Yep I spend minimum 1000 dollars a year on protective styles for my hair because I simply don’t have the patience for it it’s always in box braids or twists or something else
@@Peacebewithu34 now that I think of it; between buying extensions and paying hairdressers, it's actually that much if you do your hair every 6 weeks which was my routine!
Given the context and history of this country I can understand why people are perturbed by her decision. It is still her decision of course but people are allowed to have their opinions on it. Obviously their opinions don’t change an outcome because here we are watching her make her decision
@My Opinion it doesn’t matter if her hair was 3a, 3c, 4a or whatever! That’s the problem, yall are always in people’s business. What people choose to do what their hair, is their business. Because she texlax her hair she doesn’t like her 4c hair ? Cmon now. She never said that and her viewers never said they didn’t like her hair. Bringing negativity for no reason, go sit down.
@American Born Just because she does share her personal life on RUclips doesn’t mean anyone has the right to tell her what she can and cannot do with her hair. Y’all have this very twisted idea that people can say whatever to influencers on RUclips. Obviously you don’t understand the meaning of “mind your business” so you should probably sit this one out too.
I’m not a hater. I followed that girls video too. Ended up loving it. Then ended up hating the dryness. Then got locks. With some Post partum shedding months later my behind is back to a twa. Moral of the story : None just sharing my journey lol
I know right, been there done that. There is no in-between. You are either Natural or Relaxer. There is nothing like in-between. Texlaxed dries the hair and the follow-up relaxer makes it even worse. I learned after my 2nd big chop. I'm done with messing with my hair.
TIP: Make sure your texlax recipe and processing time is the same each time you do a touch up. If not, you'll end up over time with different textures all over your head which will cause tangles later. Speaking from experience!
You are very right, I had a relaxer and my hair was naturally type 4, after relaxing it many times my hair turned wavy with some areas with little curl. Had to perm my already damaged hair, and now have a big chop
For those complaining about dryness; When you texlax your hair treat it as relaxed hair. Use relaxed hair products and relaxed hair protocols . Using natural hair products will work against your hair. So do your research, take care of you, do what makes you happy and be-you-tiful!
Currently transitioning from relaxer but i will texlax some day. The struggle of dealing with 4c requires Jesus and all His angels. Guess what exactly 9months after my big chop, i am going back! I almost threw my whole head out, I can’t 😭
I am loving how hair care for us black women is changing. Do whatever you want with your hair. Natural, relaxed, straightened, colored, it's all good as long as you are happy. I became natural when I was 13 and for a long time I thought that I could not have fun with my hair if I was natural and it was only during quarantine that I decided f- it and went and dyed my hair bright red and cut it really short. It was hideous and I hated it but it was fun and then I had orange hair and now I have a purple bob cut and I straighten my hair all the time and I feel great. I'm tired of people judging us for how our hair looks and I'm glad that more black women are caring less. Do what you want 😁
I had never heard of texlaxing till I saw this now I’m interested. Because your hair still looks very natural but it seems easier to deal with and I want that, I’m over this natural stuff because my hair stay braided because that’s easier way for me to deal with it. I’m impressed.
If you are committed to the maintenance then sure go for it. I was texlaxed, but it eventually became a nightmare. I recommend Brazilian Keratin - less permanent damage
Girl.... you won't regret doing this. I relaxed my hair after being natural for 7 years. I have no regrets at all and I do not care for anyone's opinion. My hair still feels and looks healthy. Your hair looks gorgeous 😍 😍 😍
I’ve seen so many people go back to relaxer, after many years of being natural. Most of them, say they have no regrets and their hair is healthy. It makes me wonder, if the commonality is the natural hair journey itself. I’m not ready to take that leap yet, but I for some reason find these videos enjoying. Stay Be-you-tiful ☺️
@GeminII* I’m not disputing that they’re enjoying their lower-maintenance hair journey, but most of these girls who are back to relaxers have barely reached a year post relaxer. Follow the ones who’ve been in the game much longer and you’ll see what I’m talking about 👇🏾 The first few months are usually bliss. Then the dryness and brittleness begins. And it just progressively gets worse until your hair feels like watering a plastic plant - the water just doesn’t penetrate! Plus I notice this is especially true for 4c hair. For some reason, type 3 hairs take to relaxer muuuch better than 4c. Anyway, only time will tell
@@MM-we4no -Yes, after reading more comments, I noticed just a few comments, complain of dryness, brittleness and breaking. The time being natural varied (if they mentioned it, at all). As you’ve stated it has much to do with technique. For those that are seeing these issues, I believe it’s because they’re attempting to treat the hair, as though, there’s nothing to be done, except wash, blow dry, flat iron and go. (Probably overusing heat as well) They believe the maintenance is simpler, than it actually is. You can no longer treat the hair, as you did in its natural state, and you can’t quite treat it, like relaxed hair. The chemical bonds have been changed; therefore the fabric of the hair has changed. The most important of those is porosity and texture. That’s why I love the comment sections, because there’s so much to learn and so many questions can be asked and answered. People of African Descent, have the most versatile and beautiful hair on the planet 😍.
