I’ll always remember this because my 3rd grade public school teacher both got my school to produced the wizard of oz and also get a field trip to see this performance, and met Mickey Rooney (he signed our playbills!)

Everything about this production was fantastic. I liked some of the re- arrangements of the music, transitions from scenes, the special effects were great, and the acting. Having said that, I thought Mickey Rooney was the weakest link in the show. He literally missed a beat. There were no beats between his phrases they were like one run on sentence and there was no intonation in the dialect. But the rest of the cast was fantastic

this was the final cast of the 1997 national tour that started at Madison Square Garden starring Mickey Rooney and Eartha Kitt, well there was another Dorothy after this one but Joanne Whorley was the final wicked witch.
@@Elphaboy Actually, Jessica Grové ws going to leave the cast, having originated the role, towards the middle of the last tour. They actually even had auditions for her replacement, but in the end she performed the role until the final performance in Portland OR.

I believe I seen that back in 97 or 98 no it had a little bit 98 or 99 cuz 97 was Madison garden cuz I went to the one in the Fox theater and it was phenomenal I love the house it's fun across the audience spinning that was the best wizard of Oz on stage production ever the ones that they have now are just all projection like the tornado is not that great in the new ones at least in this one they have the flying House even though the tornado is still projected they had the house flying in the air and Miss gulch riding her bike in the air it's great... and even has the yellow brick road the one from 2008 at Madison garden sucked big time there was not even a yellow brick road that seemed like a high school production compared to this one being at Madison square garden just my opinion I don't know I'm a Big Oz fan though I have so many stage productions.. I really want that Brazilian one that they have on RUclips but there's no English captions that one is beautiful . I wish someone would add English captions to it and email it to me that would make my day oh my God would that ever that would make me cry it's either Portuguese or Brazilian that had to have been a tour there

It's neat how two famous actors who appeared in Christmas films, Mickey Rooney and Ken Page, have appeared in this production of the WIzard of Oz.
