I did exactly the same thing but it was getting so hard to start on NG, I finally bought the 10,000kw Tri Fuel Champion. It was delivered yesterday, will install it today. Wish me luck. Thank you for making this video, I am amazed all you have done in your predicament. God bless you my friend
@@shanew7361 Sorry, I just saw this, Shane, you probably already bought one, but this powers the entire house. You never use everything in the house at the same time. 30amps works great. I have NG connection in my detached garage.
im looking at that champion tri fuel . is it the 100416 model? im curious, what size is your gas meter and did you have trouble suppling the generator along with any other NG appliances?
@@johngraziano6652 John, I have not had a chance to do it with this unit, but with my other one which was 1000kw less than this Champion. OK, our house is heated by gas, hot water by gas, cloths drier by gas and we have two kitchens with gas stoves. I switched off my house current, switched on my generator which supplies my entire house and started turning on all my NG appliances, one at a time, including our heating system with the thermostat turned to high. I was looking for the generator to start sputtering which it didn't do. During a power outage we will never use all of our appliances at one time. Do you have a part number for the kit you installed? Did you have to replace the carburetor or just install a spacer in front or behind the original carburetor? Thanks in advance. I have the same generator and want to have natural gas as a backup if we cant buy gasoline. Thanks for sharing your setup. Very helpful!

Can you go into some detail about the appliances you used in your house. How you handled the electrical load. Total watts etc. Did yOu plan your electrical load? Or just buy a high output and hope for the best? How did yiu determine start up surge watts on the AC?
I have the exact same generator and the carb is clogged up from the gas I had in it, even with stabilizer. I want to convert to natural gas as well. Do I need to clean the carb out as well or replace it with a new one when I put the natural gas kit on, or is the existing carb no longer used to regulate anything?
I would think you wouldn't have to clean the carb because the natural gas won't be flowing through any of the parts of the carb that may be clogged. The natural gas should just flow freely through the carb in to the engine.
Great review! Does the propane keep flowing if the generator is shut off. I'm interested in putting a tri-fuel kit on my Champion generator to run it on NG, but don't want o risk a problem if, for example, the low oil shutdown turns the generator off overnight and then gas keeps flowing
I'm pretty sure this is the kit I used. You might want to call them and confirm that's the right one for your generator. motorsnorkel.com/product/motorsnorkel/msk3101-motor-snorkel-tri-fuel-natural-gas-propane-and-gasoline-conversion-kit/
Did you need to modify your ac unit with a soft start to run it or do you just open the circuits in sequence to allow for the generator to adjust under load?
My house had a traditional HVAC system that was a four ton system. I also had four mini split systems as well. I never used the regular HVAC system once I installed the mini splits because they were so much more energy efficient to run than my regular HVAC was. That being that, my Champion generator was easily able to run the four mini split systems without breaking a sweat. I know there's no way my generator would have been strong enough to run the four ton HVAC system. I suppose I could have installed some sort of soft start system on the four ton heat pump but I never got in to all that. My mini splits were my main sources of cooling and heating.
No idea what size the hose connection is. I would take your oil drain plug out and take it to a hardware store so they can tell you what size it is. Then go Amazon and do a search for "small engine oil drain hose". You should be able to find one that matches your specific sized plug.
I have the same exact gen coming this week. Which type kit did you buy for it? I will need to buy the same. Also, did you try the NG functionality and how long is the gas supply hose. As far as I know the pressure will drop depending on the length.
@@briand1174 I called US carburation company which has a new website called motorsnorkel.com/ and told them what generator I have. The kit is $187 and you can buy over the phone. No modification on the generator is needed for an application in which you would keep the gasoline functionality. I would call them. They also have hoses so when I buy mine I will just order everything from them.
Looks like home depot sells a tri fuel champion generator already converted now. Last I checked we can't get those conversion kits in CA. Dang that thing seems loud as funk. would be nice to have such a set up on an ultraquiet model.
Technically yes, they can void your warranty on your generator. That doesn’t worry me because the kit is easily removable if and when something were to go wrong with the generator. I can easily bring the generator back to an OEM state which means it’d be impossible for them to know I ever ran the generator on LP.
My "opinion" is that it should NEVER void the warranty since Propane and Natural Gas do not deteriorate. (Go bad/gums up) Your generator will ALWAYS run and MUCH safer to store Propane Bottles than Gasoline cans.

Everyone really needs to watch this video about generator safety ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html please make sure that you use your portable generator carefully. I’m just trying to be nice. Thank you. Hope everyone agrees on this. This advice is very important
@@SAUL-TO-PAUL it takes a pretty big generator to provide enough amperage power to start up central AC units. Most portable generators can’t do that unless they’re in the 15KW range or above. It’s based on the outdoor unit’s LRA rating which stands for load rated amps. It usually takes much more amperage than what most portable generators can provide. No, not even my inverter generator wouldn’t have enough amperage power to start my central AC unit.
I have considered drilling a small hole in the air box, just big enough for the red tube from a can of "cheater spray"/starting fluid, and then keeping a small patch of duct tape over the hole the rest of the time. I expect that once the engine fires a few times, the NG flow will stabilize where it needs to be.
I just added the motor snorkel propane kit to my champion 100520 inverter generator. For the first try I am running it with a 20lb propane tank and a regular bbq regulator and a 2 foot hose. The motor snorkel instructions indicate that if a longer hose is to be used it must be much larger diameter. I see you are using what looks like a RV style quick connector and a fairly long and narrow hose. So a few questions: are you using a standard 1/4-1/2 psi regulator? Is there anything special about it - is it larger than a normal BBQ sized regulator? Is it fixed psi or adjustable? Have you had any problems with running too lean with this setup? I'm asking all these questions because I used a digital tach as recommended to adjust the fuel block but because it's an inverter it appears to only run at 3400 rpm regardless of the fuel block adjustment (within reason). I would like to use a similar setup with RV connectors and the house propane system at 1/2 psi and a 6-10 ft hose but don't want it to run too lean.
My regulator is just a standard regulator that I bought from Amazon. I only use it when I run my inverter generator on a 20lb tank which is pretty rare. I would normally run it from my 100 gallon propane tank that’s in my backyard but that only happens when we have a power outage which thankfully doesn’t happen too often. I normally keep my inverter generator in my garage and I exercise it once a month for 30 minutes. So for that I just run it on non ethanol gasoline. My propane hose is probably 1/2” thick and it’s probably ten feet in length. So far it’s been working just fine.