@GeminII* sorry, to be clear, I didn’t mean the duration of time that they were natural before they went to relaxed/texlaxed. I mean, the duration of time within which they have been relaxed/texlaxed. Just like with bleach, the first few months post relaxer are usually ok, then you start to see the effects of the damage Also, I don’t think it has anything to do with them not deep conditioning their hair - these YTers I’m referring to still used to DC, moisturize and seal. I also speak from experience as I’ve relaxed my hair thrice in my life, and didn’t use heat a lot during those times But once the relaxer process effs up your hair - ie if it’s over processed or maybe the lye doesn’t work well with your hair - there’s no amount of deep conditioning and protein treatments you can do to restore it. In the end, it’ll just break off.
I was previously natural, but pinning for straight hair or looser curls every damn day. Then I relaxed my hair and immediately got bored. I missed my shrinkage and volume and resented giving it up just to rock a short straight hairdo. I made my hair straight and it wasn't the best version of straight hair according to me. I would need a sew in to achieve the volume and length I wanted. So why didn't I just get a sew in with a closure in the first place? Now I'm three years natural and trying not to make permanent decisions for temporary problems. I'm enjoying my journey now.
I had to google what texlax was. Do not take away my Black card. Have had locs for 22 years. Had no clue. I sincerely didn't know. Just another way of saying texturized. Got it! It looks nice.
Someone please help me to understand. I've be relaxing my hair for about 30 years and it is bone straight. Would that be considered as texlax? If not what exactly is the difference? Thanks.
@@sylviaruth5008 No yours wouldn’t be considered texlaxed. Relaxed is when you get it chemically processed to be bone straight , no kinks. Texlaxed is putting chemicals in it but still having texture and volume. Some people texlaxed and still have curls just looser
I just feel like people have to do what’s best for them. When my hair was relaxed I felt like it was it’s healthiest actually. So I can never agree when people say that relaxing eventually shows damage and that it’s ongoing. I went to the same person for years and got my new growth relaxed around every eight weeks. My hair was mid back growing and thriving. I felt like I started having issues once I hopped on the natural train. I’ve been thinking about texlaxing. I was never ignorant to the differences in upkeep of natural or relaxed hair. I’m pretty serious about my hair care. But I too am tired sometimes lol. I’m not trying to look European. I would actually love if my curls would pop. But they just don’t. It’s been 5/6 years. I have 4c hair that is below bra strap when stretched but ear length with the shrinkage. It is such a struggle. Natural just not for everybody and I been questioning if it’s still for me for a while now. I workout daily sometimes 2x a day and I spend so much time trying to manage my hair that I personally don’t get to fully enjoy it. Taking care of the hair that’s coming from your head is a personal experience. I didn’t go natural to only wear braids, wigs, and “protective styles” etc. I wanted to enjoy my hair out in its natural state and I don’t. I don’t enjoy the journey lol. I don’t idc. I’m seriously thinking about doing this.
I'm with you, I thought I'd enjoy natural hair way more but I just feel like a prisoner to protective styles. I'm in between a rock and a texlax for realllll ☹😭😭😭
Same! My mom permed my hair when I was younger and that was the longest my hair had ever been until now. I went natural in middle school but my hair became so damaged because I didn’t have the patience to deal with it and I was an athlete. I went back to texturized last march and my hair is just passed shoulder length. I’m noticing that my hair thrives in this state rather than it’s natural state. Like you said, I just can’t agree with people when they say that relaxers/texturizers are damaging because that’s just not my experience. Everybody is different and everybody is entitled to do what they want with their hair. I think the natural hair community has become toxic and judgemental.
I recently started getting blowouts and love it! I love having natural hair because relaxers were causing hair loss. But I’ve gotten tired of the same hairstyle and headbands 😂 now I have versatility without chemicals ✅💖
@@nataliemarcus5829 I agree with the toxicity within the natural hair community. I think I would have gone back to relaxing a long time ago if it weren’t for the imposed shame and accusations of rejecting your heritage and wanting to be something you’re not if you relax your hair. I’ve matured past letting those perceptions affect me. It’s not that deep over here. People need to stay in their lane...do what’s best for them and let others do the same.
