Which is the best way to deal with a situation like this. I don't mind puppeteers and ventriloquists who bring their alter egos out on interview and panel shows; it's their schtick, and they need to promote themselves and make a living. But when they take over and create chaos and/or make downright nasty and hurtful comments, they should not be tolerated. When you cross the line between entertainment and causing damage, you need to be put in your place.

I remember Rod Hull and his Emu puppet when they were regulars on the Hudson Brothers' TV variety show, and on their Saturday morning kids' show.
Their routines were basically the same. On the variety show, someone would say something that would make the Emu angry, and the bird would start biting the offender.
On the kids' show, Emu would just be rather mischievous with his puppeteer. In one routine, for example, Rod Hull would paint a picture of Emu, then tell him to "Paint me." But, instead of painting a picture of Hull on a canvas, Emu would take the paintbrush in his mouth and start painting all over Hull's face.

It's interesting how you never see hosts sitting between their guests on chat shows, and if you think about it, it makes perfect sense that they don't. I never really understood why Russell Harty never actually understood that. Maybe he thought he was hosting a political show or a game show, where the host does sit in the middle of the guests. Anyway, even though Grace Jones wasn't in the best frame of mind to begin with, she still had a damn good point, Harty definitely had her back to her and during the course of the interview he manoeuvred himself to shut her out, presumably because he didn't want to deal with her.
