With a clutch third attempt clearance at 4.95m, Anzhelika Sidorova prevailed over Sandi Morris to claim gold in the women's pole vault.
On a quest to secure their first major outdoor titles, Sidorova and Morris were on fire, producing perfect scorecards through 4.90m, a height that only the pair managed to conquer in a competition that will be remembered as the deepest in World Championships history.

So crazy how unpredictable the pole vault is. Suhr had the best jump in the world but only cleared one height (she was sick), Stefanidi went out lower than expected, and Morris was crushing EVERY jump and never even touched the bar until it went up 3". Then something changed and all 3 of her jumps had her not getting deep enough into the pit and not getting close to the height she had with the other jumps. One big jump where she did everything right and Sidirova not only won, but did so with a clearance that would have been good for another 3"-6" higher.

Pole vault is a sport that is a harmonious blending of skill, beauty, elegance, grit, power, passion & caution --- the ability to reach above the crossbar without touching it, stretch and arch the body, and gallantly fall successfully.
What a captivating, mesmerising Sport !

It's kind of interesting that someone named Mondo Duplantis would set the world record in an event where it says Mondo on the bar and you have to 'plant' the pole to vault. It's a bit like Dennis the Dentist.
