excellent info. I have learned most techs in the field have no idea what a muffler is, what it does or how to even troubleshoot it for restrictions👍

Good video refer guy. I've been in the field for a few years and haven't come across a muffler yet. I heard about them though. Thanks again

Thank you for the video and very well explained Sir.
In the Goodman condensing units I sometime see a device that looks very similar to a filter drier installed by manufacturer on the liquor line by the compressor.
Is it possible that device is a muffler?

York! York actually uses an actual spun copper drier in place of a muffler on their discharge lines, at least on their predator units. I'm not sure if they stuck with that for their sun series or not

Does it matter what size of filter drier you use as long as you compensate with adding or subtracting refrigerant depending on whether the thing is bigger or smaller than the original or manufacturer recommended?? Just wondering for 2 reasons.. the unit im working on blew a line slick out of the side of the compressor and has gotten no telling how much crap in it and they dont make the filter on the parts list anymore so i was gonna purge and put an over size filter on just to pickup any of that crap and still have room to work... am i wrong in my thinking?

I wouldn’t think so, but i only use the recommended drier size. Rarely will I out a bigger one in.

Is it Bad to run without a muffler? My unit is an older R22 and has a hole in the tube. We were gonna run a new tube and just eliminate the muffler in the process to make it easier since it’s tight for space. It’s a 2.5 ton Goodman unit. Thanks

moore fab no, many units do not have mufflers. It’s really for units that may have a reversing valve right after the discharge line. Or larger systems that have larger compressors that cause pulsation sin the refrigerant flow.
