99% of the budget of this show was spent on Donkey Kong's VA.
I think his speaking and singing roles were done by different people but I could be wrong. I know the singer sang in OK KO probably as like a nod to this.

Yeah, the singing voice for Candy was great and K.Rool's singing fit the character so well.

"I'm Nobody's Hero" is probably my favorite out of all of these. It feels like a genuine song created from DK's personal frustrations, with pure emotion poured into it, rather than just a song shoehorned in to fill up a quota. Not to say the other songs don't slap in their own way, of course.

@@zarrg5611 The animation in DKC TV being mocapped adds to the inherent jank of it. It's like seeing someone put reload animations from Modern Warfare 2019 on Counter Strike 1.6 models.

I'm actually surprised how sweet DK and Candy's relationship actually is. Even when DK basically wrote her the banana equivalent of "100 bottle of beer on the wall", she still loved it and even danced. She's the type who's worth showering in coconut cream pies for.
Yeah, and then you see how she acts in like 90% of the rest of the show. She calls off dates for one banana peel slip (that wasn't even DK, she just assumes), turns down DK's birthday gift because Bluster acted rude even though DK was completely sincere...there's definitely more.

I like it's just a bad set of circumstances that make her mean. Dead end and lonely job, constant harassment from her boss, few safe places to visit, almost no possibility of advancing personal ambitions, and stuck in the middle of a war that regularly gets in the way of daily living.
With a life like that, I see it pretty easy to snap at a doof of a significant other that can easily boch your day or your societies chance of a future.
Vinny's shriek of terror at "coconut creampies" is the best reaction.

There's quite a few good songs in this show, I like Pirate's Scorn, Tell Me Everything, Gotta Get it Back/Take it Back, The Booty Boogie, The Mirror Never Lies. Seriously these all randomly get in my head all the time, this show has way better music than it should

Both Alestom and Gloryhammer are shitpost/joke bands. They're just played-straight loving-parodies of power metal culture instead of constantly winking at the camera like shit like Steel Panther (and are actually talented). And it's an approach I vastly prefer both musically and comically. They did a cover of "You Are A Pirate" ffs, and it's metal AF.
With that in mind, I would KILL to hear Alestorm do an arrangement of Gangplank Galleon and Crocodile Cacophony.
Those tracks are like tailor made for Pirate Metal covers. The Brawl OST version of Gangplank Galleon even sounds kind of like them already.

Dude was happily going to pass up on an adventure for treasure because he had a date with his girlfriend, and was having none of Diddy and Funky's literal song and dance trying to convince him to go, with him only finally caving when presented with the idea of being able to get a really nice gift for Candy

Bowser and DK might be the most fun Nintendo characters to voice, but Rogen's DK is kind of just him talking like normal. And it's especially noticeable compared to Grant and Takashi's much more over-the-top voices for DK.
It's a case where he COULD be a really good DK if he was given better direction, which I hope he is in future projects. As it stands though, I'm still mixed.

Personally I still can’t believe Ben Campbell’s still got it after all these years; it’s like he, Richard, and Adrian all haven’t aged a day, they just slipped right back into their roles so easily. I will never not love this fanbase 💚

Makes me wonder if Vinny's gonna check out that fan animation, Return to Krocodile isle that popped up recently. It brought back the VAs and it's absolutely gorgeous, it absolutely feels like a love letter to all things DKC that I know Vin would grin.

Despite having never watched this show while it actually ran on TV, I unironically love the DKC TV show. It's silly 3d models, mocap dances and funny music captivated me. K Rool's sassy voice is my favorite voice for him idc.
Exactly the same! I had only watched this for the first time a good 10-12 years ago but I'm enamored with it. The 3D models looking weird fits fine with the time that it released, the music is great, and the voice acting is just iconic in general. Love that it's available on YT to watch for free. It's a perfect turn-your-brain-off lighthearted show with some surprisingly fun personality added to characters that you'd otherwise barely see any lines from.
While I'm not into how off-model everyone is (especially Candy) and I don't get all the changes to the setting and world, I probably would've watched this as a kid.
I still feel like the deep, sinister sinister voice they gave K. Rool in DK64 is is my fave though. It just fits the whole "giant hulking psycho crocodile" thing way better to me.

