Thanks for posting this. I was having a similar problem with my side brush. As for the the extra piece you found (if you still have it), its the cover for the mini-usb port used to update the software. The port can be found just to the left of the master on/off switch (ie the bright red piece on the main board between the side brush motor and the vacuum in take.
People complain about the 0008 battery error. For this a very simple worked for me. I short circuited the +- and it started charging normally again. Thank me later.
