    The HF professional is one of my favorite guns. Nice build quality, sprays very fine, and can lay the material down however you want it med or wet. Its got a huge fan for a budget gun even if you dial it back. I normally close it 3/4 of a turn from full open just before the pressure regulator shows an increase in psi. This helps the material atomize and clean up the pattern. Even at 3/4 closed the fan is still 10-12in! I set the fluid knob at 2.5 to 3.5 turns out from closed depending on the fluid and how its laying out. It takes alot of pressure to get it to do its thing. 35-45psi plus! Around 35-40psi for base and 40-50psi for clear depending how thick it is. Any less and the material just doesnt come out right. Its not an HVLP even tho its marketed as one. I think the placement of the air holes around the nozzle, the small orfice size of them, and the high pressure needed to draw the material out is what makes this gun spray so fine and helps the atomization. Ive sparayed very slick clear coats with it. Ive also sprayed metallics and pearls and it does really good with them. For the price its hard to beat if you know how to use it. Cheers

      @@spkendrick No, it is not the same. If you look at the nozzle on the $30 gun, it's similar to the professional gun, with lots more holes than the cheaper model, to provide better atomizing. That's why the specs on the $30 gun call for 12 CFM, while the cheaper gun calls for 6 CFM.

    This was pretty good.
    But if you really want buy the two gun (detail and regular gun kit) It has a standard purple tool cleaning and 1.8 tip 1.2 tip and 1.4 tip.
    This kit with another purple gun covers everything.
    I use the 1.8 tip for primer and the 1.4 for clear,base and single stage.
    The cleaning is a must I never even thought of using an allen that was good.
    First thing though through out the filter. it stinks especially for metallics just dont use it .

      that comment was mentioning the nozzle which is the air cap. I am talking about the needle tip. Your demonstration lacks this because of your lack of knowledge. people need to know in order to not damage their guns. not pulling the trigger on the air cap is not dangerous as much as unscrewing a tip while the needle is still in place, completely different situations, and it has not been mentioned a hundred times

      Don't fault yourself Antonio, I've heard of these guns doing that a lot. I suspect it has something to do with atomization. Not real sure. But, for the most part, you did your part well. I have a slightly higher production requirement than I think you do, so taking the added time to rub it out wouldn't be real cost effective.

      soulless one actually you will see a difference in a nicer gun. Maybe not enough for using it only a few times but you will have less waste with modern guns and better fan pattern resulting in the paint to lay better.

    • @1982MCI
      @1982MCI 6 лет назад

      Your kinda right soulless one but if you had a good gun and you have the ability to lay the paint down to look fairly good with the harbor freight gun then you would see a big difference in n the atomization of the paint which results in how the paint will lay and flow, you will see better coverage, you will lose less material to overspray, etc.
      With that being said, I think your absolutely correct in that it's more in the skill of the painter than it is all gun. A good painter can use any bad gun a d still get a good looking paint job but you can give anyone with no painting skills, or bad skills, and give them the top of the line $2,000 gun and my paint job with the $20 gun will look and feel 200% better!!! Painting is an art! The quality of the tools do make a big difference overall but you've either got the talent to do it or not.
      I sprayed a 36' long food truck 2 years ago for my wife's nephew. It's a big, big truck !! I painted that truck 2 different times 2 years ago and you cant tell it was done sitting outside my barn in n the dr in veway instead of in a paint booth. I did a two tone, base coat clear coat with a super large prismatic flake on top of the color and under the clear. That truck is bad ass man and it was all done using 3 harbor freight purple guns!!
      Keep spraying buddy! It sounds like you have the skills you need to make pa im n flow good brother

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 4 года назад

      This is mostly the case, I'm sure there are duds out there, but for the most part you get a properly functioning paint gun in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing and they can take that $10 gun and do professional work with it and you'd never know what gun they used. Put a $500+ paint gun in the hands of someone who has no idea and they'll still mess up LOL.

      @abrotherinchrist 5 лет назад +1

      Yep, that's why I didn't buy it. I WANTED it but I would have to spend $800 on a compressor that I couldn't possibly move myself. Not gonna happen. Same reason why I didn't buy a Devilbiss or Sata. I'm trying to save money. When it comes down to it I'm looking for the "point of diminishing returns." If I can get 80% of what I'd consider awesome for 25% of what the pros are telling me to spend then I'll be happy. Anything above that is unnecessary luxury spending IMO. I could probably buy a $400 Devilbiss but others are saying they don't even like theirs. From my research it's either Sata for $1000 and an $800 compressor or the HF purple with a $200 compressor. $210 vs. $1800. I was quoted 4k by a paint shop to paint my car. If I bought pro gear and paints it would cost me about $3000 AND I'd still have to do all the work. DIY should cost about 1/4 of the pro price IMO. I wound up spending $1200 on everything I need to get the job done.

    The cheaper one you show here is not the same gun, and I had to return it as unusable. The $28 version works pretty good but I'd like to hear it compared to the (currently) $69 'professional' gun here before I buy the 'better' gun.
    PS the little 'in gun' filter isn't really needed since if you paint proper you'll be filtering in to the cup anyway.