I really don't think a lot of people who recently went natural, actually want to go natural, (as in embracing whatever naturally comes out of their scalp) but more so wanted someone else's hair. I have seen African people on this platform show surprise and disappointment at having Afro coily hair rather than curly, which is so confusing.
The black natural hair community was high jacked by the curly naturals (I'm not saying black people can't be type 3 but majority of us are type 4). We created this expectations because whenever we see natural hair being representated majority of the time its type 3 hair, also texturism doesn't help at all, people still discriminate textures like type 4b-4c hair. Lets not forget that type 4 hair is very dificult to deal with specially when you are not used to, a lot of these women where used to comb straight hair or loose curls. If we saw more representation of type 4 hair wether its weave/wigs or real hair, we encouraged mothers to not relax their daughters hair since young and we made type 4 hair as a standard probably many of these women wouldn't be confused or suprised about their coily textures.
Most go natural for hair length as natural hair grows faster and thicker . Than when it gets to the desired length they use a relaxer or some other type of treatment for longer and fuller loose curl or straight hair . No one can embrace and represent tighter natural hair better than the ones with that hair texture .
I noticed it is mostly type 4 curl pattern ladies who go back to relaxers. Particularly 4c. They never embraced their actual hair type, it was just the hype they fell for
Relaxed/texlaxed hair can definitely be healthy, and often I have seen it in better condition that some natural heads. The only time I have had problems or seen issues is some combination of relaxing too straight, relaxing too often, using a no-lye relaxer(eventually just dries your hair out), or heat styling far too often with relaxed hair(best to keep it occasional). If you relax your hair, condition it well, and mostly leave it alone like healthy natural heads do, you will end up with healthy relaxed hair.
Yes sis ! My hair is healthy both relaxed and natural ! I moisturize and seal everyday, wash once a week and stretch for 12 - 16 weeks between relaxers ! I couldn’t be happier 🙌🏽
I like that you mentioned leaving it alone and how important keeping it conditioned often just like natural hair. I feel like I am more educated about hair to the point where I can have healthy relaxed hair this time around. I love taking care of my hair but MAN my 4c hair is taking way too long to take care of not that it have grown since cutting my loc after post partum shedding. Now my hair is longer and I'm ready to be free from the long detangling times and the 50%+ shrinkage.
@@Key_1111 do you know if I can relaxed damaged hair, my hair is very dey and damaged but I'm tired of taking care of it, so do you know if I can still add the relaxer without hair loss?
@@no-bb2my Is all of your hair damage or only some? Can you cut off the damaged hair? A relaxer can make you lose ypur hair if your hair is not healthy.
Same here sista, I recently textlax my natural hair 1 year hair growth and a soon as I was done I regret it. Not doing the big chop anymore I will just let it grow like that pray and let God. Love ya.😘
I couldn't deal with the inconvenience of natural hair-all the deep conditioning, limited hairstyles that were actually predictable and the expense of trying new products that come in tiny bottles. I texlax now and am very happy with that. Everyone needs to do what's best for their personal situation. Good job on your texlax!
Girl! This Ghana 4c hair is something *different*. I've been natural for 6 years now and I've scheduled a relaxer appointment for next week. I'm tired too and my arms are done fighting, lol. Your hair looks great-- thanks Ohemaa :)
I tell you this Ghanaian hair is something else. I cut my hair because I didn’t know how to handle it and now it’s growing back and I am already looking up videos to texlax it. Chale I can’t come and stress myself
I love this, I've texturized my hair over 3 times but seriously it still looks all natural and even thicker although it's now easier for me to manage. Your came out beautiful and looking soft
How long have you been texlax? When I was texlax I found it hard to keep getting the exact texture each time. Some hair would be straight, some curly etc.
Heyy. I would really like to know how you did it and how it came out. I'm kinda embarrassed that I want to try it because I've been against relaxers for so long. How long are you supposed to leave it in and will my hair shed a lot after doing this. That's my main worry
@@francasmith445 hey babe my hair is still curly and soft I have straightening it as well and it’s still curly lol I do have a lot of thick hair, but it is more manageable and I wish I woulda did it sooner honestly. I can finally lay my edges lol I say just put it on your roots not all over and get it on quick and off fast and it’ll be perfect I love my hair now
I was scared at first because your natural hair is so healthy and beautiful, but this is cute on you and will be more manageable and versatile. DO YOU!!!
