I am completely lost. My endocrinologist and PCP both said I have low a.m. cortisol. It has been tested four times and still comes back at a 5.7. I don’t have Addison’s disease according to the more extensive test she did where she injected me with cortisol, and then made me wait to do a second blood test an hour later. She basically just sent me on my way to figure it out myself and didn’t do anything about it or tell me anything I can do about it but instead focused on prescribing me weight loss medication for only 15 pounds of weight loss needed. The system disappoints me so much these days, I have no clue what to do so I am intermittent fasting and doing lifestyle changes that I have research can help.

Most doctors only know how to prescribe medications. If there isn’t a medication for your condition then they often don’t know what to do.
Look for a functional medicine doctor. They are trained to find the root cause.

Do NOT do intermittent fasting for low cortisol. Hunger is a stressor and will make your adrenal issues even worse. You should be eating as regularly as possible. I'm sure you found this out already.

For years I have nausea on waking. No medical professional has been able to help. Could this be low morning cortisol? I have done a test and it shows this.

Very useful and informative, thank you. I wonder if the effects of inhaled or oral corticosteroids, such as asthma inhalers, on cortisol levels might be addressed also? Thanks.

Doc, when I wake up every morning my body craves food, especially carbs so much to addiction withdrawal levels.
What does this mean...High or low cortisol?
And what is the best time window to eat and what to eat?

Very very interesting it makes a lot of sence! I will test my ACTH.
I have low Cortisol and my Melatonin in salvia at 2am(night) is extremely low. Maybe I have really slep apnea. My VEGF in Serum is very high that could be from apnea too right?

Spot on .... people are getting confusing . But the doctors should acknowledge that in this day and age people are profoundly stressed and often for years , off course there cortisol will be low.
They know this . Perhaps they should explain It properly as you have .
Well well explained thank you very much

I wish there was a doctor that could solve my problem. Autoimmune/11mm growth on left adrenal/ cortisol under 1/ anger / patience problems/ belly/ sleepy during the day/ always yawning/wake up and can't get to sleep/ loss of vision/ mild pain on both rear flanks at time/ along with other symptoms. This has been going on for 5 years and has gotten worse. Labs every year/ abnormal/ and nothing being done. I should probably find another hospital.

I have Hashimoto’s and low adrenals. What can we do to increase morning low cortisol? I am not sure if keeping away from electronics a few hours before bedtime, eating breakfast within an hour after waking up, getting early morning sun will help people with Hashimoto’s. Has anyone tried this who has Hashimoto’s?

I went to the hospital about eight months ago and they said I had Addison’s disease I’m not on any medication and I have no energy is been a nightmare. I’m trying on high vitamin D and K2 magnesium and salmon oil and I put salt under my tongue and salt in my water every day I have to battle with this no energy sometimes I’ll do a little OK but I’m back down again. My back hurts and my head is not normal. Has anyone able to straighten their adrenals out without medication? I’m trying to get myself better because I’m not on medication right now.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ABOUT A SALIVA TEST THAT SHOWED LOW LATE MORNING AND LOW LATE AFTERNOON BUT NORMAL AT OTHER TIMES? IS THAT CONSIDERED LOW CORTISOL? THE REPORT SHOWED STAGE 1 OF ADRENAL FATIGUE. I CAN ONLY TOLERATE A LITTLE OF THYROID MEDS AND BODY TEMP IS VERY LOW MOST OF THE DAY. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO STRESS.

Hi,how about low night time cortisol, i wake up many times which is my only problem, during the day is okay even tho my sleep is terrible, liquorice root and oats at night help but not always, and its easy to over do liquorice root. if i could mainatain stable blood sugar (cortisol) at night that would be perfect. i cant easy fruits, even when i ate too much sweet potatoes recently i had blood sugar fluctuations. it use to be worse tho. its just if i dont eat carbs through out the day and night i will crush, any idea how to help with night time low cortisol/blood sugar???
