  • The swan song for Mike Ditka and Mike Singletary in Chicago comes against a young, star-laden Cowboys squad at Texas Stadium. Having already secured the NFC's No. 2 seed for the playoffs, Dallas is focused upon getting Emmitt Smith another rushing title, while Will Furrer is attempting to quarterback an upset for the visiting Bears.
Pat Summerall and John Madden call the game for CBS. Enjoy!

Attended this game. Sat in the end-zone. Still have the ticket stub. Singletary's swan song, Ditka's last game as Bears HC and Emmitt won the rushing title. Good times.

This is football to me. You don't see it played like this anymore. The game is too spread out and they have removed all physicality and team play. Every play is designed here. THey aren't in the shot gun every play. Aikman didn't even use the shotgun. It was a timing offense. Moose Johnston in the i-form leading Emmitt. Corners actually bump and run etc, etc. Now the game is just spread out and players play their assignments that's it like a video game. Everything is perfectly executed here. There are so many different things going on on every play.

This is the infamous game where the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson feud boiled over for the first time. Jones had a Saudi entourage visiting that day and he took them down to the sideline in the fourth quarter with the score 27-0, introducing them to players and chit-chatting with them. Johnson was furious because Jones had promised him to never interfere with a game that was ongoing, and Jimmy believed the distraction is why they played such a terrible fourth quarter. Afterwards is when Johnson stormed into Jones' office and got up in his face, and the Jimmy/Jerry saga was in full swing from that point forward.

I agree with GOAT Summeral, but NOT "Motor-Mouth Madden". He yelled all the time, overrode Pat, and gave all his opinions like they were the only ones that counted. Commentators disagreeing with the ref's is a pet peeve of mine. Regardless of what they think, the play called is what stands, and all their posturing is just a waste of time.

Oddly this rather uninspiring performance is what finally convinced me we might really be the best team in football already. When you are playing for nothing and play poorly-yet still dominate another team-it’s generally because you are just that talented.

The Cowboys dominated this game and showed they were going to be the team to beat for years to come. For the Bears everything was winding down for that 80's team. Mike Singletary was retiring. Mike Dikta would be gone after the season. The torch was passed because from 85 to 90 the Bears owned the Cowboys whenever they played. It used to be the other way around, but from 85 to 90 the Bears were just too talented on defense. In 91, the Cowboys beat the Bears in the wildcard in a hard fought game where the Bears were still a playoff team. Sadly in 92 for the Bears it all came crashing down.

Yes, the Bills QB Jim Kelly got knocked outta the game in Houston at the astrodome. The Bills lost to the Oilers 27-3, losing the AFC East title. The Bills then hosted the Oilers at Buffalo the following week and were down 35-3 and then came all the way back to beat the Oilers with the Bills having Frank Reich at QB. Bills then beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh and then Miami in Miami in the AFC title game. Miami hasn’t reached the AFC title game since that defeat. The Bills made the Super Bowl vs Dallas, but Jim Kelly was hurt and turning the ball over left and right. Dallas as you know won 52-17. The Dallas Cowboys had a chance to go to four Super Bowls in a row as well, but awkward turnovers and the refs took that away in 1994. The 1992-1995 Dallas Cowboys are one of the greatest teams in the history of the NFL.

This was Curvin Richards last game with Dallas. Jimmy cut him on the Tuesday after game. Curvin thought he was just as good or better than Emmit, and well he had his chance to be at least the backup. Jimmy sends the message to team, no discipline no job. There were expectations, and if you kept hot dogging it you were gone. That is why they won championships. Accountability and consequences. Except for Parcells there has been none of that since. Belichick did what jimmy did in running a team. Only difference is jimmy did not cheat. Feel privileged to have seen that cowboys team win in person during their run.

Dak isn’t fit to carry Aikman’s jockstrap. Aikman was way more accurate, had a much quicker release, a better arm, and could actually throw on time and in rhythm.
In today’s wide open pass happy game, where DBs are hardly allowed to physically cover a WR, where the rules are stringent on where and when you can hit a QB, Aikman would be lethal.