My hair must be 4Z🤣🤣, I tried texlaxing a few years ago and I kid you not my hair barely changed texture. It did thin out a bit but that was it. From that day I learned that what works for others might not work for me. My hair does whatever it wants 🤦🏾♀️
My only advice is to measure everything you add so when you do touch ups you get the same results. Your diluting the relaxer and you want the same solution every time to make it consistent!
I relaxed my hair all of middle and high school. Now I went natural all through college because I left my hair dresser (mom) at home and I am TIRED of it!! Everyone is up in arms about me wanting to get the korean straightening treatment because they love my hair and I'm like...okay YOU come wash it for me every week
I had someone tell me back in high school I'm so boring with my hair because I kept it in twists all the time. Like... pleeease come do my hair for me. See what you'd do with it. Anyways, beautiful hair love 💘
I hear this... and I'm not in high school lol my hair is tail bone length and I wear the laziest styles. I love doing other things besides doing my hair.
@My Opinion Seriously. These people are so quick to defend anyone regardless of what they do. She built her following out of the natural hair community. How can they be surprised people who advocate for wearing hair in its natural state would not approve? I have 4C Hair and I felt everything you said at the beginning of this video. I went a very different route and got microlocs. The 8 hour wash days, the detangling, the drying times all began to wear on me and my hair began to suffer 😩 I was natural since 2014 and I was OVER IT! I hope this process gives you some time back and relieves some stress for you.
I’m sooooo happy I loc’d my hair!! That fact that I don’t have to do anything to it besides keeping it clean and moisturized. I’m absolutely in love. So Ladies if you’re tired of figuring out what style to do next, should you stay natural or perm? It’s not growing, no edges. Just loc it SIS. It’ll be the best decision you’ve made 💜
Be careful with locs though. Dry rotting is extremely common with locs and many who try to undo the locks after 5-6 years will more than likely end up back in TWA phase. A lot of these videos of women undoing locs and having long lovely hair is RARE! Most of the time, it will break down to the roots or 2-3 inches from the roots.
Loced my hair for five years just cut it in January. I hated it. I loved not having to do much with it but it was limiting and accumulated lint like nobody's business no matter what I did. I missed the look but I think it's just my hair texture that posed an issue.
I've had better results on my daughters hair by using an oil to protect the hair from over-processing. She has been tex-laxed before. So, to protect her curl pattern we put olive on all of her hair (root to tip). We try to ONLY put the relaxer on her unprocessed hair. We don't want the relaxer to process any part of the previously tex-laxed hair. We keep it on only about 2-5 mins after application. Usually works pretty well. She's super happy with her relaxed curl pattern.
"I am tired." I felt that in my soul. I'm 3c/4a and I'm over having to do my hair daily. I just want to hop up and do a bun or ponytail. Thank you for showing this alternative because I am seriously contemplating a G.I. Jane cut or relaxer. This texlax might give me something to work with.
Do you sis! Results looks good. I used to texlax my hair for years before I transitioned to natural. And my hair was healthy thick and flourishing. I grew it out to almost waist length. I transitioned to natural because the maintenance was too high. Caring for my hair in it's natural state is easier for me.
I positively love this!!! Your hair is a whole mood!!! I learned a few things!! I've never done this to my hair, but I may try it one day! Overflow of blessings upon you, your family, and your brand continually💜☦🕊🥰💖
I'm not a fan of relaxers because of my own experience but 4C is challenging... I can understand why she did it, but the aftermath tho, the dryness n breakage I'm crying 😢😭already girl
I can definitely relate to this video , I had relax hair for over ten years then I transitioned cut it and went back natural, after 4 years of natural hair I relaxed it again , and after about 2 years again I cut it all of, today I've been natural for 7 months . It's definitely a rolacoster ride for me and my hair , I have a love hate relationship with it😂😂.
You are not alone it’s such a struggle! I’ve done the chop Atleast 5 times in the past I’m in my 3rd relaxed state and I’ll be here forever my hair is just too thick and hard to manage
I recently relaxed my hair. I'm finding it much harder to maintain compared to when it was natural. It doesn't retain moisture at all therefore breakage is just on another level. I really would like to see how you find it different and how you maintain your relaxed hair.