    Ugh... you should ALWAYS pull the trigger when removing or installing the nozzle. The way you did it will damage the needle tip since it wasn't retracted. Strain your paint as you pour it into the cup, and throw those cup filters in the trash.

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  6 лет назад +2

      definitely get rid of the little filter and just strain the paint. Make sure the paint is mixed properly to the correct viscosity. Also make sure you are getting the recommended pressure at the gun. You might need to turn it up if you are measuring it at the compressor. I just showed the filter for people that use it but I have never used it and just strain the paint.

    Yes there is something wrong with the gun, the question is what ??? Like I said in an earlier post with the valve closed there is no air escaping an pulling the trigger there still is no air. Opening the valve to any degree sends a continuous rush of air through the air cap. This gun has never been abused in any fashion and the last time I used it several months ago it worked as expected. Looking at the parts diagram I do not see that any parts are missing or unaccounted for. This mystery can be solved but how ??

    • @TonyHob
      @TonyHob  6 лет назад

      Try lubricating the needle so that it slides freely. It could be getting stuck open. Also disassemble and clean the trigger mechanism. It's the only moving part that shuts off the air.

    CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE CONFIRM A DETAIL ABOUT THE PURPLE HVLP: In moving, I think I lost a part to my purple HVLP gun. I swear it had a thin fiber (or perhaps plastic?) gasket that sat between the cap and the nozzle body. My cap no longer seems to fit and I am 99% sure I had a gasket under the cap at one time! However - looking at all these videos here on RUclips, I never see one when they dismantle the gun. Can somebody please confirm? And if so - what is the thickness of that gasket? Could somebody measure it?

      I use the Harbor Freight 29 Gallon Belt Drive Air Compressor, it does just fine, contrary to what everyone claims, the smaller compressors will work fine, don't try it with the little 3 or 5 gallon compressors but the larger ones will do just fine, of course the compressor is going to cycle during operation, they all do even the $1,000+ compressors will. Its not like you are going to be on the trigger for several minutes at a time, it'll be sporadic on and off cycles as you paint. Sure if you are painting professionally you'll of course have the high dollar equipment but for a home DIYer your regular 15 gallon and larger compressors will work fine. Hell my 40+ year old Montgomery Wards air compressor with a 1HP motor and a 11 gallon tank painted a whole house just fine, the compressor did ok, the trouble was the motor would overheat after about an hour and trip the thermal switch....today's larger output compressors will handle these paint guns just fine.

    • @wildbill23c

      House paint is thick, and by the time you thin it down enough to spray it may cause problems. Only thing is if you can get different spray tips it may work that way I've never tried it, I have a Graco airless sprayer for house paint, expensive but it works extremely well, did my whole house in about 1/2 a day with it, never had a clog, didn't have to do anything to the paint, just stir it up good, put the bucket under the suction line prime the sprayer and get to spraying.

    With the $9.99 coupon the purple gun is cheap enough I just throw it away after a few uses when it starts acting up because the silicone they use starts to fall apart after cleaning it with solvent. It works almost as great as the Satas I have, until I tear it apart to clean it for the first time then it starts spraying slightly worse each additional time i use it. The gun is great if you are only going to paint one car in your lifetime. With the coupon you can buy 5 of the purple ones for the price of the high end one and the best part is you don't need to go through the hassle of cleaning the gun you just trow it away when you are done.

    Warning about the CP 68843. You will NOT get the brass spacer off since they threadlocked it in (see reviews on harbor freight). So you cannot fully disassemble it. It's a left-hand thread and 10mm allen. I exchanged one for a new one in hopes to get one to break loose but no luck. Its too bad because i believe it sprays good as everyone says...but if you ever want to fully break it down, you're screwed.

    I would avoid ever removing the fluid tip without first removing the needle. You are actually scraping the sealing area of the needle against the tip sealing area when you do this. yeah most cheap guns come full of that crap... only good way to get it off is so scrape it.

I guess they always thought they were magnetic until you set 'em straight! Heeheehaha! Dang! I used to use magnets for all kinds of stainless stuff, now it doesn't work anymore! hee hee! But seriously, you have a point- the stainless DOES last longer because it's harder. Ordinary iron + nickel makes what is called stainless. Amount of nickel added varies widely, add enough and you get EXTREMELY hard metal that is weakly magnetic.

      Antonio Rosa teflon tape is such a poor product for so many reasons BUT as you found it is more than adequate in most situations AND solves all the negatives you get with a compound. I'm actually totally confused as to why any manufacturer would put a spray gun together at the factory with any kind of compound!
      Really appreciate your video on this gun.
      Yours has metal internal parts; I bought this gun after watching yours and several other vids on the purple gun. Mine came with a plastic 1.4 spray tip and another plastic internal part under the air cap. This surprised and disappointed me!
      My primary reason for buying the gun was the CFM rating is close enough to my 21gal/2.5hp compressor's output rating if I planned my coverage area carefully, whereas the "pro" model wants a much better compressor. The cheap purple one one reviewed so well so many places I figured it would be an appropriate compromise.
      I may go to HF and disassemble another purple one to examine whether the tip is plastic or not..

Don't plan on making a living with this gun you will have overspray all over the place from the high pressure it needs to lay a coat and that paint flying all over the place is money wasted.
