I freaked out when I saw the black shire in camp for the first time because he was so beautiful. I hoped that I would be able to ride him and maybe even keep him. I was so happy when I found out that I could keep him. I played the complete Story with him and I never wanted to change my main horse. He was the best. I just feel like he fits perfect to Arthur. I cried so much when he died in the end and when Arthur said "thank you"...
I'm on my second playthrough now at chapter 4 and I still kept him. I love it that I can be sure that it’s the exact same horse as at my first playthrough because you get him from Hosea.
I don't continue with the story (I will one day but I’m not ready yet...), I just spent time with Arthur and my Horse Hannibal riding around in this beautiful game.♥️

Had a shire in the main story once, was getting chased by the army, my horse didnt flee even though I told it to, the soldiers kept hitting the horse instead of me, horse died, lost me saddle, Life was bad for the rest of my playthrough.

When I first played the game the only Shire I ever saw was the one Hosea gifts Arthur. Because of this I always assumed the Horse’s name was Shire. I decided not to sell him, but to keep him as my main horse because I liked his massive size. I got maximum bonding with him very early on and kept him throughout the main story. He was the best damn horse I could ever ask for. Despite his immense size I was still able to travel fast with him, and I even beat Dutch during the race in the Chapter III mission where you, “confiscate,” the moonshine. I truly cannot remember a time I ever crashed, or ran into a tree, or anything of the matter with him. His handling for me was really never a problem, and he never once bucked me off. I was devastated to see him shot down and killed in the final mission you play as Arthur. I had been through the whole game with this horse and to see Arthur comfort him as he passed on into a better place brought tears to my eyes. It was only after I had completed the epilogue that I found out that Shire was a type of breed of horse. I figured this out while free roaming through Valentine in a random online lobby. It was there I found another horse suspiciously named Shire with a completely different coat than the one I knew. I pieced the puzzle together and realized I had never, “really,” named my most faithful companion. However I didn’t really feel guilty because I had never seen another horse like him until that moment. To me his name really was Shire, and when briefly stopping at the stables during Hosea’s hunting mission in Chapter II I didn’t change his name because I truly liked it. It wasn’t like I didn’t know I could, I just thought it fit him. Two or so months later I started a new story and wanted to keep it fresh so I didn’t use Shire, but instead bought a thoroughbred and named her Boadigaia in honor of Arthur’s deceased horse he owned prior to the events of Red Dead Redemption II, Boadicea, that he mentions in a conversation with Hosea during the hunting mission. She was a good, loyal horse, but boy was she was no Shire. I frequently found myself crashing, falling, and being sent flying due to hitting the smallest obstacles with her, in fact I lost the race against Dutch with her. Though as annoying as it was to fail jumps with and constantly fall off of her, I was still sad to see her die in the final mission.

we got a true rdr2 player right here, keeps the same horse from the start of the game to the very end I constantly went through many horses and it never felt right
I can resonate in this. When I first saw him at Horseshoe Overlook, I was instantly intrigued by his color and size. All I wanted was to keep him as my own and jumped at the chance during the mission with Hosea. Named him Ebony. Also had teary eyes during that final mission :'[ When I started my second play through, I told myself I was going to pick a different steed to accompany me on my journey, but it didn't feel right. I ended up using ole Ebony in the end again haha.

I also find the Raven Black an absolute monster of a horse. At his best, he'll stand over a wounded cougar while I kill it and take a bullet to the face like it's nothing. I am in the habit of using him to trample enemies I can't be bothered using bullets on (O'Driscolls in Valentine know when they have been Shire stomped!) and the handling isn't that bad if you make allowances for it. The thing I keep forgetting is his zero agility. The only thing that scares him seems to be trees and treacherous terrain!

First time I played the story had a hard time thinking whether to keep or sell him, I even searched online on what other people did, ended up keeping him and named him Brutus, a gentle giant.
this is honestly my favorite horse breed, both in game and irl, in game they are really usefull, i rather be slow and fight on ground, and they have big stamina, and let's not forget how beautiful they are

In real life, the shires were used as war horses to help with heavy equipment on soldiers and to carry wagons with other war stuff in it. They are are one of the tallest horses other than the Clydesdale and Belgium draft and it’s rare that they’ll ever jump.