Before u go to bed at night wrap your hair u can use either hair pins or the head wrap that will help retain the moisture and don't cream.it yourself best if go to a.professional
I don't blame you one bit. I've been avoiding it for a while, but now I want to try it. I'm tired of getting silk presses and flat iron styles just for it to puff back up in the next few hours🤣🤣🤣. I'm also tired of the single stand knots and breakage, no matter how much I detangle
It turned out fabulously well and you knew exactly how to apply the relevant products carefully, well done! You did what you did. And another thing why are so many people hating In my opinion an excellent technique???? The ending result looked like a sort of wash and go. I wish I lived near you, I’d let you do my hair!!!😊 Again well done, love it!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@achicha It's either risk a burn or pretty much doom your hair to break off. No-Lye relaxers leave calcium deposits along the shaft that cause your hair to become dry and brittle over time, making it almost impossible for many users to accumulate length due to eventual breakage. Personally, I have never had a problem with lye. I use the ORS Lye relaxer for normal hair, and I spike it(mix in) some olive oil and deep conditioner. I then base my scalp, all around my forehead, neck and ears with Vaseline. I also use it to cover my already relaxed ends. Lastly, I keep some neutralizing shampoo close by. I put some of that on my already relaxed ends as well, and dab it on my forehead or wherever it starts to burn, if it does. But adding oil and conditioner to the relaxer as well as basing your scalp and surrounding skin greatly reduces that chance for me. Or you can go to a pro that knows how to keep it from burning you (technically it's not even supposed to touch your scalp).HTH
@@m.jessica8742 Same here, I don't have an issue with the Lye relaxers either. I texlax once a year. I don't put the relaxer too close to my scalp so I never have an issue with burning. I also don't leave it in my hair or rub it in my hair. My whole process takes 12-15 minutes. I only relax my curl pattern a little, making my curls a little elongated. So my hair still looks natural, but it is much easier to manage.
Your hair came out beautiful. I'm glad you decided to do what's best for you and your lifestyle. I was natural for almost a decade (2009-2017) and could no longer deal with spending hours doing my hair so in spring of 2017 I went and got a Japanese smoothing treatment (a Japanese perm left on curly/coily hair for 15 minutes then rinsed and neutralized) and I've never looked back. I still have my curls and coils but my hair is permanently elongated and it takes me mere minutes to detangle, wash, and style my hair as opposed to hours. I regret nothing.
@@Ohemaa I hear you, sometimes we compare ourselves with others, but for 2 years, your hair is thick and very good quality and great length. Ps: I hear you about the one side being longer than the other. My right side is longer and thicker than my left. I had a hair cut in January, to even things out, and my right side is back to being 2 and half inches longer than my left. sigh....
I texlaxed my 3c/4a hair and LOVED IT! I wanted to wear it straight with more ease and that's what it gave. No one had a clue II "wasn't natural" and no one needed to have an opinion- period!
I texlaxed before too but once it came to the new growth- now that’s a challenge to not over straighten at that point. Eventually the hair started breaking and I cut of all the texlaxed ends and went back to 100% natural.
I texturized my hair and I LOVEEEE the results. I still maintained my curls. Putting almond oil in after as well as leave in conditioner and putting my hair in Bantu knots got me right! My only regret was not doing it sooner. I was making my life hard (natural) for nearly a decade 😅
Girl, do you want to do with your hair and don't mind the haters! When you said you had a weird head shape, I had to laugh. My husband is American and every time my head shape is showing and he says something, I say, "hey! Leave my Ghana head alone o" 😂
Imagine, your hair texture is how mines is but only in the middle of my head and around my temple area. The other perimeter is like 3c/4a. I'm so frustrated with the various textures, I started to heat train my hair. I don't care anymore. I'm too old to be fussing with my hair like I'm in grade school..
I have the same thing. Very loose hair at the crown and front, very tight at the perimetre. I just keep my hair stretched because of it (not with heat)

That's why I never believed in joining the black hair community trend and jumping on every bandwagon and following every trend that comes out, because every time they had a different trend and people jumped on the bandwagons the big chop, the wash and go, the rice water, The twist outs, the box braids, the coils, the locs,
Been considering “leaving the natural community” because of the constant pressure, high standards and judgement.. I think imma do this. I’m nervous thought cause my hair is so knotted now (4Z hair), and it’s so hard to detangle and manage. I need relief or imma just be bald forever cause I get so overwhelmed doing my hair and don’t have money to go to a good salon that knows how to treat my natural hair..
High standards? Most of these “natural” hair channels have texturized their hair and there are literally 0 real type 4 channels out here. Sis do what makes you happy and don’t afraid of these people
I'm so tempted! I love the use of olive oil and conditioner to "dilute" the effects of the relaxer. That's a really good shout! Hmmmm, it's great watching it on YOUR hair, but my texture is not as full so that's what's scaring me. Anyway, your results were LOVELY!
