you can’t afford it twice, then you can’t afford it at all. The only thing you should ever take a loan out to buy is a house.
Straight bs. Just because you dont have 10k in your savings doesnt mean you cant afford a 5k used car. House loans are, atleast here in Germany (I cant speak for the US because I dont know the laws) a VERY big money trap which can put you in huge debt. The sidewalk needs to berenwed? Guess what, now you gotta chip in a sh*t ton of money. You didnt plan in enough money for enterior repairation. Now you sit on another loan. House loans are for decades, a car loan not. Even if you made a mistake, you will manage 5-8 years. Your house hase unforseen problems? Guess now you have a problem for the next 30 years. The world isnt black and white. Apply to your own life and dont blindly follow a statement made buy a dude that made millions. Just my 2 cents tho, after finishing school and earning my own money and managing savings.
Yeah
Thank you so much for this fr. Idek if this is a coincidence or not but I was just about to get a mustang gt from the dealership and pay monthly and you just changed my mind. And made me realize that I need to be smarter. I think I’m going to get a used car now thank you!
I appreciate the honesty of your video. I didn't realize the car meet scene was so toxic. But good message, you should never rate your own happiness based on other people's opinions
To think you could’ve just saved 5k back then and bought a used v8 mustang and been satisfied for these years.
Fr!
No he wouldn't be satisfied cuz people would still have made fun of him for having a gt
@@AGNDAHOUSE people will make fun of him for having any mustang model.
@@vargasaidan7366 People will make fun of you for owning a car no matter how unique or powerful it is.
@@AGNDAHOUSE What's wrong with he GT. Planning on seeing one tommorrow.
Muscle cars were my biggest money pit and financial regrets now that I am older and wiser.
Props for being open about this. I bought my dream car recently. A 2005 G35 coupe, 9k cash. I'm so happy.
Good for you man. This hits pretty close to home for me and definitely went through some tough times due to swapping out cars often. That negative will destroy you lol.
Thankfully I'm more into the VIP cars so I got a 2005 LS 430 in keeping forever. Paid off and reliable. I get haters to but they ain't paying my bills.
I almost bought a LS 430 but I opted for something newer however I wanna get me an LS430 soon even if as a second car
Moral of the story: Don’t buy a V6 mustang
Sti isn’t beating a tuned cyclone let alone a boosted one on a stock block 630 wheel. More than what a subi can say and good luck pushing that power on stock internals lmao.
@@ValentinnPR Hey guys look it’s a V6 owner trying to justify buying a V6 by saying IF it was boosted he could beat a 4 cylinder boosted car! 😱
Thanks for sharing man! Wish u nothing but the best.
This is what teachers and parents have been warning us about all our lives, don’t listen to negative peer pressure and accept yourself
