Really kool interview and overview. I have the Atem Mini Pro and love it. The wait period to get mines was very brutal but once it came in, it became the brains of my setup in no time. I use it everyday.
Nice interview! I definitely fall in the category of someone who never knew what a switcher was! I was trying to set up to deliver online drum lessons with 2 cameras, an iPad screen share, audio interface, power and with my 2 port MacBook Pro and it was just an absolute mess. The capture cards wouldn't both fit in my usb hub because they were so bulky and I was having to run OBS, Logic and Zoom which was causeing my laptop to get seriously hot. I found out about the ATEM mini and can literally run everything from there and just use my laptop to make the zoom call for the lesson. So cool, and especially at the price of the basic mini I was able to get involved! Excited for it to finally arrive next week!
So I see that by connecting an SSD to the USB it will record all 4 inputs as a separate file and a "Project file" to edit directly into resolve, Im using Premiere Pro, can I edit these "separately recorded files " in PP, what file format does this unit record to? ( MP4, M2T, Mov)? Thanks. Great video.
Short question. I own a Macbook Pro from 2018. I last connected my DSLR via USB and integrated it into OBS using a software solution. A USB mic is also connected to the Macbook Pro. When streaming, the Macbook Pro box has already reached its limits and the CPU load ensures that you can actually no longer use the computer to work in a program and stream a video tutorial, for example. The ATEM Mini Pro with built-in encoder could solve this problem for me. In any case, I understand it that way, when I connect all the hardware mentioned to the ATEM Mini Pro and also connect my Macbook Pro to the ATEM via HDMI, that I can stream directly from the ATEM Mini Pro and the entire CPU performance would no longer come to fruition yes the ATEM is working. How does it all work when I connect all my hardware to the ATEM Mini Pro and connect it to my Macbook Pro via USB-C and then stream from my Macbook Pro via OBS (source is then ATEM video and audio). Is the CPU utilization of my Macbook Pro even smaller than when I use the first scenario without ATEM? Have you been able to gain experience on this?
Thanks for putting this out. I'd love to see the video broken up into youtube video chapters so I can jump to, to get the specific info I want. It'd help alot for keeping me here and making it useful.
We actually used Zoom but also set up a Sony camera to record ourselves and had Bob send us his recording from the ATEM Mini ISO. We pieced everything together in post.
Technically, yes. If you have the ATEM Mini and an external recorder, then you could record the HDMI out from the ATEM Mini. However, the ATEM Mini Pro has recording features built in and will require much less hardware and the process will be more streamlined.
Really good information. The only thing that wasn’t really clear is how long could an hdmi cable be when connected to the ATEM without any lag or similar issues? I ask because I would like to setup three cameras with various distances from the switcher.
Our church is ready to add multiple cameras and we are looking at BM mine ISO! Question, what is the next step up from the mini and will it do every thing the mini can? So we could have more inputs. Thank You PW
Out of curiosity, why did the word "program" show up at the bottom? Is that user error or a function of the device? This seems like a game-changer for this new virtual world we are in!
Hi Nicholas, Bob actually was showing us the multi-view option in this recording as shown at 6:30. We decided to zoom in on the top left-hand view so you could see Bob better and not the multi-view the entire time. The "Program" isn't displayed normally which you can see in the beginning up to 4:23. Hope that makes more sense.
Great stuff! Thank you for doing this. I do have a question... maybe very basic, but wanted to confirm. Can I share my iPad Pro (latest model) screen through one of the HDMI inputs? I’m assuming it will downshift the resolution to 1080p which is totally fine. I have a USB-C hub that I can output the screen to a TV screen via HDMI cable.
Our side was a Zoom recording because we did not need to be switching camera angles but Bob from Black Magic was demonstrating the use of different camera angles with his ATEM Mini Pro ISO in conjunction with Zoom. If you want a basic recording you can take it from Zoom or you can get a higher quality recording via the ATEM Mini Pro.

You can stream direct using the Ethernet out to one service, and use the USB connection as a webcam and stream via a computer to a different service. "Not exactly streaming by itself to two services but it can be done using the computer that will also control the Mini." You can also use 3rd party software like OBS and restream, to sync and simulcast your live stream broadcasts from your ATEM Mini Feeds.

ISO is NOT ISO! Please help us as a community. The ISO recordings are only Video ISOs!! The audio is totally corrupted, as all ISO recordings have Program mixed audio tracks. What you have to do is go into the Audio ISO folder to find the, let's say CAM 3 audio. You could use the usb port to record and use the hdmi output into a capture card for Zoom/Skype. You can get a cheap hdmi -> usb card on amazon for $20 or elgato sells a premium card for like $160. The $20 one would be fine for video conferencing. If you're gaming, you might want the elgato.