Do whatever you want with your hair. I'm natural and I heat stretch my hair. It retains more moisture, doesn't get fairy knots, more manageable, and thus grows long for ME! Take care of your hair per your lifestyle and preference. No explanation should be needed.
I’m thinking about doing the same. I’ve had more breakage and single stranded knots AND split ends while I’ve been natural the past few years than I ever have when my hair was relaxed. I’m tired too 🥲
From a 4c natural to a 4c natural; i feel you gurl! s'bout' time, i grew a pair, and did the same. My hair's about 6 - 10 inches, but i'm unable to grab it in a bun and go. You're sooo brave!!
I’m so over my hair. I don’t know what to do. My hair is fine/ thin. I did the natural thing. Than I went back to the perm. Than back to natural. I’m TIRED
Girl! I feel you. I shaved my head and I like it SO MUCH better this way! When I want hair, I wear a wig. I'm so over hair at this point in my life. I honestly have more important things I want to put my energy into nowadays.
What exactly is the problem with your hair? Is it dry, unmanageable, knotty, or what? There’s solutions to all of it but at the end of the day it’s your choice what you choose to do with your hair
I really like Mizani Butter Blends relaxers. Definitely easier on my tresses than traditional relaxers.i get the regular or mild so it more smoothies than overly straightens.
I love natural hair but I don't have the patience to take care of it. I still relax cuz it's easier for me. Do you and love yourself however you choose to rock your beauty. ❤️👸🏾
After relaxer, ideally you should use the brands neutralizing shampoo it comes with and not just any shampoo cuz its created specifically to stop the chemical from processing. If you used the brands neutralizing shampoo you'd have seen that your shampoo lather would turn pink. You keep using it as many times till the lather turns white - that's how you know the relaxer is no longer on your hair and has been completely neutralized. Then you can go in with your protein treatment then your conditioner. Hopefully this helps next time!

To combat dryness give your hair a hot oil treatment..you can use a medium size cup of olive oil and place it in a bowl of boiled hot water.. let the oil heat up..with gloves on rub it through your hair..put a plastic cap on and sit under a bonnet hair dryer for 30 minutes..or place a clean towel in a clothes dryer let it get hot..let it cool for a minute then while it's still kinda hot wrap it around the plastic cap on your head..when it cool down take it off along with the plastic cap and rinse your hair..let it air dry in the towel..
Psst... Girl to girl--getting a relaxer at the salon is great. You can get different types/brands. Every few years I get the relaxing itch and get a mild relaxer to make my life easier without breaking the bonds of my hair enough to make it pin straight. Everyone's hair is different though!
I’ve been natural for about 5yrs now but what is the difference between a relaxer & a texlaxed? Does the texlax just elongated your pattern? Your hair is gorgeous either way & you don’t have to explain to NO ONE who, what, when, where, & why you do anything with YOURSELF! Oh yeah, I peeped your hubby asking what are you doing 😆🤎
There is no difference in the two. The same chemicals and process is used. With what people call "texlax", you don't leave the product on as long so that there is still some texture is the hair. It can be just as damaging and drying so its very important to pay extra careful attention to moisturizing and strengthening properly via deep conditions and protein treatments.
The texlax or texturizer is achieved by diluting the relaxer or leaving it on for a shorter period of time. That's why she added the olive oil and conditioner to the relaxer. It weakens it and slows down the processing time. The results are loosened texture that is still fairly thick vs the straighter texture you would get from a full strength relaxer.
I used to be relaxed and I went natural about 3 1/2 years ago. I do like my natural hair but I did it because I had ruined my hair with relaxers.. now watching you, I perhaps could have saved it, had I followed the treatment steps that you did and mixing in oils... Girl, I used to slap that stuff in my hair, straight from the box, neutralize and done.. that’s probably why my hair was damaged. I don’t have the need to texturize now, but I am saying this video just in case I do!! Great tips!

I know right, been there done that. There is no in-between. You are either Natural or Relaxer. There is nothing like in-between. Texlaxed dries the hair and the follow-up relaxer makes it even worse. I learned after my 2nd big chop. I'm done with messing with my hair.
😂😂
TIP: Make sure your texlax recipe and processing time is the same each time you do a touch up. If not, you'll end up over time with different textures all over your head which will cause tangles later. Speaking from experience!
Thank you
Yup happened to me also. I'm still clipping out texlaxed hair. I think it will work if you are consistent but I wasn't so back to natural.
