Such a normal bloke - not 'up himself' at all for a star (which he probably doesn't realise he is). I only got into XTC this Summer and have been delighted by his playing on the albums I've bought, including TC & I.
Colin is the most complete bass player iv'e ever listened to but also so bloody hard to follow at times . Also such a great songwriter! Love the track Scatter Me on TC and I. Looking forward to listening to the rest of it. Do hope he releases an Album? Love him.
If you listen to the entire interview, you'll discover that Mr. Moulding says "you know" a lot. If I could chat with him I'd say "As far as bass playing, songwriting and musicianship in general is concerned, you good sir are one of my absolute favorites, you know."
I could have bet that he sang his bass lines first, that kind of lines are not from someone who follows structures or thinks in thirds, fifths or whatever, it's basically creating a melody keeping in mind that it will be the rhythmic base of the song.
The coin really drops when he says that he first sings bass lines before playing them on the bass. Now we know why his bass lines are often so melodic!
what a great interview! i don't necessarily wanna know the chords either, just the root note is good enough, the rest you can fill in as you like in terms of bass-playin'! there's none better than colin! i bet mccartney s a huge fan of colin's! ,he' s gottabe!

A truly lovely, sweet, down to earth guy and also a total genius at the same time
Enjoyed this interview tremendously! Colin Moulding is a brilliant bassist!

He's a CRACKINGLY solid player, but THE most complete player? REALLLLY?
Fantastic bassist in a brilliant band all individually pulling different directions to make great songs
One of my favourite songwriters, love all his songs.
awesome. Colin is one of my favorite bassists and "one of the millions" is a standout track in his reportoire imo. looking forward to his album.

I was just about to say the same! I think he gave us the keys. Brilliant approach to creating inspiring and melodic bass lines.
Big fan of his playing and songwriting .
Met too...I really miss XTC
Looking forward to buying the EP Colin is doing with Terry Chambers drumming on.....Pity Andy & Dave don't pop in for a wee reunion ?
The first thing I learned on guitar was the main riff from Inna Gadda da Vita by Iron Butterfly.

As far as pop playing is concerned,Colin Moulding was easily on par with Bruce Foxton who is an excellent bassist.Much respect, mate.
That last section from around 3:30 on... whoa! Great stuff!