I use the white one online. Called her Aurora. I've had many players deliberately run into me and they always go flying whilst I'm just casually galloping off and they're getting up. ✌️Cheap, sturdy, and definitely worth your 120 dollars if you want a strong horse. Plus they remind me of teddies
I love the shire for a few reasons, one being that it fits for Arthur's size, they don't scare easy, and the raven black is _so_ Georgious. I find the handling easy for me to maneuver, and definitely worth the drawbacks.

the shire and mustang are my favourite breeds. i love themd ear and i personally don't see the heavy handling as a problem. both of the breeds are also aesthetically pleasing
I still have it and he is my main horse, wouldn't change that good boah, for anything in the world! best horse ever! we even finished together 2 of the 3 racing challenges of the game (for the last one I preferred to take my black arabian) but I have to said I don't find his handling that difficult, maybe is because I had get use to it, while with the other horses I do get more trouble! I know it’s lat but I love the mustangs. In epilogue 1 you can get the tiger striped mustang, and it is one of my favorite horses.

Andalusians are good hunting partners and have good health. They don't take a lot of pressure and animals don't spook them as much. I never liked how Mustangs run for some reason, the acceleration feels different
Whenever me and my draft horse passes a wagon being pulled by his breed I always feel bad for the two horses remind him how lucky he is lok
I love and use the raven black shire for my more detailed second plathrough imo it fits arthur like a glove, not only is it gifted to him by Hosea, but it also looks pretty giant and scary while actually also being a gentle horse much like arthurs personality.
Not to mention its an actual tank and powerhouse. Why shoot your enemies if you can just trample them?

This creator doesn't deserve to have such issues. She makes fantastic content, with awesome info, and delivers it in a very professional and entertaining fashion.
I love every single fiber of my Raven Black Shire I named "Midnight". He never lets me down, good health, good stamina, and decent speed and acceleration, thats including saddle upgrades of course. Overall, I believe Shires stand out for their big size and pretty coats, truth is I actually perfer Midnight over the White Arabian that I got during story mode. If I could make any wish, it would be owning and riding Midnight all the time.
My dark bay Shire, Warsaw, is my gentle giant. He’s a little skittish around gunshots, but he’s so easy to handle. I love him and my others horses (story and online)

Im so used to riding these kind of horses when I played the game. The Black Raven Shire is the one I kept though out the entire game. Besides all that, this overview about Shires was amazing! Keep up the great work!

I adore white Shires, have max bonded with 3: The first two were a bit skittish and constantly neighed. Then I found my female Shire "Amara" and holy smokes - She´ll walk up to a gator and stare them down, she´ll tank bullets without flinching and she is fairly quiet. This is what convinced me that there might be some "hidden" horse stats in the game. This shire is braver than any other horse I own, even my cowardly mustang

I hope you one day can do a general overview of what horses can be good for the beginners and what would be a good way of gaining experience with riding different horses as you get the hang of the game. I havent been able to purchase this game yet but it sometimes sounds kind of daunting, and finding these videos of yours has been very relieving. Horses have always been my favorite part of RDR 1, so I'm glad I can get a simple but very comprehensive look on them
The Raven Black is hands down my favorite horse in the game. Tanks a few hits, mean as hell, handles like crap and dumb as rocks but I keep him for as long as I possibly can. I don't know why, I just love big black horses.

fun fact, i havent fully tested it yet but if u do the companion glitch (look up videos!) and you have the raven black shire set as your temporary horse, you can clone it. basically, get one of ur companions to ride ur temporary horse, then whistle so that the shire throws ur companion off and then run off a bit until ur companion summons their own shire, then dismount ur main horse and run back for the horse that ur companion spawned and bond with it, i havent tested taking it back to the stable yet so idk if that works but feel free to have a try