You are very right, I had a relaxer and my hair was naturally type 4, after relaxing it many times my hair turned wavy with some areas with little curl. Had to perm my already damaged hair, and now have a big chop
For those complaining about dryness;
When you texlax your hair treat it as relaxed hair. Use relaxed hair products and relaxed hair protocols .
Using natural hair products will work against your hair.
So do your research, take care of you, do what makes you happy and be-you-tiful!

If you are committed to the maintenance then sure go for it. I was texlaxed, but it eventually became a nightmare. I recommend Brazilian Keratin - less permanent damage
@@morenabonita7265 what is Brazilian keratin? Do you have that now?
Girl.... you won't regret doing this.
Follow the ones who’ve been in the game much longer and you’ll see what I’m talking about 👇🏾
The first few months are usually bliss.
Just like with bleach, the first few months post relaxer are usually ok, then you start to see the effects of the damage
Also, I don’t think it has anything to do with them not deep conditioning their hair - these YTers I’m referring to still used to DC, moisturize and seal. I also speak from experience as I’ve relaxed my hair thrice in my life, and didn’t use heat a lot during those times
But once the relaxer process effs up your hair - ie if it’s over processed or maybe the lye doesn’t work well with your hair - there’s no amount of deep conditioning and protein treatments you can do to restore it.
Don't come for me. I clap back. 😂 That whole thing!

So true. See also: the “gina curl” aka Jeri curl being all the rage now
Most go natural for hair length as natural hair grows faster and thicker . Than when it gets to the desired length they use a relaxer or some other type of treatment for longer and fuller loose curl or straight hair .
No one can embrace and represent tighter natural hair better than the ones with that hair texture .
EXACTLY!
@@Ohemaa with the density of your hair, they'd be beautiful. I've had mine for 3 years this June.
But don't you get bored having the same style all the time?

I regret nothing.
wow, you have quite some growth for 2 years.
You think so? I was thinking it wasn’t enough growth
@@Ohemaa I hear you, sometimes we compare ourselves with others, but for 2 years, your hair is thick and very good quality and great length.
Ps: I hear you about the one side being longer than the other. My right side is longer and thicker than my left. I had a hair cut in January, to even things out, and my right side is back to being 2 and half inches longer than my left. sigh....
Your head shape isn’t weird it’s perfectly made 👌🏿
My first thought was how beautifully shaped her face is.
Periodt! 💁🏾♀️
I love the energy🥺❤️
I texlaxed my 3c/4a hair and LOVED IT! I wanted to wear it straight with more ease and that's what it gave. No one had a clue II "wasn't natural" and no one needed to have an opinion- period!
Why though? Did you want a looser curl pattern? 🤔
@@epic7224 Open your eyes and read. “Ease”
I just love your hair! It looks so beautiful! Thick strong and full of life!
Girl, do you want to do with your hair and don't mind the haters! When you said you had a weird head shape, I had to laugh. My husband is American and every time my head shape is showing and he says something, I say, "hey! Leave my Ghana head alone o" 😂
Your hair came out really well. Still thick with a lot of texture. Great job 👍🏾
🤣
My hair is loose all over. 3b/3c/4a hair and have some type 1 and type 2 in there
Your quick 'going to bed' braids are goals!
Girl i am tiredddddd I’m having a mid life crisis over my hair rn. I think it’s time to just loc up cause look.
I love this choice for you , thank you for doing what works for you!
That's why I never believed in joining the black hair community trend and jumping on every bandwagon and following every trend that comes out, because every time they had a different trend and people jumped on the bandwagons the big chop, the wash and go, the rice water, The twist outs, the box braids, the coils, the locs,
Your hair is so healthy!! I recommend tees hair gummies if trying to grow out your hair, they are awesome and vegan. My hair has grown out immensely.
It came out good. Look forward to more of your Texlaxed hair videos. Welcome to Texlaxed world 💕
Me toooooo. It’s exacting.
Can I ask how you heat stretch? Is your hair heat trained. Been thinking of doing this
I’m thinking about doing the same.
@@malikastone excatly. If I didn’t have a big fore head. I would try it.
@@malikastone Exactly I'm thinking about doing the same thing myself.
What exactly is the problem with your hair? Is it dry, unmanageable, knotty, or what? There’s solutions to all of it but at the end of the day it’s your choice what you choose to do with your hair
@@CassieGrey21 what is a solution to that tho. Cuz I really need help with my hair. I’m getting tired of mines.
