It's seriously impressive how effective all the different spells/incantations can be in this game. Major props to Fromsoftware for making them sick as hell and the players for being nutty with them.
Bunch of people on Reddit complain that glintstone pebble is the only good spell just because it happens to have amazing dmg per fp. But there are so many more useful and badass spells
I don't get why all these melee builds with maybe one ranged ability see a dedicated caster and decide they want to just fight at a distance or bloodhound step for like 2 minutes. Theyre going to run out of health before you run out of fp flasks
I agree cause it's true, close the gap my dude but with gold bros on invasions I def let them run out of mana and become useless. Really is situational like 99% of the time there's no need to play from afar.
They can't come close cuz they'll lose. The star rain spell protects him. There are a lot of spells protect like that. Maiden's mist, the bubbles, that huge AoE blizzard that lingers after you cast it. Sorceries look like they're designed to play keep away.
@@porkerpete7722 its all about pressure, if you pressure them enough they will either run out of flasks or wont have time to drink flasks. if you cant end the fight instantly, youre gonna have to play the long game and that puts you at the disadvantage if youre the one invading.
Watching a duel it's crazy how much more freedom casters have instead of an invasion. In a duel you don't heal so you can turn all flasks into cerulean and have no other enemies to worry about or use spells on, duels are really where casters shine.
Eh? Is it supposed to be easier to take on multiple people at once as a melee player? I'd think casters shine there too with their options for dealing with multiple people.
@@JammyJam5588 My point is that as pure melee character in pve and invasions you have no reason to have blue flasks except for maybe weapon arts but in a 'no healing' duel red flasks are worthless. Meanwhile in pve a mage is expected to carry around enough red flasks not to have to run back to the bonfire too much but enough to use the powerful expensive spells you find, while in duels ALL flasks can be converted to blue and drank without worrying about longevity because its a 'no healing' rule not a 'no rp regen' duel.
I always enjoy watching your mage gameplay because you're actually skilled at it and not just using sorcery as a crutch. You've got a bunch of different spells that you all use for different scenarios and it's always interesting to watch and try to figure out exactly why you used that spell over another.
at about 0:43 the invader does the first potion to heal of the fight, at that point the host is allowed to heal by my books, generally speaking I agree, using a potion to heal is bad taste.

You tried using a rapier (any weapon) with the "determination" ashes of war art? 10 seconds of double damage is pretty insane with little to none fp cost (better than glintstone I believe).
If you put the ash of war determination on a dagger and equip it in your right hand, activate it, then cast spells with any staff in your left hand, you'll get way more damage until the dagger stops glowing white
@@ElJayEmCee You can actually get a lot of mileage out of the red lighting weapon skills. Bolt of Gransax's skill has an incredibly effective ranged attack while Dragon King's Cragblade's skill has an active hitbox for its entire animation. I spec'd 20 strength, 50 Dex, and 40 Mind. Which optimizes both weapons and lets you spam their respective arts ad nauseam.
Lusat's will be the go-to imo, carried me through the game for sure; the extra FP usage means little imo when your spells do so much more damage. Though, the meteorite staff is great for doing really good damage while keeping FP usage normal, which is great when not fighting bigger enemies.
for early i think Meteorite Staff is good enough to carry until mid-late game (you can change to demi queen staff (after upgrade) for better scalling). for late game, it depends on what type of spell you use or what you feel is lacking from your spell. example: if you use a long casting spell, you can use Azur's Glintstone Staff. I usually use Lusat's Glintstone Staff (better damage but high use fp) and Carian Regal Scepter (normal, highest sorcery scaling)

@@Dylan_Shaw I seen a test thread on reddit where it showed that lusats 10% extra damage is actually included in its scaling. So if true then Carian at high int actually does more damage. Need to see more testing to confirm though.

I’m planning to buy the game soon and I was wondering about viability of running a mage with mainly melee spells. Not that it will stop me from building one but I’d like to get a rough idea of how tough I may have it
Really tough. Since unlike a melee class you’d have to worry about Mind and Int along with vigor instead of just vigor and one stat like traditional melee.
It's doable in the late game, but you'll have a very rough time in early-mid game. Definitely possible, but FP will be a major concern. That's why most int builds also grab an int scaling weapon to pair with their staves
@@skuggikuwa8989 spells you can use in melee... the Carian line of spells are primarily melee focused (and flavored a lot with swords), as well as spells like Gavel of Haima (the hammer spell that's being used) Scholar's Armaments enchants your weapon to do magic damage and is similar as to coat your weapon in fire and stuff like that.
What I hope Fromsoft does after Elden Ring is a game entirely balanced around Magic combat. Kinda like Sekiro is balanced entirely for melee, taking that aspect of souls combat to an extreme. I want to see what from can do with magic when it is the default, and not an optional easy mode.

If only the faith/arcane guy would use his spells in the proper range besides the lightning spear. He should have used those dragon incantations they get pretty op with aoe damage thats hard to dodge. That endgame sword art looks to be easily dodged and not good for pvp I just got it and it wrecks in pve. Hopefully you will get a better faith/arcane build challenger since this guy didn't know what he was doing. You play sorcery pretty good.
How does PVP work? Does you level attack power scale so both players are on an even playing field or can you just be super high level and destroy everyone?
I know power isnt scaled, it will only allow you to invade people who are within a range of levels from you, so if you level cap in elden ring you wont really ever get to invade anyone. Thats why a meta usually forms of the PvP standard level at which you can expect to dual others and invade.
So is it possible for a melee build to defeat a mage one? XD magic in this game is amazing but I have been sticking to melee, thinking of rolling a second character

@@macky6729 Getting hit by the moonveil seems to be secondary to the fact it does higher single hitting damage than some colossal weapons with 3 times the speed and extended range. Nothing to do with fights. It just statistically doesn’t fit right into the game and will be changed.

All the spells seem perfectly fine except the multi laser chase spell. How are you even supposed to avoid that? Is it possible to dodge all the lasers? but even if you do he instantly casts another and its spammable.
radagon's icon shortens the cast time of sorceries and incantations. Take a right going outside of the gate from the debate hall (in raya lucaria) grace and there should be a platform you can drop down to. Pretty much a must have for caster builds.
Why play in the range of a sorcerer your literally putting yourself in a disadvantage. Either back way up or blitz rush the, guy had like what 4 heals maximum? Take them outside their comfort zone and these wizards are a gg

You have multiple bullet-hell spells. Most sorceries have the same casting animation. If you're able to hold it like a gun people would just use the beam and rollcatch every time.

Why'd you heal if it is a 1v1? Frowned upon the heal unless it's a gank or the opponent healed first.

Basic faith attacks take too long to cast. That’s why most use a faith/str or dex hybrid

u need to push mages basically keeping distance just make it worse
The game is made for playing all the styles ^^ Make as many toons as you want, takes no time to catch up with your main character :)
Be wary if you do use a magic only build, you might get hit by the feeling of unaccomplishment and boredom from a lack of actual fighting