Two years ago I had a few favorite horses. Turkoman, Shire, and Ardennes were my horses. Now I really love them all. Each feel different to use in different situations. I've now found myself playing with my original 3, as well as Mustangs, Thoroughbreds, Fox Trotters, Andalusians and Appaloosas. I really love the horses in this game.
I also NEVER sell the Shire you get from Hosea. Always name em Zeus, from Reel Steel.
I had that raven shire Hosea gave Arthur. Couldn’t bare to part with it, so I had him the whole game, I named him Kieran (not after the O’Driscoll) and he was the best damn BOAH. I still miss him :( He was hard to maneuver at times, but he was the best…
I watched my friend playing RDR and we chose shire as our main horse (the one who Hosea gives us) and named him Little Johnny. And he was the most wonderful and good boy. Would never give up on him.

In Online I ride, Zeus, a male Dark Bay Shire, I love him to pieces, he has never let me down, I know his stats aren’t perfect but idk I am just always so patient with my horses to the point idc about stats, I love this breed, I do wish the Raven Black coat was in online, i prefer that coat over the Dark Bay but I will stick with it.

Arnold Without Torso right?? My best compromise was the Ardennes but although it may have better stats, it doesn’t have the sheer size that the Shire has. It’s a shame because there’s not a black Ardennes either.

I love the shires. I think of the raven black as Arthur's one true horse. Easily my favorite breed in the game. I prefer draft horses for Arthur, and for John, I find I like the taller racing types for him best - the TB and Turkoman.
Honestly same. The big shires kind of match Arthur’s personality I guess. On the way to the stables I felt that it wouldn’t make sense to switch horses. They were both “brutes” in a way

The best part of Shires is how they can be used as battery rams upon initial engagement. Running through 2 or 3 guys before dismounting is an absolute blast

When first saw the Raven black shire in camp I knew it was the horse for me.In mission when Horsea wants you sell him I thought "the fuck I am" after the mission I when named him Brutus and he became my main horse. He never bucked me off once and won race with each racing encounter even beat Dutch in a race with his arabein horse. The greatest horse I ever in a video game. I cry when he was shot down in chapter 6.

That "Grey" shire , is technically white, if it was truly grey it would have a grey nose. The resource I'm using is CHA ( Certified Horsemanship Association ) Lv2 Guide to horsemanship.

I kept the raven black that Hosea gave me and named him rampage, He has a red Mohawk and a red braided tail, He’s the sweetest boy and he’s really brave, By far my favorite horse out of my past 27 or so horses.
When Hosea gave me the raven black shire i absolutely loved it, one time i camped near valentine, my horse ended up in a mountain. Sadly a few minutes later he fell to his demise and I actually cried because he was still alive when he fell but i had to put him down

If you keep that Raven black Shire, and you bring it to the stable, sometimes the stable owner will action make a comment, saying that he doesn't see too many horses like that.
That being said, I actually found it to be a pretty good mount. Its enormous size made it very unique, and in some ways made Arthur stand out a little more.
Though, in my personal opinion, the Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood is by far one of the best horses that is in the game, and in most respects is every bit as good as the Missouri Fox Trotter for example, in regards to its stamina and durability, even though it's not quite as fast.
Maybe is not the fastest or agile horse, but is the truck of this game and i like trucks in any game.
I don't care how atrocious they are to ride, the raven black shire will always be my favorite. Hosea is my favorite character, and i always name the shire Serenity.

I ride one named Monster. Big, black, sturdy beast. They offered me sixty for it, but I turned them down. Now I go into town and everybody says “There’s Monster! Here comes trouble!” I loves me that Monster.

