The inside of the piston top is HOT. Splash oil slinging out of the rod bearings is what cools it. 👍😎

I know when im due for an oil change just by the color of the oil on the dipstick ! My 94 chevy s10 2.2 on average is about 2,800 miles 125 hrs of use and about every 4 months ! Supertech oil and oil filter ! Works for me !

Nice! That was a great live with Lake. I go 6000mi on my 2016 Dart (2.4L) with Mobil 1 full synthetic. For the older pushrod (and flat tappet) engines I found Mystic works good. I changed those as the oil gets dirty. The whole 10k oil change thing is good if you are going to get rid of your auto around 100k miles (based on industry testing not opinion)

Always and I mean Always use the manufacturers recommended viscosity if you want your engine to live a long life, and change at the intervals that they recommend as well as a high quality filter. It doesn't matter if it's a pushrod engine or ohc. Please, Please, Please change your oil people!!! Coming from a multi-brand mechanic for 31 years 95% of all premature engine failures are because of neglected oil changes or low oil levels. I know what I'm talking about 👍 Thanks Andy for shining a light on this important but overlooked topic!!!

I'd, like to know, Lake Speed jr's input on running zinc with catalytic converters, today. In the beginning catalytic converters were introduced, with flat tappet cams. Zinc was removed, because catalytic converters, were being plugged. Zinc, was removed from the oil. Then flat tappet cams, were wiping out. Zinc, was necessary for flat tappet cams. This, was the time to invent the roller cam and lifters. If, zinc was destroying catalytic converters then. What, keeps it from destroying them now? I, noticed the VR1, you were putting in the 2.3 ecoboost.

I've run rotella t6 in 4 modern cars for a combined mileage of 350,000 miles with 75% of that mileage being on the last 2, oil changes done every 5k and I never had any sort of catalytic converter plugging issues...also helps that your pcv valve functions properly and doesn't suck up and burn the oil and also helps if your turbo seals are actually sealing to prevent any oil seeping into the intake tract

You mentioned you have a Coyote engine, so do I. My question is this, my engine takes 10 quarts of oil, with double the amount of oil that most cars take, do you think I can go past 5K miles to perhaps 7K miles? The recommended weight for the engine is 5W-20 but it seems like 5W-30 would be a better choice for at least the summers here in NC; your thoughts on that.
