I believe this is the tamest performance I've ever seen from Jerry. He really gets after it in his younger days.

I saw him perform when i was a kid in the 60's. He truly was a wild man back then. I somehow managed to get backstage & get his autograph on the show program along with his cousin Mickey Gilley. I still have it after all these decades haha

Jerry wanted to "close the show" (be the last act), but was put on next to last, so as he finished he set the piano on fire and said, "Follow that". Killer lore.

I don’t know where Jerry Lee is from, but Wild One and Great Balls a’fire are definitely in the Memphis rockabilly style of early rock and roll…..50’s style. Great Balls of Fire was one of the first radio hits I remember as a child, back in 1957.

fun fact: he and Elvis were part of what was called the 'million dollar quartet'(there is a photo on the wall at Sun Studio of them together).....he and Elvis only lived about 8 miles from each other! he at the Lewis Ranch in Nesbit, MS and Elvis of course at Graceland in south Memphis near the MS state line.

Back in the day when I was in the concert biz I was the production manager on a Jerry Lee Lewis show. In addtion to sound, lights & staging I brought a 9' Steinway Concert Grand piano for him to play. Before the show I took his production manager aside and told him to let Jerry know that I would be very upset if he used anything but his hands, like his feet for instance, to play that piano. He complied. It was still a great show. ;O)
PS That piano was previously owned by Willie Nelson, who we did a lot shows at the time.

greetings and love from Germany again. The very young Jerry Lee was influenced by boogie woogie, rhythm and blues, as well as gospel and country music; he combined all styles in his piano playing. By the time he was 14, he already had the style he would later use in his recordings: with his left hand he would create a strong boogie-woogie background, while on the right he would play fast, gospel-infused melodies.
Yes, Jerry Lee married his cousin's daughter in 1958. So his niece second degree, which is allowed in most countries.Yes, she was 13 years young. What nearly ended his carreer. Priscilla Presley was 14 when she moved into Graceland to live with Elvis. They had no problems. That was in America in the fifties/sixties. In all states, minors are also allowed to marry with parental consent and/or a court. In some states, this is not required if the bride is pregnant. The minimum age is between 12 and 17 years old, depending on the state, but 27 states do not have a legal minimum age. It sounds crazy, right. Well, Jerry Lee was also a fighter. Jerry Lee's records were taken off the radio programs. Lewis had no choice but to play in small clubs. It wasn't until the early 1960s that he laboriously worked his way back to the top. He had a few hits and was gradually accepted by the public again. However, the great era of rock 'n' roll was over, and so the big success failed to materialize. As the last survivor of the famous so-called "Million Dollar Quartet" (which also included Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins), he released the album Last Man Standing in 2006 with 22 guest stars, including Jimmy Page, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Tom Jones and Rod Stewart. In 2010, Lewis released the follow-up album, Mean Old Man, which also featured a host of high-profile guest stars.
In October 2014, his new album Rock & Roll Time was released. Even in his 80s, Lewis was still touring regularly, but after suffering a stroke in February 2019, he had to temporarily stop playing due to losing control of his right hand. In February 2020, he declared that he could play the piano again and announced a new album. Jerry Lee Lewis died on 28 October 2022 at the age of 87. Hell Yeah, he was the Killer. BTW..the nickname Killer was given to him in school by a classmate after Jerry attempted to strangle one of his teachers in a brawl....At least that's how it's told. Hope to see more of him here on your channel. Have a peaceful weekend and stay safe...