I have a Raven Black shire, I was having a hard time deciding whether I should keep him or not and oh boy I'm glad I did. Shires are excellent for trampling people (May seem odd but it gets the job done) When in doubt or out of bullets I just trample my enemy.
I.... erm, Arthur... used to have a Shire. His name was Monster. Hosea found him for us. He was a big, big horse. Hence his name. Hosea insisted that Monster was nothing but trouble, because he was a rather surly creature, but we saw potential in him. We kept him, made him our main horse. We went everywhere with him. He even had a special saddle made from the skin of a perfect alligator. We loved Monster. I loved Monster. When we got stuck in Guarma, we counted the seconds till we could see him again, worrying that we might never see him. But when when we were finally reunited, I cheered. Monster always had Arthur’s back, and Arthur always had his.
I um... I don’t have him anymore. They’re both gone. I miss them both every time I play. But I’m hoping my new horse Beast will soon grow on me the same way Monster did. Monster will always be in my heart. Always.
Maybe an uncommon opinion but I love the Heavy Handling of the Shires. my eyesight aint that good so their slower speed helps me shoot better whilst mounted.
Not to mention that Shire from Hosea is sexy AF

I wonder why Rockstar made two Ardennes coats with much different stats, on the other hand they made shire breed only two coats with same stats, I just wish that they put the black raven shire in online with better stats cause they look tough horse but with bad stats, just bring the black raven shire in online and increase the speed at least 1 also the acceleration and make them max health with max bonding. I hope you see this Rockstar. gosh am in love with this breed but totally disappointed with stats as they look ;(

I named my Raven Black as Силач, whis is Russian for "Strong one". And hell, that is the best horse in the game. Not only it's big, but loyal and calm. I love it.
So just finished my first play through of Red Dead Redemption 2. I sadly lost Tennessee Walker and had to get a new horse which I named Trixie. Well Trixie a little too small for Arthur in my opinion so when I stole the cart with Sean I decided to change my horse to The dark Shire. That horse was my best friend during the entire game. She was big and clumsy but by god I loved that horse.
I had a wonderful shire named Cherokee (dark bay) and we had easily 20 hours of game time together, but after one unruly run in with the odriscols where I happened to die, I guess he was shot too. He never respawned with me. Broke my heart, I planned on taking him to the end with me
In a couple play throughs ago I did the BlackShire his name was Hercule named after Videl’s dad from DBZ. I thought it was fitting. An now I’m playing another play through with a WhiteShire horse his name is Paladin an right now I just adore him. I can’t seem to stop using him.

Shires are by far my favourite horses in-game. If you know how to handle them right then the heavy handling won’t even be noticed. They’re great to run over enemies in battles in order to spare an extra bullet or time. They may be a bit slow, so I wouldn’t recommend any races or so with this breed, but the shire is a true legend in battle. There are other breeds that are better in battle ofc, like the andalusian, but if you want to look real scary then shires are perfect for you.
I love my white/grey Shire mare Flo. I had a white stallion named Lard and I regretted selling him so I got Flo.

Like...Shire are the largest horses in the world, not just the game
I believe the Raven Black Shire is the true main horse of Arthur like the other gang to have horses rare coats, you won't find any other raven shire in the game after you sold it. Plus it fits to the gang as there are no other gang members to have shire horse as their main horse and the only horse that is connected to the story in dialougues especially he's from Hosea. So if you want to keep the horse for yourself is you need first to earn money to be able to buy other horse and stable it (on the mission)... Fastest way to earn money is head to Limpany (the burned small town near Horseshoe overlook), head to the sheriff's there, look for a loot box with Gold bar, head to Fences in Rhodes then sell it and eazy money.
You can still find the black horse it’s just really hard to find I’ve saw it abt 2 times
I know it's weird, but I actually prefer Heavy handling as oppose to Race, Elite, and Standard. I dunno, something about being in back covering my buddies, taking wide turns to get a better shot, it just makes me feel safe and a valued part of the gang. I learned quick how to maneuver forests with Heavy handling, so much so that it's a chore with anything else.
Also, I'm 5'1" irl, I LOVE feeling taller than everyone else 😈
Just hope they'll improve the Shire stats a little bit.....

But I acquired a bay shire in the strangest of ways. The game encountered a glitch and I witnessed as a wagon with a shire connected to it went up and down into the air vertically, flinging the horse about. It ended up disconnecting the horse from its cart and its driver up and vanished, so hey, free horse. :D
I used the raven black shire the whole game when I played it for the first time and bloody thing made me cry when it died at the end along with Arthur. Shire was a literal tank the whole game.
