I would've liked to see a crossover of Resident Evil with Underworld instead. Milla Jovovich as Alice versus Kate Beckinsale as Selene. Then they join forces to fight against zombies and mutant monsters created by the T-Virus from the Umbrella Corporation, and vampire death dealers and werewolf Lycans. With normal humans armed with advanced technology and weaponry caught in the middle. They could even have Lily Mo Sheen as Selene and Michael's mutant crossbreed daughter, and Ever Gabo Anderson as Alice's artificially enhanced clone.

Resident Evil is a pretty good movie I know some may disagree because it’s nothing like the video games but I like it because Iplayed the games and that’s okay you don’t need to play the games to understand everything I mean the opening literally tells you everything you need to know about the umbrella corporation and how there secretly experimenting on animals.
If you don’t know the games, the movie is about average- nothing special, some cheesy/ cringe moments- but fails as a resident evil adaptation.

I thought the series was a lot of fun. I do wish there was better continuity between films, but still fun.

I hope you enjoyed the first film (I don't know if you knew it, but the Latin girl who transforms towards the end is the legendary Michelle Rodriguez, Vin Diesel's girlfriend in the Fast And Furious films; perhaps also you didn't know that the soundtrack of this film was composed/chosen by Marilyn Manson and perhaps you didn't know that the director and Milla Jovovich met in this film, got married and had children, whose eldest daughter is the AI of Umbrella Corporation's computer in the sixth and last film with Milla Jovovich).
I also like all the others (and also the two from the other survival horror series famous in videogames called Silent Hill), but above all the second and fourth of this series.
The character of Alice (Milla Jovovich) is one of the few of this series who does not appear in the video game series and was created exclusively for the films by the writer and director of the first film (Milla's husband).
The plots of the first 6 films are separate (some more and some less) compared to those of the video games. If you want something more similar, you have to see the last film of the series ("Welcome To Raccoon City"), where one of the protagonists is the same actress who played Ghost in the second Ant-Man film in the MCU ("Ant-Man and the Wasp"). This film is very similar to the second chapter of the video games, but it is not the best in terms of pace and acting skills. You can see it, but without high expectations.

Love Milla Jovovich. I'll watch anything she's in. Beautiful, tremendous actress, kick-ass, great range. "The 5th Element" "Return to the Blue Lagoon" "The Messenger" "Ultraviolet" The whole "Resident Evil" film franchise, of course, and many others.
Michelle Rodriguez is fantastic, as well! I liked her is the recent D&D film, Avatar, etc.
I also like Colin Salmon's character- he's the one that gets sliced through the eyeball into laser mincemeat. Too bad he went so soon; he was a cool character. But he did go in a cool way!
And the elevator-decapitation! Your reaction was what I expected; gets me every time! That actress- Indra Ove- was also in "The 5th Element!"

zombies are't what is scary about resident evil ,but the vile experiments of Umbrella and others . The lore of the games is amazing ,detailed and deeply disturbing . The las plagas parasite ,the G-virus and The mold . These zombies are the basic T-virus ones which aren't top tier ,but gosh Uroboros is ugly and the G-virus .

A strange WTF?The elevator scene at the beginning,which showed the woman trapped and she appeared to be decapitated...Well,years ago,something like that did happen in Houston,Texas and it was horrific.A doctor was trapped because of an elevator malfunction and beheaded.The nurses and other people saw it and they were SCREAMING and SHOCKED!

Oooh good movie! Anything with Milla Jovovich gets my vote, she's such a badass. You should absolutely watch The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, Milla is fantastic in it! It's directed by the same guy that did The Fifth Element. Ellie, I love your Roxy shirt, I haven't seen that brand in ages. Michelle, you are so gorgeous, I have such a girl crush on you.
I watched that tv miniseries about Joan of Arc back in the 90s. I never saw the Jovovich one. I might have to check it out.