I used to replay Pirate's Scorn over and over on my vhs copy. It's likely the origin of my love of pirate and folk rock. Fun fact, Alestorm, a pirate metal band, did a metal cover of this song, which was a nostalgic blast from the past for me. XD

I love how 90% of these songs are over the most mundane, stupid things, like Cranky's hologram simply just telling DK that Diddy can't push a fucking button. But goddamn if they didn't go all out with the lyrics and insttumentals. Most of these songs are actual bangers. And I'm so glad K. Rool's VA is in that new DK fan animation where he sings. Donkey Kong's VA in this show is alright at like voicing DK normally but that man SERVED when it came to singing. He makes these goofy songs actually slap a little.

Different actors for singing and voicing
I'm a Canadian who grew up with this show in a house that only had 3 channels for a period of time; I genuinely had no idea the show was Canadian made (French Canadian, but close enough). It ultimately resulted in this stream, so I won't apologize.
Apparently it was really big in Japan too.
I remember this being one of the various launch programs on Teletoon. I really knew it was Canadian because you could see that Canadian flavour on so much of the channels programming.

I love how you can tell their rendering software couldn't handle more than 3 characters on screen at once, so any scenes with more than that have the extras standing like statues in the background
I never watched a lot of this show as a kid but I remembered the moment I heard cranky's voice I thought that was the perfect actor to do it and would be the voice I hear in my head for him all the time. Same goes for Sonic adventure 1 and "Adventures of Sonic" Eggman voice actors.

Donkey Kong Country wound up being very popular in Japan basically being considered an Anime, even having 2 songs playable in Donkey Konga 3.
And the Japanese voice actress for Jessie from Pokémon was the voice of Diddy.
All cartoons are "considered anime" in japan. It's the literal term for animation/cartoons in japanese.
It also apparently has an INSANE amount of merch. I know that's like a given for any piece of media in japan, but like enough to be noteworthy even over there.

I watched the entirety of this show on VHS tapes I begged my father to buy from a rural Ontario Canada General store in the mid 2000s I keep convincing myself it was a fucking fever dream until the VHS tapes randomly appear in my home like they are straight out of the ring

From what I know the singer for DK's singing voice is a guy named Sterling Jarvis hes known for his amazing singing talent in alot of media and shows as hes won awards for it IRL. Although Im not sure if hes the OG Voice for DK though and not just his singing voice.
Edit: It turns out the Voice Actor and The Singing Actor are 2 different people yet they sound similar its scary :O

When I discovered “I’m nobody’s hero” I was so surprised, not only I was amazed of how good his VA was in the show, and then I got shot because the song was really good
I was delighted to see Binty's reaction to "I'm Nobody's Hero", it's a masterpiece.
I love Cranky's voice in this it's so phelgmy and angry - it fits too well.
If Vinny decides to continue this, I hope he checks out the "Return to Krocodile Isle" short on RUclips. Awesome fan-made production that doubles as a genuine reunion for some of the show's VAs. Also, "Pirate's Scorn" was covered by a real Pirate Metal band and the same channel uploaded an animated music video for it which also rocks. For all the ironic laughs this show brings, I really do kind of love it. There's something so genuine about it, and I come back to it all the time.
That little nerd in chat bad talking No One's Going to Make a Monkey Out of Me and making Vinny backtrack his praise upset me more than it should have. Unironically one of my faves from this show.

What’s truly bizarre is that a lot of the songs in this show are unironically really freaking catchy and are actually pretty well done at least instrumental wise.
Glad we got to see the COCONUT CREAM PIE moment and vin’s reaction to it, the minecart segment is also fun due to how sad the characters looked during that 😂

Not gonna lie, I like Cranky's voice here more than the one in Super Mario Bros movie. He sounds older, crustier and just... Crankier.
While I find his voice to be extremely unfitting of my fave big dumb swole gorilla boi, there is no denying that DK's singing va has a fantastic voice.

I'm the same age as Vinny but I watched the whole series end to end (it was aired in my country on Saturday mornings). That was my first ever exposure to Donkey Kong. After watching this CGI series I played DKC on the SNES expecting that it would look exactly like on TV, was not disappointed

I remember watching this before church on Sundays as a little kid, but only sundays. I can't remember it ever being on any other time lol
honestly, I've always had sympathy for this show. There was a clear passion and at least care put into it. It may not look good now, but I think its visual movement and definitely its songs have a lot of charm and effort put into it.