Your hair was quite long for two years of growth as well as healthy looking. Had you dyed your hair? It has a beautiful rich black colour to it!
LOL the fact that you said I have been natural don't try me had me cracking me up.. Love your hair.
That cute moment when hubby fed you some food ❤
I love your final hair texture, it’s the ease of manageability for me afterwards which is worth it abeg.
My arms are tired just from waiting this! It’s a whole arm day workout! 😩😩😩😂😂😂💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
After detangling, washing, deep conditioning, detangling again, putting in 4 celie braids. I Felt that “ I am tired” in my SOUL!
I feel that "I am tired" in my soul. Im in braids because I too, am tired. I have been wanting to relax my hair for a few months now.
I really like Mizani Butter Blends relaxers. Definitely easier on my tresses than traditional relaxers.i get the regular or mild so it more smoothies than overly straightens.
I used to use the mild affirm relaxers
I actually like the look of your texlaxed hair. It still has a natural look about it and your thickness is still there. Pretty!
Love your Personality.
This video just popped up in my News feed.
I Say to People That Relax They Hair:
Enjoy and do what works for you!
Be Blessed.
I’ve never had a relaxer but I’m fascinated by the technique. It came out beautiful!
I’m always awed and fascinated by grown women who have never had a relaxer 👏 For many little girls getting a relaxer was a right of passage 😢
@@britjj5126 my mom is a real G. Washing and braiding my hair every Sunday and making me wait until I was 13 to decide if I wanted a perm. By that time everyone else’s hair in my glass was brittle and falling out so I decided against it. I keep it mostly braided all summer and alternate between pressing it and twist outs for the rest of the year
@@brittanynorris2313 I have a similar story. Glad I didn't do it. I ♥️ my natural hair.
@@brittanynorris2313 I was 10 when I had mine relaxed and that’s only because all the other girls had one so I pestered my mama about getting one til I wore her down and she let me 😏 Thankfully I never had any horrible experiences with getting them over the years but I did my first big chop 5 yers ago.
Same! My mom relaxed my sister's hair but I think she realized she messed it up and decided not to do mine so I never got a relaxer. But when I was in middle school I got locks and kept them for 5 years. Now, my hair is out and I do protective styles, mini twist ect.
Im 4c as well i understand the struggle. I love what you did to your hair. Im glad you know what you doing. im be too scared all my hair gon be on the floor.
Your hair grows fast I can’t believe it’s been two years already! You have some beautiful hair! 💚💚💚
Do what you want! The same women mad are the same ones who wear wigs and never show their natural hair claiming it’s a protective style knowing deep down inside they are insecure aswell
It is your hair and I appreciate people who do what’s BEST FOR THEM!! 👏🏾👏🏾
The first thing I noticed was your skin, it is glowing! Your hair is so nice and thick. x
Yep! This is 2021. We are doing what works best for our mental health😜 I’m getting a texturizer soon! 💅🏾
You had me at mental health!😅😅😅😅 So true!🤣
I have been on natural hair for 6 years and a 1/2. So, it’s finally time for me to relax it. With your video I felt confidence that it’s going to be done. Thanks 🙏 so very much for sharing and keep looking beautiful 😃
Please measure your products so you can have some consistency and consult with professionals
@@Ohemaa measuring the product I hope to do. Consulting with a professional? I don’t think 💭 it’s going to be possible. Thanks 🙏 for the heads up though - I appreciate it
I’ve never tried tex laxing my hair in its natural state it is 4A. Your hair looks very healthy, thick and shinny.
The has blessed you with beautiful hair. The before and after you Texturized your hair was really good. It was interesting how you added other products to the Relaxer. The results were lovely hair. I have natural hair for ten years now. Many years ago I used Relaxers. Your Channel is helpful.
Girl your gorgeous 😍 I’m not talking about your hair either... it’s the face feathers for me
Nooooo lol. 🙈 lol. Thank you
To combat dryness give your hair a hot oil treatment..you can use a medium size cup of olive oil and place it in a bowl of boiled hot water.. let the oil heat up..with gloves on rub it through your hair..put a plastic cap on and sit under a bonnet hair dryer for 30 minutes..or place a clean towel in a clothes dryer let it get hot..let it cool for a minute then while it's still kinda hot wrap it around the plastic cap on your head..when it cool down take it off along with the plastic cap and rinse your hair..let it air dry in the towel..
Absolutely. I did that with the castor oil I brought from Jamaica
It’s just about manageability, this came out beautifully!!!
Yes it is. And thank you so much
@@kdgrierstudios51 thank you!
Great tips!