Hi girls, I recommend you watch the Resident Evil CGI films! Believe me they are faithful to the game and are even better as a story!
I played Resident Evil 2 that a roommate of mine in college brought and I would play it a night after homework/studying and one night (after a few days of playing) I was running down a hallway I had run down many times there was a big boom from the game and hands came through a window and it actually scared the hell out of me. First and only time a video game scared me, now I expect that kind of thing to happen...
Also, those monsters with the long tongues are known (very creatively) as "Lickers".

I like the movies more than I like the games. A couple of things about the games annoyed me to the point I rarely want to play them. The awkward controls for the earlier games and the BS BS BS undying enemies. Other than that good games.
But the movies, yes the movies I can enjoy at any time. The first one is my favorite, but they are all fun to watch.
Unless you have a stick up your back about how they are not totally faithful to the games. Which I do get as a thing to not like, but relax already!

I know this movie caught a lot of flak for not being faithful to the games, but I don't care. In fact I'm glad it strayed away. If it tried to be a near perfect adaptation, there would be nothing surprising about it as someone familiar with the games would know exactly what is going to happen, and where is the pleasure of watching the movie then...? Plus, it would feel like watching a 90 minute long compilation of cutscenes.
I do suggest continuing with the rest of the franchise, but also watch the 3D CGI movies:
"Degeneration" 2008
"Damnation" 2012
"Vendetta" 2017
...and apparently there's two new ones I didn't know about:
"Infinite Darkness" 2021
"Death Island" 2023
Perhaps my opinion is biased and erroneous - but I believe that the series of films "Resident Evil" survived thanks to Milla Jovovich. She literally dragged the entire franchise. (And in general, she's awesomeness, yes. Yes, I'm a fan, and I'm not ashamed 😄) Ladies, I sincerely hope that further viewing of the series of films will bring you your share of pleasure. It's just not worth digging too "deep" into them, and looking for some kind of "psychology". Just enjoy 😉
Despite the fact that the series itself, according to the plot and the general mood, is full of hopelessness after all. Even if the movie ends conditionally "well" - at the beginning of the next movie it turns out that there is no such thing)) And the reviews for each subsequent film, ahem, let's just say, are more ambiguous and ambiguous) However, each of them is definitely worth attention. By the way, the last film of the series really completed quite well, "looped" the whole plot.
I would say this - these films are scolded (after part 3, at least) mainly by those people who continued to take everything that was happening seriously. Just like a psychological horror movie, with scientific justification, etc., etc. I just want to ask such people - Are you guys serious...? 😆

I love Resident Evil. Most series may fill with gross and uncomfortable things but I adore adventures, survival, environmental landscapes and pretty ladies. The kind of love I like to follow my sharing imaginations.

I dont understand the hatred for this movie. It's a competently made action horror film. It's not unlikable B-movie s**t like DOOM.
The game was amazing and revolutionary for the time and genuinely creepy and scary. Now the games are action with some horror, and these movies too focused more on the action element. I liked this movie and the 4th one, but Im hoping someone would make an actual scary movie of this.

I was working a night shift job back then, and used to play RE2 in the post-midnight hours with all the lights off. So much fun, so much tension. And the distant moans of the damned in the background... Perfect!

The thing with every Zombie Movie is the fact no one shoots for the head. I mean, if you shoot someone in the knee and they are still coming the next shot is in the head and no where else. For most things are not moving after you shoot them in the head. If they are then it is the strategy of running at that point. For standing still is a death sentence in a zombie movie. Well, I would go on with stategies in Zombie Movies. But in real life we all be F'ed.

The Resident Evil movie that is based on the game is an animation type movie or there are several on Netflix, in this movie it is very different from the game 💯
That ending scene is basically the opening scene from the second game. For the time it was a really amazing game.
Milla would be happy that you pronounced her name right (yo-vo-vitch not jo-vo-vitch). There's a whole bit about it in the wonderfully entertaining commentary track on the DVD with Milla and Michelle Rodriguez. I definitely recommend it, the two of them just have so much fun with it.
@j.garcia6206 It basically does, once you get past all of the initial cutscenes. The city's been overrun, wrecked and abandoned vehicles are everywhere, and you're plunked down in the middle of the street.
